PTI UK activist Khawaja Inaam-ul-Haq Nami’s brother, Ikramullah, a resident of Chakswari in Mirpur, has distanced himself from remarks made by his brother regarding officials in Azad Kashmir during the ongoing Joint Action Committee protest. The de facto authorities banned a peaceful protest, carried out politically motivated detentions beforehand, and deployed heavily armed security forces to block roads and prevent citizens from gathering. Security forces then used force against unarmed protesters, resulting in deaths, injuries, and dozens of additional detentions. Such repressive actions by the de facto authorities and their backers will not deter our people from exercising their legitimate and peaceful right to express themselves.

Iran's security forces shot protester Farid Ramezani during nationwide protests in Tehran, then targeted his Pahlavi crown tattoo as he lay wounded before killing him with a shot to the forehead on Jan. 8, a source told Iran International. Ramezani, 29, was shot in the back in Tehran’s Ariashahr neighborhood before security forces shot him in the right hand, where he had a Pahlavi crown tattoo, and then fired the fatal shot into his forehead, according to the source. His family was later asked to pay for the three bullets fired at him before authorities would release his body, the source said. Authorities withheld Ramezani’s body for about two weeks and barred his family from burying him in Tehran. His body was transferred to Hashjin in Khalkhal county, in the northwestern province of Ardabil, where he was buried. Families of other victims later visited his grave and held a ceremony there during Nowruz.

I've lived in Pakistan and seen these so-called 'peaceful' protesters firsthand. Trust me, those of us from Benghazi know a thing or two about the misrepresentation of 'peaceful protests.' Don't fall for the fake news. Even some of our own U.S. congresspeople are out here commenting on these protests without any actual ground truth. Here's a reality check: it's the protesters firing off tear gas. And no, 100 protesters in Islamabad weren’t shot and killed by the Pakistani military either. Just because it’s on the internet, and organizations like Amnesty International parrot it for donation dollars, doesn’t mean it’s true. Reminder that sharing false information only undermines the legitimacy of your own cause.
