Captured in Paris in 1994, Rape Me came during Nirvana’s final year as a live band. The song originally appeared on In Utero in 1993, the group’s deliberately abrasive follow up to Nevermind. Written by Kurt Cobain, it was often misunderstood but intended as a confrontational anti assault statement. Live performances like this stripped the track back to its raw core, with Cobain leaning into its blunt repetition and noisy dynamics, reflecting the band’s rejection of polish and their growing tension with fame near the end of their run.

Written by Kurt Cobain as a statement against abuse and exploitation, the song sparked major controversy on release while becoming one of the band’s most discussed live performances of their final years.

Recorded for the band’s debut album Bleach, “Love Buzz” was released in 1988 as Nirvana’s first single on the Sub Pop label. Written by Dutch band Shocking Blue, the track became an early calling card for Kurt Cobain’s raw vocals and the group’s heavy, sludgy sound before their mainstream breakthrough. Though it did not chart on release, the song later gained cult status as a snapshot of Nirvana’s pre-Nevermind era, capturing the band at their most abrasive and unpolished.

This Canadian rock band originally recorded the song "She's Too Tough," which was written by Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott. Joe Elliott originally demoed the song in 1985 during the writing sessions for Def Leppard's Hysteria album, but it did not make the final cut. He then gave the song to this band, who recorded it for their sixth studio album, Wild in the Streets, released in 1987. Def Leppard eventually released their own version of "She's Too Tough" as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of their 1992 album Adrenalize, and later on their 1993 compilation album Retro Active. 👉🏻 What’s the name of this band?

At Later with Jools Holland in 2000, Oasis perform Gas Panic, taken from their fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, released earlier that year. Although not released as a single, it became a standout album track and a live favourite, known for its darker tone and introspective lyrics reflecting Noel Gallagher’s anxiety during the late 90s. The song showcased a more psychedelic and atmospheric side of the band and later featured in live recordings, documentaries and retrospectives exploring Oasis’s shift in sound at the turn of the decade.

Captured at Pinkpop in 1994, Cannonball documents The Breeders at the height of their mainstream breakthrough. Released in 1993, the song appeared on Last Splash, the band’s second album, and became their biggest hit, reaching the UK Top 40 and dominating alternative radio worldwide. Written by Kim Deal and built around a distinctive bass intro and stop start dynamics, Cannonball helped push Last Splash to multi platinum success. Festival performances like this showed the band translating their off kilter studio sound into a powerful live setting during the peak of their 90s run.

'When The Leeve Breaks', a song originally recorded and written by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929 and it's about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. The song was later covered by the British rock band Led Zeppelin for their 4th studio album, known as Led Zeppelin IV. The band brought a fresh air to the song with their approach, Bonham's drums, Page's heavy-driven electric boxes, John Paul Jones' unique bass lines, and Plant's unmatched vocals. It quickly became a fan favourite song. Then, in 1994, as you may know, Led Zeppelin was already a broke-up band, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant released their live album "No Quarter Unledded". In this live album, they recorded some of the Led Zep songs and When The Leeve Breaks is one of them. The album's songs were recorded in Morocco, Wales and London occured on an MTV project called "Unledded". Robert Plant and Jimmy Page performing "When The Leeve Breaks" from Unledded in 1994.
