BLUNDER! Two local trains on the same track on Central Railway at #Mumbai CSMT. A Central Railway spokesperson confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the matter. A train coming from Badlapur was taken on PF 5 instead of PF 4 which was occupied by another local. The local trains have been backed and now movement is restarting. The PF 5 to 8 were blocked and movement was stopped from 3.18pm Now the backing is complete and the movement is starting. There was a signal between these two local trains. CSMT Internal Home for Suburban Platforms was in red condition hence the Motorman stopped the train. Also the distance between the two trains was more than 130 meters.

Alert Pointsman Mr. Sourabh Kumar Singh (returning to office after attaching banker engine to the train) seen the incident and immediately shown Red signal to Train Manager. Train Manager instantly dropped the pressure and stopped train. Passanger was safely removed from track. Fortunately no major injuries to the passenger & he is safe. JUST IN | A portion of a century-old clock tower building collapsed at Kerala's Kozhikode railway station, breaking apart and causing debris to fall onto Platform 2 and Track 3 on Thursday forenoon. No injuries or casualties have been reported. Although there were people on the platform, a major disaster was narrowly avoided as no one was directly underneath the structure when it gave way. However Railway authorities maintained that this was not an accident, but rather a planned demolition forming part of the ongoing Kozhikode station redevelopment project. An individual was noticed atop the roof of a Badlapur-Dadar AC local at Kalyan station on CR Mumbai, platform no. 7. Railway authorities immediately alerted the concerned Officials and initiated switching off the Over Head Equipment (OHE) at 2:40pm hrs to eliminate any risk of electrocution. Within minutes, the individual was safely brought down to the platform by 2:50pm. Following the successful rescue and a thorough safety check, the OHE was recharged at 2:52pm. The train continued its journey shortly after, with the entire life-saving operation concluding in just 12 minutes. The individual identified as Malka Fidre aged 25 years was handed over to the Government Railway Police for further action.

Western Railway is undertaking a major safety-driven encroachment removal operation at Garib Nagar, Bandra (East), today i.e 19th May 2026, after due legal process extending over several years. The following facts may kindly be noted: 1. The matter is not sudden or arbitrary. Proceedings under the Public Premises Act were initiated before 2017 and eviction orders were passed on 27.11.2017. 2. The issue has undergone extensive judicial scrutiny over nearly nine years, including proceedings before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court and Hon’ble Supreme Court. 3. The latest orders of the Hon’ble Bombay High Court dated 29.04.2026, subsequently upheld in further proceedings as well as before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, have permitted removal of unauthorized encroachments, while protecting identified eligible structures. 4. Western Railway is fully complying with judicial directions. Structures identified for protection through the joint survey process are not being disturbed. 5. The action is being undertaken primarily in the railway safety zone adjacent to active railway tracks, where unauthorized habitation poses serious risks to human life and train operations. 6. This railway area stretch is operationally critical for augmentation of rail capacity in Mumbai. Removal of encroachments is essential for railway safety, operational flexibility and future infrastructure expansion, including additional train services. 7. The proposed works are linked to enhancement of carrying capacity on one of the busiest rail corridors in the country and will facilitate introduction of additional long-distance train services for passengers across India. 8. Railway land cannot remain perpetually encroached, be it anywhere, and more so in safety-sensitive operational areas. At the same time, Railway administration is acting strictly within the framework of law and court directions. 9. The operation is being carried out jointly with civil administration, police authorities and railway security agencies to ensure maintenance of law and order and humane execution of the drive.

A motorbike rider has reportedly been crashed to death by a train, whilst attempting to cross the railway tracks at Avenor. The unfortunate incident occurred around 5:30Pm today, with the victim dying immediately at the scene. Authorities have been contacted as efforts are made to trace any known relatives for identification and collection of the body.

The incident happened on Thursday evening, May 28, and has sparked calls for more British Transport Police officers at Southend Victoria and other stations across Essex. The railway union RMT said the situation was “feral, unpredictable and could have escalated quickly”. The group were seen forcing their way through the station’s ticket barriers, with Greater Anglia staff standing by as they pushed past staff. Security officers employed by Greater Anglia were present, but appeared not to challenge the group, seemingly due to the number of youths involved. The RMT is now raising concerns about the lack of British Transport Police officers available to help protect railway staff and passengers. Kathy Mazur, RMT regional organiser, said the situation was “totally unacceptable” and said there were “no BTP officers in sight”. She said visible patrols can make stations safer, pointing to BTP evening patrols at Kings Cross and St Pancras in autumn 2025, where RMT says staff assaults dropped by 59%, violence by 21%, public-order incidents by 41% and shoplifting by 25%. The BTP said that just after 7pm on Thursday 28 May, officers on duty in Southend had been diverted to an emergency incident at Laindon station, where they arrested a man on suspicion of assault and took witness statements. RMT has also criticised a three-year British Transport Police Authority funding plan approved in December 2025, which the union says could lead to frontline staff reductions in 2028/29. The incident has sparked debate about fare evasion, station safety and the pressure placed on railway staff when large groups gather without police officers immediately present.

The surveillance system has 12 towers fitted with both thermal and normal cameras, installed at strategic locations along the railway track for early detection of animal movement. The sensed data is automatically transferred to the control room set up on the site that processes the data collected from the field on real time basis and alerts loco pilots through calls and SMS. This area has seen several tragic elephant deaths due to collision with trains on these tracks. We are trying our best to prevent these collissions through use of modern technology which can be a big boon in preventing elephant deaths in such areas. The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested 30-year-old Roshan Suvarna on Wednesday, June 24, for allegedly stabbing a co-passenger to death inside a moving first-class compartment of a Mumbai local train. The fatal altercation, which took place late Monday night between Andheri and Borivali stations, began as a dispute over closing the coach door to block out heavy rain. The victim, 22-year-old finance marketing professional Mayank Lohar, was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and chest before the attacker jumped from the slow-moving train at Borivali station and fled. Roshan Suvarna is a 30-year-old airport ground employee who works in the cargo section at the Mumbai International Airport. A resident of the Mira-Bhayandar suburb, Suvarna was a regular commuter on the Western Line network. According to railway police investigators, Suvarna did not have a known prior criminal record matching this profile, but he was carrying a large knife inside his personal bag on the night of the incident. Following the stabbing, CCTV footage captured him calmly walking away from the station platform, prompting authorities to deploy specialised tracking units to locate him. The incident occurred aboard the Churchgate-Nallasopara Fast Local (Train No. 90663). Both Suvarna and Lohar boarded the first-class compartment at Andheri station. As heavy monsoon rain lashed the city and wind blew water into the compartment, an argument broke out between the two men over whether the coach door should be shut or left open. The verbal exchange quickly escalated between Jogeshwari and Malad stations. Investigators state that Suvarna pulled a knife from his bag and repeatedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen and chest. Despite other passengers being present in the coach, the sudden violence left bystanders frozen, and no one intervened. The train arrived at Borivali Station’s Platform 6 at approximately 11:04 PM. Before the train could come to a complete halt, Suvarna jumped onto the platform and escaped into the city transit crowds. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP personnel reached the compartment within three minutes, safely evacuating a critically injured Lohar onto a stretcher by 11:12 PM. He was taken to the station's Emergency Medical Room and subsequently moved to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where doctors declared him dead due to severe internal trauma. To track down the attacker, the Borivali GRP established six specialised search teams. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage across multiple transit hubs and eventually established Suvarna’s location after questioning his father. Suvarna was ultimately intercepted and taken into custody in the Kurla neighbourhood. The victim, Mayank Lohar, lived in Virar and had been working at a retail corporate office in Chakala, Andheri, for the past nine months. Although his family originally traces their lineage to Nepal, his relatives noted that they represent the sixth generation of their family residing in Mumbai. The fatal confrontation has renewed public concerns regarding safety protocols and baggage screening on Mumbai's suburban railway network. Because millions of commuters crowd the local trains daily during the monsoon season, authorities are facing mounting pressure to improve the presence of security personnel inside late-night compartments.
