The Niceaunties AI Video Grant is Now Open At Fellowship, we believe in creating an environment for experimentation and the development of ideas. That is why, when niceaunties proposed a 6-month grant program for mentorship and the creation of AI videos, we immediately said yes. The program will help support six artists, one every month, to create a Solo Show for the Fellowship Daily program. The commitment is to produce eight new videos based on a theme proposed by Niceaunties. This will be an open call for all the Daily Artists and the AI video community. This is the open call post; please follow, retweet and reply/submit a video for consideration. You have 3 days after this post to submit the work. ๐Ÿ“… Each grantee will receive a total of 2ETH provided by Niceaunties and Fellowship, as well as mentorship from Niceaunties and alejandro cartagena. The theme for this first month is ๐Ÿซด๐Ÿซด โ€œHow to make _โ€ A guide How you interpret and use this idea is completely open and can be as big and minimal part of the work you submit and produce during the grant. These funds and curatorial support are there to open up time for the creators to engage and create a space ideal for critical feedback. We believe that developing an artistic voice comes from experimentation and confrontation of ideas. All 8 pieces produced during the month will be auctioned on the daily . xyz site as a one-day Solo Show. All proceeds of the sales will go to the artists. We are looking for creators who want to expand their ideas and take their art to the next level. We thank Niceaunties for their passion and commitment to AI art and the art community. Good luck, everyone. Let's see some great art!

When I saw the mask "Tribes of the Calf" from Kanbas I knew I had to make it into reality. The jewelry and gold really made it stand out for me. Since Sam Spratt's The Masquerade was revealed, I have been spending time sculpting and dissecting the mask to recreate it in 3D as faithfully as possible. I delved into the creation of this mask for many reasons. I love a good challenge and this mask surely was one for me. Creating something in 3D from a 2D image is not easy, and especially when the source has generative nature, some stuff is hard to interpret, but I tried my best to make sure the visual integrity of the mask is as close to the original as possible. Splitting the whole mask into parts, filling the missing pieces so I can build the textures was quite a lot of work. I tried to present the mask in my own style with a slightly different colorway to adapt to the mask itself. Please enjoy this short animation, and turn on sound๐Ÿ”Š This piece is my statement that I am here to stay. That I have a voice that often feels being lost in the void. That I have been creating and posting digital art for over 20 years now and will continue until I'm gone. I have a story to tell and I want to be heard. The space we have here is small, and is shrinking day by day. It doesn't have to be like that. We need to support each other and push ourselves and people here, otherwise we are all doomed. As Kanbas has put in their observation of the mask: "Inspirational. Emotional. Natural." This is what our space can be, and this is me making a statement with this homage. I will share a 4k still below as well as a short video showing the 3D GLB interactive model together with a yt link to the 4k video since compression here is pretty bad.

My upcoming release of "Cinematic AI" has made me think about how bodies of work are formed. I think some are manifested and some are revealed. I think "Cinematic AI" falls into the latter category. It was not something I had a clear vision for and then created, but it was something that was revealed to me over time. I thought I saw a glimmer of it early on, but only after some time had past, could I see the body of work emerge. With a bit more context and watching great artists and how they work and think, it finally came to me that this series of 15-20 pieces that I had created could be a worthy collection to mint. AI art has been going through so many transformations from the early GAN work to Collaborative AI to now AI being widely accessible through platforms like MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, and many others. But one area that I have seen explode in recent months is cinematic AI. I distinguish this from animated AI, which has been around for a while, but cinematic AI is where the movements created by AI are getting closer to what you'd see in a movie or captured on a video camera. It still has a long way to go but it is getting more real than surreal as the technology develops. And this is where I seem to have found my groove, my home, my little corner in the artistic landscape. After Runway launched their image-to-video tool, it just blew my mind and I went down a deep rabbit hole and have created a new cinematic AI piece almost every other day for the past few months. I initially saw many of these pieces as just experiments, but with some time to reflect, I am seeing them as having the potential of being relevant pieces of artwork to mark this time in the development of AI. In some cases, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to create a similar piece again, since the tools I use are not in my control, but in the control of the AI platforms, who are constantly improving and evolving the tools. Given all of this, there is no better way to mark my place in time than on the blockchain. I truly believe that this body of work has the potential to be an important artifact of this era in AI and AI art. It is always hard to judge ones own work, but what I can do is permanently etch in time on an immutable public database saying that I created this. Only time will tell if the work has any value or is of any significance, but who created it and what was created cannot be disputed. I hope this gives you and especially collectors some perspective on the work I'll be releasing next week. I'm still very early in my artistic journey, but hopefully some of you will see promise in what I'm doing and maybe even put in a early bet on my art practice by bidding on a piece next week. Thanks to all of you who have supported me, taught me, advised me, been a friend to me. Much love and respect.๐Ÿ™ ------------------------------------- CINEMATIC AI October 25, 2023 Marking on the blockchain, establishing historical provenance for a cinematic AI body of work. Thanks to Central Connecticut State University for posting this video. I also want to thank the university for allowing my family and I to be the Founding Donors and help create the John Lewis Institute for Social Justice several years ago. I'm genuinely grateful for the platform that Central Connecticut State University gave us to serve students & faculty in the CCSU community in this unique way. The JLI Scholar spring break trip to Montgomery included visiting the Equal Justice Initiative Justice Initiative Legacy Sites, historic Montgomery Greyhound Bus Terminal & the Freedom Riders Museum ( and the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church where Martin Luther King Jr. began his first full-time pastorship in 1954. The EJI Legacy Sites include a museum, memorial, and monument. I visit my friend Bryan Stevenson (#JustMercy) and The Legacy Museum at least once a year. The museum is one of the most powerful, comprehensive experiences I have ever seen, by using video, artwork, holograms and other technology. The art of Molly Crabapple๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ท still takes my breath away ( The JLI Scholars also traveled to #Selma for the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Brown Chapel AME Church and finally Birmingham to visit the 16th St Baptist Church and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute CCSU is over 46% First-Gen students - many with limited resources to travel like I was in college. This trip was a first of its kind experience for eight students and three faculty. I can personally understand the gravity of the experience. I did not have the opportunity to visit Civil Rights sights many parts of the south until I was an adult. However, the impact it had on me has been lifelong and it continues. I visit those sights and others EVERY year. Retrospectively, I still believe it wasn't a mistake that my/our commencement speaker at CCSU in 1988 was NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Hooks A tremendous 'thank you' to Beth Merenstein, Dr. Evelyn Newman Phillips and Dr. Audra King for their commitment to the JLI of Social Justice and for making the students trip/experience so special If the spirit moves you, please consider contributing to this amazing program at Central Connecticut State University: #goodtrouble #JohnLewis #MLK Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Central Connecticut State Universityfootball Central Connecticut State UniversityBlueDevils Central Connecticut State University_Fanatics RISE

Check out our latest #Earth2 #creation the #MotorwayMarauder๐ŸŒโœŒ๏ธFrom #ConceptArt to #gameready, gives me #MadMax & #Terminator vibes - love it! Some #IMPORTANT things to remember about #Earth2 #drops leading up to #E2V1๐Ÿ‘‡ 1โƒฃAcquiring #skins is completely optional 2โƒฃ Notably, the #skins we drop leading up to the #E2V1 release will more likely have a โ€˜Limited Supplyโ€™, something that rewards our early supporters with increased rarity. These Limited Supply drops will become less frequent in the future being replaced with drops of unlimited supply but restricted availability requiring Players to wait for a skin to become available in the skin store or hope to acquire it via game play inside #E2V1 3โƒฃ Our goal is not to have these early #skin drops sell out during their maiden release, but rather provide an opportunity for our early supporters to secure skins they like at a discounted price with the welcoming guarantee of an all time Limited Supply. 4โƒฃ Most of the early #skin drops will naturally allow #Players to resell them, but importantly many will also be assigned with a once ever discount rate. #Skins that have Future Price Reduction assigned with โ€œNoโ€ means that if the #skin does not sell out on its maiden drop and subsequently gets listed in store again at a future date, #Earth2 will never resell that #skin at any discounted rate. 5โƒฃ #Earth2 is building a modular clothing system, meaning that most items of clothing, especially if sold separately, will be interchangeable on avatars making them more useful and giving the #Player more ways to mix up their outfits, look the part & express themselves. 6โƒฃ The version of the skin you see in store is the base version you receive with the skin, however, there will also be opportunities to tailor outfits in game allowing for the adjustment in fabrics, prints, colours and more (be prepared for a little legwork though, unless you want to take your clothing items to another #Player who specialises in tailoring). 7โƒฃ #Earth2 is proud to have uniquely designed the #skins you listed in our store & it is important to remember that these #skins are the end result of a long and stringent internal character pipeline we have developed. Each skin starts from concept art which is reviewed and iterated on numerous times before being approved. Once approval is given, it is handed to our 3D modelling team for sculpting into high poly, then low poly, while receiving numerous reviews and adhering to our pipeline protocols. When the low poly version is finished, the 3D team then finishes with UV mapping and texture baking and runs their own QA process. Once the entire 3D sculpting process is approved, the models enter the skinning, rigging and weight painting process and are then passed to the animation team for further testing with various animations and another set of QA such as minimising clipping and identifying any other potential flaws in the model. The model then needs to go through the final process with a game developer to ensure it passed the final tests and is game ready for #E2V1. 8โƒฃ The above steps only represent a light explanation of our character and clothing pipeline, but as you can see weโ€™re not simply selling static concept art images or a high poly 3D model that lacks any kind of optimisations resulting in little chance of it ever being game ready in its advertised state - there is a lot of work that takes place in order to get these skins to the stage our #Players see them in the video footage. Each skin sold helps support different parts of the development of Earth 2 providing us with new opportunities to further expand our team, speed up development and keep stepping closer to our short and long term goals for #E2V1 and #Earth2. 9โƒฃ We understand that fashion will become a big part of the #Metaverse, but we want to remind people that while some #Players may decide to set rules for certain skins being required for access or a ticket to entry under certain circumstances, from #Earth2โ€™s perspective these skins are for cosmetic purposes only. ๐Ÿ”Ÿ These skin drops also give #Earth2 the chance to show off our ability and versatility in avatar creation and accessories so even if youโ€™re not keen on picking up a skin, remember to have fun and simply enjoy the progress! Also take heart every time you see a #skindrop, if the #E2V1 pre-alpha was not launching this year I wouldn't be dropping skins. We want to have at least some diversity for #avatars inside #E2V1 from the early stages! #Earth2 #Metaverse #Skins #Fashion #Collectibles #3DWorld #WIP #prealpha2024

In 1998, Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy. Everyone advised Tim Cook not to join. "They thought it was headed straight down." He saw something different. A sparkle in Steve's eye. He spent 6 minutes explaining what Jobs actually taught him: Steve Jobs was a teacher. "He taught me the value of focus, the importance of simplicity, the fact that making things simple is so much harder than making things complex." "For those of us that were fortunate enough to work with him, he was the teacher of a lifetime." When Jobs recruited him, Cook trusted his gut. "There was a feeling I had in talking to Steve that he was a very different kind of CEO. He was focused on products, products, and products." "He had a belief that small teams could do amazing work. I love that vision." Everyone else was chasing enterprise. Jobs wanted consumers. "In an environment where everyone was going to an enterprise kind of company, he wanted to refocus Apple on consumers." "It was brilliant because at the time nobody was doing that. Everybody thought you could not make any money selling to consumers." "I've never thought it was a good idea to follow the herd." Cook saw what others missed. "I thought I had a chance of a lifetime to work with the creative genius that started the entire industry. I didn't want to pass that up." People had forgotten how close Apple was to death. "Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy. It was a really awful time. People advised me not to come because they thought it was headed straight down." "But I saw something different. I saw the sparkle in Steve's eye. It meant we could pull off this turnaround for this American treasure." "I'm so glad to have been a part of that team." The teams that built Apple's greatest products were tiny. "He taught me the value of innovation, the fact that small teams could do amazing things." "I look at the size of the iPod team initially. I look at the size of the iPhone team. These were very small teams in the scheme of things." Jobs hired people who challenged him. "Hiring the best people to surround you that challenge you. That have skills that you don't. And being confident with that." The skill that made Jobs different wasn't conviction. It was flexibility. "He taught me not to be married to my past views. Not to be so proud you can't change your mind when you're presented with new evidence." "He could change like this." Cook was initially taken aback. "And then I became so enamored with it. Very few people have that skill because they get married to their past views." "I thought it was a brilliant skill." Did Jobs change Cook's mind? "Oh, he changed my mind about a lot of things. And he changed his mind about a lot of things." Did Cook ever change Jobs's mind? "Yes, of course. He loved to debate. He loved someone to debate him. You could always change his mind if you had the best idea." "We changed each other's minds. That's the reason it works so well." Cook sees supply chain as art. "Manufacturing has always interested me because I'm very curious about how things are made. I like to go to factories and see how things are put together, how they're created." "My undergraduate degree is in industrial engineering. It's essentially the study of people and machines and how the two working together can create things they couldn't create on their own." "I've always viewed the supply chain to be a bit of a piece of art when it's done correctly. It's a symphony of thousands of different components and parts coming together to create something." What did he sacrifice to get here? "Sleep. And fortunately, I love coffee." How much coffee? "Many cups. Please do not benchmark that." He starts every morning the same way. "I get up very early. I quickly go to the Mac and begin to go through the emails that have come in." "A lot of what I'm reading are from customers telling me how they're using our products and what it's doing for them." "I get notes that are positive and some that are not so positive. People feel free to reach out and voice their opinion. I think this is great because it keeps my hand on the pulse of the company." How does he handle criticism? "I have relatively thick skin. I try to internalize it and ask myself: is that accurate or not? Not just quickly put up a defensive shield and say why what we've done is right." What do people not realize about his job? "How much fun it is." "At times I hear other CEOs talk about how terrible their jobs are. Mine is fantastic. I love it." He made a 25-year plan in graduate school. "The first year or two was reasonably accurate. After that, it wasn't worth the paper it was written on." "Life has a way of happening and throwing you off from some well-crafted plan." "The most important thing is to roll with it. Make sure you recognize when doors are opening. And choose the one to walk through."

๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐ŸฌPI NETWORK NEWS: Pi Network and the 100 Apps Ready for Mainnet: Understand Clearly, Wait Patiently, and Build Together 1. Frequently Asked Question: โ€œWhere Are the Promised 100 Apps?โ€ As Pi Network progresses toward a truly decentralized blockchain ecosystem, the community naturally wonders: Where are the 100 decentralized applications (dApps) that were promised to be ready for Mainnet? This is a perfectly valid question, showing the communityโ€™s interest in the pace of ecosystem development and the role of the Pi Core Team in driving innovation. 2. The Pi Core Team Doesnโ€™t Build Everything โ€“ The Community Is the Heart of the Ecosystem The key point to understand is: Pi Network is a community-driven project. The Pi Core Team is not responsible for building all the apps. Their focus is on building the infrastructure, tools, and a safe environment โ€“ empowering external developers to independently create and deploy applications. Pi provides: - An optimized blockchain platform for mobile devices - SDKs, APIs, and developer documentation - A governance model that encourages innovation 3. Early Stage: Community-Built dApps โ€“ Underfunded But Passionate In the early stages, many applications were created by passionate pioneers, self-funded and full of creativity. However, due to budget limitations, most of these apps remained in experimental or prototype form, not yet ready for wide-scale deployment. Despite their early-stage nature, these apps played a crucial role in demonstrating Pi's blockchain potential and encouraging broader developer engagement. 4. A New Turning Point: $100 Million Ecosystem Fund and Pi Network Ventures A major change has arrived: Pi Network Ventures and a $100 million ecosystem fund have officially launched. This brings: - Strong financial support to upgrade promising apps - Opportunities to scale and enhance advanced features - Marketing assistance, user acquisition support, and long-term sustainability This is a decisive push paving the way for a wave of high-quality dApps ready for Mainnet. 5. A Diverse, Decentralized Ecosystem Built by the Community The Pi Core Team does not control everything but builds the foundation for an open ecosystem, where developers, entrepreneurs, and the community play leading roles. This decentralization helps to: - Increase application diversity - Avoid reliance on a single entity - Encourage collaboration and innovation from many directions 6. 100+ Apps Will Soon Arrive โ€“ And Itโ€™s More Than Just a Number As funding, tools, and community momentum converge, an app explosion is predictable: More than 100 dApps ready for Mainnet will soon emerge, spanning areas like: - Decentralized finance (DeFi) - Gaming (GameFi) - Social media - Supply chain - Payments, asset management, and more This will expand Piโ€™s real-world utility, attract more users, and strengthen Pi Networkโ€™s position in the Web3 space. 7. Why Patience and Cooperation Are Essential Building a global-scale blockchain ecosystem does not happen overnight. It requires: - Solid technology - Passionate development teams - A resilient and collaborative community - Time for products to mature and prove their value The patience and contributions of pioneers like you are the driving force of this journey. 8. A Broad Vision: Web3 and Social Impact The future of Pi Network is not just about technical platforms: It is about a connected ecosystem with social and economic impact, serving billions of people, not just a privileged few. With a focus on inclusive, meaningful, user-friendly applications, Pi is preparing for a fair and inclusive Web3 future. โœ…Conclusion: 100+ Apps โ€“ Not Just an Empty Promise, But a Realization in Progress The question โ€œWhere are the 100 apps?โ€ is fair. But more importantly, you need to know that: - The infrastructure is ready - The funding is available - The community is building continuously And you โ€“ the pioneer โ€“ are part of the answer. Be patient, collaborate, and support the developers and fellow pioneers. Because the future of Pi Network does not belong to just a few, it belongs to all of us working together.๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ ------------------------- ๐Ÿฅฐ P.S.: The Global GCV Core Team welcomes pioneers from around the world to work together to build a strong GCV-based Pi economy. the future is not the app store a 6 minute rant vibe coding tools have one problem no one's talking about anyone can make an app but no one can release an app posting on tiktok is instant, posting on youtube is instant what if posting a video on tiktok took 2-7 days and a panel of individuals who have NEVER posted a tiktok on their own, determined if your video was "tiktok-like" welcome to the 2025 app store, where this is the case let me explain a long time ago, when the first few iphones were released, apple had a tough battle motorola and blackberry were great competitors with phones people loved apple decided to open up the app store, and invite devs to come create whatever they wanted the app store was created by people like me, iBeer, Paper toss, Bump. these are my founding fathers. people who treated engineering as art. they didn't care about being cool they cared about making their friends look cool and using iBeer made you look cool the catch was -> iBeer was only available on the iPhone as hundreds of these iPhone exclusive apps were released thousands, hundreds of thousands, and millions flocked to use an iPhone small, focused, creative apps made the iPhone what it was but as soon as the iPhone became incumbent, the doors shut. tight. new rules. new regulations. new taxes. i spent the last 6 days working on an app we release an app a week at Danger Testing, bringing back that old energy. making the internet fun again i didnt sleep much, and even with the trauma the app store has put me in before ~ i had faith. that they would do right by this work I put in I was wrong They haggled with me for a few days on the type of data I was storing, which was none ~ (they would know that if they were engineers) Then at the last minute mailed it in with a rejection, with the words "this app is not app like" a sentence that means nothing Guideline 4.2 - Design - Minimum Functionality this is a guideline they hide behind anytime they have decided internally they don't feel an app should be released, but don't want to tell you why you leave me stranded. no where to go, no improvements to make, just go away there's a huge opportunity waiting to happen in apps right now for the first time apps can be cultural commentary, apps can be viral and ephemeral APPS CAN BE EVERYTHING YOUTUBE VIDEOS CAN BE software is fast, software costs nothing everything is lined up except the app store as it stands isn't a platform, it's a government and your average vibe coder is not going to push through a rejection, let alone 20+ rejections -> which i received on my first app of the year millions of apps will be made the success of these apps should be dependent on distribution, not on if some dude thinks its legit This revolution will NOT happen if the doors we have to go through are owned by the app store We need something new, something true and beautiful and welcoming Danger Testing wants everyone to be an appstar This tweet is not on the heels of a single rejection It's on the heels of hundreds of app store rejections in a lifetime A battle to provide the world with what I know it will love But a battle filled with friction at every turn due to the suits I remember being at a hackathon and making this app with andrea The judges ranked us last place, said the app was too goofy Today the last iteration of that app got 25+ million views across the internet This is the new world A group of dudes sitting behind a table don't get to decide our reality, we get to create it Fight back Don't ever allow yourself to be subjected by non shipper losers with no courage The cavalry isn't coming We are the cavalry Let's fight

[English Transcript] Mr. President, please take a closer look at the issue between NewJeans and HYBE. This video does not simply address a dispute between one company and one artist team. It deals with nationally significant issues... the structure of the cultural industry within the K-pop creative ecosystem, the way power operates, how public opinion is shaped, and the transparency of democracy itself. That is why this video may be somewhat lengthy, but I sincerely ask you to watch it until the end. The key messages I want to convey are organized as follows: 1. Why the State Must Pay Attention to K-pop Industry Issues K-pop drives domestic demand, exports, and tourism. Alongside semiconductors and defense, it is a strategic industry led by the next generation, a core field that the nation must protect and foster. Therefore, the government needs to inspect the health and structural problems of the K-pop creative ecosystem. 2. Why the Government Must Pay Attention to the NewJeansโ€“HYBE Case (Reason 1) The new direction that Min Hee-jin and NewJeans have shown in K-pop represents a healthy production model centered on respect for artists and the creative process. This could become a turning point for improving the problems in the current K-pop system. (Reason 2) This is not merely an issue involving one team. It is a case that exposes how structures of power suppress and exclude creative agents. To ensure the sustainability of the entire cultural and industrial ecosystem, this needs to be examined and addressed. (Reason 3) The way this situation has been handled, through media influence, legal maneuvering, and alleged manipulation of public opinion, raises issues that go beyond this industry and are directly tied to the principles of fairness and democracy. Therefore, a special audit of the company is necessary for the sake of the public interest. 3. Comprehensive Proposal: This is not a trivial internal conflict within one company. It exposes structural problems in the K-pop industry and holds the potential to change its future. Moreover, it could become a symbolic turning point that brings about meaningful structural change in Koreaโ€™s cultural and industrial landscape. Please, take the time to listen until the end. This video was made independently and conscientiously, with no personal or financial interest, out of concern for Koreaโ€™s cultural and industrial development and national competitiveness. So please, I ask that you take the time to listen until the end. This video was made independently, without any private interest, and with a sincere concern for the development of Koreaโ€™s cultural industry and national competitiveness. Why the K-pop Industry Deserves National Attention Mr. President, you have emphasized revitalizing the domestic economy as a national priority. K-pop does precisely that, it stimulates exports and tourism, invigorates small businesses and local economies, and supports livelihood industries. The economic ripple effect of the K-pop industry can revitalize entire regions, from restaurants, souvenir shops, and accommodations to transportation, shopping, performances, and exhibitions. While public support funds only redistribute an existing domestic pie, growth in industries like K-pop that reach global markets expands the pie itself. K-pop also creates value from nothing, with far fewer geographic or geopolitical constraints than manufacturing, and generates steady global revenue. As a brand, K-culture has unique global competitiveness and irreplaceable differentiation. Moreover, as a nation in a key geopolitical position, the more South Korea is recognized culturally and attracts visitors, the stronger its hand becomes in diplomacy, trade, and security negotiations. 4. The Need for New Generational Leadership And in a rapidly changing global era, South Koreaโ€™s future depends on young creative talent, those who canโ€™t be constrained by the old frameworks of industrialization. K-pop, as a youth-led, globally competitive field, symbolizes this new future. Therefore, K-pop should be protected and developed just like semiconductors or defense industries, with government support to ensure a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. 5. Why NewJeans and Min Hee-jin Matter You may ask: To what extent should the government intervene? You once said that in the arts, where politicians may not fully grasp the nuances, it is essential to listen to skilled professionals who have proven results. Min Hee-jin is one such professional. From her start as a junior employee at SM Entertainment to becoming an executive, she demonstrated unmatched ability to connect artistic vision with popular success, without a single failure. At ADOR, with only around 16 billion won of capital, she achieved over 190 billion won in sales within two years, proving that artistic value can translate into economic value. Most importantly, she refused to exploit unethical industry practices like album bulk-buying. Instead, she built NewJeans to show that art itself can be profitable, proving that honesty and creativity can coexist in business. 6. A Healthier Model for Artist Treatment Under her leadership, artists were treated with dignity, provided good housing and supportive environments, invited to her home, encouraged to study art and participate in songwriting, and even paid promptly within two months of debut. When ADOR achieved major success, NewJeans members received tens of billions in settlements, unprecedented in K-pop. She never exploited fan loyalty for profit. Even if fans could afford only one album, she ensured it was worth their money, offering honest, high-quality content. This proved that true profit in K-pop can come from the artistic value itself, not from manipulative marketing. It showed a path toward ethical, sustainable growth for K-pop. Therefore, please, give Min Hee-jin and NewJeans a chance to work together again. At the very least, hear what they have to say about K-pop. And as for HYBE, there must be an audit equivalent to a special investigation. 7. The Mechanism of Power that Suppresses Creativity In April 2024, NewJeansโ€™ global popularity was explosive, topping Billboard and Spotify, reshaping girl-group trends, and breaking Guinness World Records. Without any world tour, they achieved over 100 billion won in revenue through music alone, surpassing even the early growth rates of BTS and BLACKPINK. Yet, at the height of this success, HYBE raided ADORโ€™s offices, dismissed CEO Min Hee-jin, and dismantled the creative foundation that built NewJeans. This not only destroyed one teamโ€™s future but also dealt a severe blow to Koreaโ€™s cultural competitiveness. HYBEโ€™s public reason? That Min Hee-jin tried to take NewJeans independent. But given that HYBE owns 80% of ADORโ€™s shares, such independence was structurally impossible. The true goal appears to have been to strip Min of her authority and seize control of the creative process. After her removal, the core creative staff who built NewJeans were fired or pushed out. Suspicious internal financial transactions followed. The pattern matches what we have seen before in HYBE, talented creators producing success, only to be marginalized once their results can be absorbed by corporate power. 8. The Pattern of Power and Control within HYBE In previous cases, key developers and creators were pushed out as HYBEโ€™s management centralized around one man, Chairman Bang Si-hyuk. After public listing, HYBE expanded aggressively through acquisitions, and the CEOs of those subsidiaries were later removed. The same pattern repeated with Min Hee-jin and ADOR. And in all this, the creative value, the art itself, was disregarded. No healthy company destroys its most successful creative division. This is abnormal, and therefore demands scrutiny. The courts may hesitate to intervene, since rulings could affect corporate precedents, but that is exactly why state-level oversight is needed. K-pop is a national asset, and if a leading K-pop company makes such abnormal decisions toward one of its most promising teams, the state has ample reason for a public audit. 9. The Need for Transparency in Media and Judiciary HYBEโ€™s pattern involves media manipulation, legal intimidation, and organized online smear campaigns. Comparing reports over the past year reveals clear imbalance, suggesting external influence on editorial direction. Thus, media reform to ensure fair reporting is needed. Judicial and public-opinion manipulation must also be examined. Cases of coordinated comment attacks on lawmakers who criticized HYBE during the 2024 National Assembly audit indicate possible โ€œcomment factoryโ€ activity, systematic online operations that distort public opinion. If such manipulation exists, it is a grave threat to democracy itself. When power can distort truth through money and media, neither creators, workers, nor consumers can be fairly evaluated. Auditing HYBE could expose how such systems operate, not only protecting K-pop, but preventing similar abuse in politics and other industries. 10. Broader Implications for Koreaโ€™s Future Industries This is a matter of principle. In every industry, from AI to manufacturing, progress depends on fair competition, respect for skilled practitioners, and merit-based leadership. When leadership is earned through competence, industries thrive; when it is preserved through privilege, they decay. Koreaโ€™s rapid development has produced entrenched interests without fair verification of ability, a structural problem visible across industries. And when the leading company in such a vital cultural field behaves this way, the state must intervene. Good leaders and companies that value authenticity, fairness, and creativity should be given the opportunity to set the new standard. Min Hee-jin and NewJeans demonstrated that possibility in K-pop. Only when merit-based, ethical companies lead can any industry, including K-pop, achieve sustainable and healthy growth. A strong, fair industrial foundation is the prerequisite for a truly sustainable welfare state. That is the responsibility of government. 11. Final Appeal Mr. President, the NewJeansโ€“HYBE issue is not just an internal dispute. It is a test case, whether Korea will continue allowing power to suppress creativity and absorb othersโ€™ achievements, or whether it will set a new standard for fairness across industries. Please give Min Hee-jin and NewJeans the opportunity to work together again. Please listen to the voices of artists who have built the true value of K-pop. That voice can become the driving force for Koreaโ€™s future. To all viewers This channel is not monetized and holds no vested interests in any party. I speak not as a fan of any group, but as a citizen who loves this country and wishes for Koreaโ€™s cultural and industrial future to grow in the right direction. I know my perspective may not always be correct. If there are misunderstandings, I welcome correction with evidence. But if this message carries even a grain of truth, if it sounds fair and meaningful, then please help deliver it to those who can make change, including the President. Somewhere around you, a friend, colleague, family member, or even your local hairdresser, there may be someone who can understand and act. This voice may be minor, it may soon fade, but if even one more person begins to think critically about these unjust structures, that awareness can gather and become the power to build a better society. ------ Watch the video on youtube:

Her words are a wake-up call โ€” a reminder that this movement only grows stronger through our action, unity, and unwavering commitment. As we enter a new month, let us take her message to heart. Let us stand together, share the Buy Back Campaign, and guide pioneers with courage and leadership. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Below is the full speech from Ms. Lumari โ€” please read, reflect, and take action. Together, we are the driving force behind the future of Pi. Together, we protect the value we believe in. ๐Ÿ’ชโšก --------------------- "Global GCV Ambassadors Meeting May 31, 2025 Hello everyone โ€” to all our amazing Head Ambassadors, Education Ambassadors, and most especially to our beloved Ms. Doris Yin. Your dedication and passion are what keep this movement alive and growing every day. Iโ€™m truly grateful to be with you all today as we gather once again to push forward with purpose and heart. This meeting is a follow-up to our last gathering, but today feels even more urgent โ€” because we need to come together now more than ever. And Iโ€™ll be honest: Iโ€™ve noticed that only a few are really paying attention to our calls and responsibilities. So hereโ€™s a tough but important question: Do we really want to win? If your answer is yes, then itโ€™s time to show it โ€” not just with words, but with action. Today is May 31 โ€” the last day of the month. Tomorrow is June โ€” a fresh start, a new opportunity to realign with our mission. Thatโ€™s why we are urging everyone to fully commit to the Buy Back Campaign. We need to make reposting the Buy Back Campaign a habit. Right now, only a few are consistently sharing it. Our campaign should be everywhere โ€” loud and proud. Weโ€™ll keep monitoring reposting activity. Just two weeks ago, we reached 70% reposting โ€” but now weโ€™re back down to 20%. Reposting is easy. It only takes a few seconds. So please, letโ€™s do it โ€” consistently. It shows we are proud ambassadors of this movement. To all Head Ambassadors and Education Ambassadors: You each play critical roles. Head Ambassadors โ€” you are the drivers of the Buy Back Campaign. - Your leadership is what makes this movement come alive in your countries. You are responsible for: Coordination, setting national goals, tracking progress, ensuring full engagement and maintaining consistent communication. You are also tasked with recording and reporting Pi purchases in your country. These reports come directly to me and are crucial to measuring our collective impact. Education Ambassadors โ€” you are the heart of understanding. - Your mission is not just to share information โ€” but to inspire and move people. - Host regular training sessions. - Make sure every pioneer understands why buying Pi matters. - Itโ€™s not enough for them to just hear the message โ€” they need to feel it, to know that their participation matters deeply. Walk them through the Buy Back process if needed. Make it simple. Even better โ€” lead by example. When they see you doing it, theyโ€™ll feel empowered to do the same. This is how we multiply efforts โ€” and scale our impact. Education is not just teaching โ€” itโ€™s mobilizing. So why do we have a Buy Back Campaign? Because we must buy back Pi from the exchanges โ€” to protect the value weโ€™ve built with our own hands and hearts. When pioneers buy even just 10 or 20 Pi, weโ€™re pulling it away from speculators โ€” and bringing it back into the hands of our committed community. That act: - Strengthens our economy - Stabilizes Piโ€™s value and - Shows the world our unity. Hereโ€™s the strategic insight: When Pi on exchanges runs out, launching Open Mainnet becomes much easier. Thatโ€™s our goal. To act now, not later. Why do we believe we can empty the exchanges? Because the numbers are on our side. - About 14 million pioneers have migrated their Pi. - 84% โ€” more than 11 million people โ€” own less than 10 Pi. They are the silent majority. If even a small portion buys back just 10 or 20 Pi, it will trigger a transformation we canโ€™t stop. Whatโ€™s missing? - Direction. - Purpose. - Courage. If every pioneer chips in, we make history. Letโ€™s break it down: - 1 million pioneers buying back 20 Pi = 20 million Pi back in the ecosystem - 5 million = 100 million Pi - 11 million = enough to drain the liquidity and protect our future Think about this: Two Cups of Coffee. Thatโ€™s all it takes to buy back 10 Pi today on a CEX. Do you drink coffee every day? Then you can buy back Pi. So ask yourself: What do you want more โ€” your daily caffeine, or economic freedom? And what if all 70 million pioneers acted? If each one held or recovered just 20 Pi โ€” thatโ€™s 1.4 billion Pi back in pioneer hands. Thatโ€™s more than enough to protect our whole ecosystem โ€” and give us the power to decide our future. Starting June 7, 2025 โ€” All Head Ambassadors must begin submitting regular reports on Pi purchases made in your country. These reports are vital to the success of the Buy Back Campaign. Also, please post these Pi purchases on X (formerly Twitter). Why? Because people imitate what they see. When they see others buying Pi โ€” theyโ€™re more likely to do it themselves. Thatโ€™s why visibility matters. Thatโ€™s why social proof is powerful. Letโ€™s show the strength of our movement. Letโ€™s inspire trust and action through consistency. Together, we rise. Thank you. Even before debuting as NewJeans and through all of the time that we spent together with Min Hee-jin Daepyonim, all of us felt that the music we wanted to make and the kind of world we wanted to build together, our vision, was similar in so many ways. With Min Hee-jin Daepyonim, we were able to prepare each and every task with sincere hearts, and I believe it shows in our work. Putting our sincere effort into something is only possible because the people that we're working with have trust in each other and have that same vision. Min Hee-jin Daepyonim is not only the person that produces our music, but someone who makes NewJeans who we are. She discusses even the smallest details with us and explains them in ways that we can understand clearly. NewJeans has a distinct colour and tone, and this was created with Min Hee-jin Daepyonim. She is integral to NewJeansโ€™ identity, and we all feel that she is irreplaceable.โ€ Danielle clearly stated this and also expressed it in English. So, in terms of the NewJeans issue, international fans who donโ€™t have much information may not have had a clear perception of Ms. Min Hee-jin or how to view this issue. If you look at the comments, it was very poorly organized. In Korea, we now have clear information, so NewJeans fans, Bunnies, are cheering for NewJeans and supporting Ms. Min Hee-jin. It has become clearly sorted out like this. However, internationally, it hasnโ€™t been clearly explained. But with Danielle explaining it so well in English, I expect that from now on, the international atmosphere will shift towards attacking HYBE, criticizing Bang Si-hyuk, and supporting Ms. Min Hee-jin and NewJeans worldwide. So, now that the artist has clearly stated their position and made it clear that the identity and assets of the NewJeans brand come from Ms. Min Hee-jin, regardless of any legal disputes or lawsuits, in the minds of the fans, NewJeans equals Min Hee-jin. And as for the current management of ADOR and HYBE, they will be seen as the ones attacking NewJeans and the mysterious people with no clear motive, such as Bang Si-hyuk. I think this will now be clear. Considering the nature of the entertainment industry, like many creative industries and the cultural industry, this is not manufacturing. Many things canโ€™t be determined through legal processes like patents for ideas or lawsuits. The B2C market, or the market for services and consumption of an artist's brand, is driven by sensitivity. People consume it because of the emotional connection and enjoy it because of that sensitivity. So, whatโ€™s the point of winning a legal case? Even if HYBE were to win any legal case, do you think consumers wouldnโ€™t boycott NewJeansโ€™ music or other products afterward? I believe HYBE will be punished in some way for its actions towards ADOR and its current management. The way they are handling risk management is shortsighted, as they fail to understand peopleโ€™s emotions. They seem to only rely on the advice of legal professionals and accountants, and their entire approach to this issue is so narrow-minded and misguided. It feels incredibly foolish to me. So, to summarize: NewJeansโ€™ branding was done by Ms. Min Hee-jin. The identity and assets of the NewJeans brand were created by her, and we did it together because of her. Haerin: โ€œHowever, even after our debut, there have been many unfair and incomprehensible incidents that you might not know about, and these incidents have only increased over time. As some of you may know, recently, videos from our trainee days and private records, such as medical information, were leaked. When I first saw that, I was really shocked. It was hard to understand how our company, which is supposed to protect us, failed to manage and allowed such information to be leaked. Naturally, this situation has made us worry that other strange or false information about us might spread in the future. Although we, along with our parents and Min Hee-jin Daepyonim, have raised concerns about this to HYBE, they havenโ€™t resolved the issue, nor have they taken any proactive measures. Then, in the midst of all this, our CEO was dismissed, and weโ€™re left wondering whom we can trust and rely on. Weโ€™ve come to the conclusion that if we donโ€™t speak out about this now, no one will know what weโ€™re going through. After much discussion among ourselves, we finally decided to take this step.โ€ The current situation is shocking, but this is not just about this one incident; theyโ€™ve been continuously receiving unfair treatment from HYBE. The fact that they are saying this publicly now is truly shocking. Theyโ€™ve been discussing these unfair treatments with their parents and Ms. Min Hee-jin while continuing their activities as NewJeans. They are saying that the unfair treatment from HYBE has been ongoing. Itโ€™s hard to understand as an outsider, but now the artists themselves have confirmed that there have been instances where the company has mistreated them. This is no longer a matter of speculation or exaggeration. NewJeans has officially admitted that HYBE has been continuously mistreating them. Moving forward, this changes the entire perspective on the issue. Itโ€™s no longer just NewJeans vs. HYBE or Min Hee-jin vs. Bang Si-hyuk. Itโ€™s hard to even imagine the reality of this situation. Now that the NewJeans artists have come out and said that HYBE has mistreated them, regardless of how HYBE tries to communicate going forward, they will now be framed as the ones mistreating NewJeans. How can they possibly shake off this perception now? I donโ€™t think they can. Hanni: โ€œSomething happened to me recently. The 4th floor of the HYBE building is where we get our hair and makeup done, so a lot of other artists and staff come and go there. One day, I was waiting alone in the hallway, and some staff from another team passed by. We greeted each other, but when they came back out a bit later, I heard one of their managers say, โ€œIgnore her,โ€ right in front of me. I could hear and see everything clearly. Even now, I still donโ€™t understand why I had to go through that.โ€ I still donโ€™t understand why that happened, even now. When I think about it, I feel like it was really ridiculous. This story from Hanni was so frustrating and absurd. Wow, what Hanni just shared is really shocking. She mentioned meeting an artist, and that artist's manager told them to ignore her. If this happened in middle or high school, people would probably dismiss it as childish fighting, but this happened among adults, and it's becoming a huge issue. Honestly, the NewJeans members arenโ€™t sharing these stories to stir things up. Theyโ€™re probably just speaking truthfully about their experiences and trying to be genuine with their fans, saying, โ€œItโ€™s time we express our stance honestly.โ€ The timing and approach theyโ€™ve taken are actually perfect. They started by clearly explaining their motivations and why theyโ€™re speaking out, then moved on to using English to express what NewJeansโ€™ identity is and the members' feelings, as well as their history with their manager. They made it clear how they feel about these situations. Now, they've started sharing more detailed stories. The way theyโ€™ve structured everything is so good because people remember stories more than abstract thoughts or philosophies. When you say, โ€œThis happened to me,โ€ people are much more likely to remember that than vague statements. Hanni shared her unfair experience in such an honest way, and I think itโ€™s going to spread widely. I can already imagine netizens trying to figure out which manager it was, which artist, and so on. This story will likely go viral. People remember stories like this because they stick in their minds. For example, remember when Bang Si-hyuk didnโ€™t return NewJeansโ€™ greeting, and it became a huge thing about face blindness? People donโ€™t remember the details, but they remember that someone important didnโ€™t greet them. It became a memorable story. Minji: โ€œWhen I heard about what Hanni experienced, I was really shocked. How could a manager from another team tell their members to ignore one of us, and say it so loudly that Hanni could hear it? Such unimaginable words and behavior were directed at us, yet there was no apology, nor did they even acknowledge their wrongdoing. Of course, Iโ€™m worried about how many more similar incidents might occur in the future and whether weโ€™ll be subtly ostracized without anyone there to protect us.โ€ Hanni: โ€œI hope no one else has to go through something like that, but since itโ€™s already happened once, I canโ€™t help but feel scared that other members might experience the same thing. I spoke to the new CEO about it, but since I didnโ€™t have evidence and it was considered too late, they seemed to brush it off, making me feel like thereโ€™s no one left to protect us. It really felt like the concern for us was gone, and even though I was being honest, it made me feel like I was suddenly being treated as a liar. Before, Min Heejin, our previous CEO, used to take care of us a lot. But now, while the new people say theyโ€™ll help, itโ€™s just been months of excuses... excuses... excuses... They keep saying that itโ€™s something they canโ€™t resolve. But this is something that I personally went through and experienced, yet they are trying to dismiss it as if itโ€™s my fault. Iโ€™m worried and scared about what might happen next.โ€ I want to make two points here. First, this is clearly โ€œinvisibility.โ€ Itโ€™s not physical violence, but itโ€™s about not acknowledging someoneโ€™s greeting, deliberately ignoring them, and so on. While it may not seem like a big deal, it still deeply hurts someoneโ€™s feelings. Thereโ€™s been a lot of research on how these kinds of actions negatively affect an organization, spreading like poison and making people feel bad. Itโ€™s something we should really work against. The second point is about third-party justice. Hanni raised a legitimate concern, and it wasnโ€™t handled properly within the company. This made Hanni, Minji, and others realize that the new management isnโ€™t on their side. When others witness this, theyโ€™ll also realize that this company doesnโ€™t have their best interests at heart. This realization leads to a loss of trust. People will remember these events, and once this perception sticks, itโ€™s hard to change. It affects not just NewJeans, but also other artists who will think, โ€œOh, this is how HYBE treats people.โ€ And it even affects the employees who work there. Minji: โ€œOf course, Iโ€™m worried about our future, but whatโ€™s most frightening is that the work weโ€™ve already created is being compromised. Seeing the people who have poured their lives into creating our work being treated this way makes it hard to understand how this could be happening. The new management said they would separate producing and management, but weโ€™ve always worked differently from other labels, and we thought that our way was a good one. Now, Daepyonim can no longer approve all matters, and weโ€™re left wondering how weโ€™re supposed to continue working as we did before. The recent statement from the new management also didnโ€™t make sense to me. If they really didnโ€™t intend to interfere with our production, then the recent incident with Director Shin Woo-seok should never have happened, and it should have been handled differently. We are the ones directly involved with the copyrights and likeness rights of our content, yet theyโ€™re making decisions without our consent. In their statement, they kept saying they were acting to protect us and prevent our anxiety, but why do they keep insisting on this when they havenโ€™t considered our wishes? We donโ€™t want any more unnecessary issues to arise, and we want them to show respect and consideration for Daepyonim and all the directors who have worked with us. The things theyโ€™re doing right now are not in our best interest at all.โ€ Whatโ€™s worth discussing here is the perception of hypocrisy. People really dislike hypocrisy, and when you think about it, it makes sense. When humans are surviving, if thereโ€™s an enemy or a difficult environment, they overcome it as part of life. But the most dangerous situation is when you think someone is an ally, but they turn out to be an enemy. When you thought they were on your side but they stab you in the back โ€” thatโ€™s when people are really upset. Thatโ€™s why people hate it when thereโ€™s a discrepancy between outward appearances and inward intentions. It creates a near-hatred, especially when someone claims to be acting for your benefit but itโ€™s clear that theyโ€™re not. This is what Minji is clearly pointing out โ€” these people are hypocrites. New Jeans has already reached a conclusion internally: this new management team, in less than a month, has revealed themselves to be hypocrites. And theyโ€™ve shared this with the fans and everyone else. This isnโ€™t just some interesting topic on a live broadcast; this will cause a huge impact, and I am certain of that. New Jeans has come to a solid realization โ€” these people are not working for us. They are liars and hypocrites. Therefore, the new management can no longer properly lead the company. They will not be able to continue, and this system cannot be maintained. Why? Because the artist has called them out as hypocrites. The only way they can recover is by proving they arenโ€™t hypocrites, but even then, thatโ€™s not effective โ€” New Jeans would have to say it. But the chance of that happening is zero. In short, these people have been socially branded as hypocrites. The new managementโ€™s time is up. Less than a month, and their time is over. In the creative industry, especially in culture and the arts, content production โ€” such as creating songs or music videos โ€” cannot be separated from management. Thatโ€™s how weโ€™ve always worked, and it was good for us. Min Hee-jin was a remarkable creator and artist who understood all of this. The harmony between management and artistic decision-making brought about the incredible phenomenon of New Jeans. But now, theyโ€™ve created a system where that harmony canโ€™t exist anymore. Moreover, the new management is culturally ignorant. They donโ€™t understand art, music, or creativity. They have shown this clearly, especially with their mishandling of Director Shin Woo-seokโ€™s music video and the associated fan content, like those on the Dolphiners YouTube channel. Theyโ€™ve demanded to delete content without protecting the artists, or respecting the work of those who collaborated on it. Their management decisions show a complete lack of sensitivity or empathy. So once again, I say: "the new managementโ€™s time is over." Danielle: โ€œAs I mentioned earlier, our dream was to perform the music we want to make with Daepyonim, and we were working very hard toward that goal. But now, we canโ€™t do that, and the plans weโ€™ve made might not come to fruition. As Hanni unnie said earlier, just like that, the content that we released solely for our fans, for our bunnies, was instantly erased. And I truly can't understand why anyone would do this to a group, or just anyone in general. We were just working hard for the present, so what did we do wrong? A week after Daepyonim was dismissed, we found out that we could no longer work with the director weโ€™ve been working with all this time, and weโ€™re extremely anxious because we donโ€™t know what will happen to the staff who have always worked hard for us. If they really care about us, they should stop saying that they prioritize the artists and instead let us do the music we love in an environment where we can be genuinely happy. Is that really so hard to do? Itโ€™s hard to fully express whatโ€™s in my heart, but in the end, the five of us just want to continue our activities with Min Hee-jin Daepyonim, as we have done so far.โ€ Personally, they just want to be left aloneโ€”just "Leave us alone. Don't interfere; just leave us alone.โ€ This is what theyโ€™re saying to both ADOR and HYBE. It's become clear now that HYBE and ADOR can no longer meddle with NewJeans, and I think things will flow that way from now on. The fans wonโ€™t stand still either. In entertainment, itโ€™s not about titles like "Iโ€™m the CEO," or "I own shares." These are shallow understandings of what makes the entertainment business work. The real value created in this industry is the love and recognition from the fans. No amount of shares or CEO titles matter when that love disappears in an instant. NewJeans is asking to be left alone, and because of this, the new management of HYBE and ADOR can no longer act. I believe the future will unfold accordingly. One important thing I want to emphasize is that NewJeans is a unique group. Theyโ€™re not just factory-produced idols. The distinctive nature of NewJeansโ€™ music is felt by everyone who listens to them. For example, producer 250, who played a significant role in shaping the NewJeans sound, alongside other talented producers like those from the Banana Culture label, was brought in by CEO Min Hee-jin. This collaboration birthed the unique musical style of NewJeans, which many have come to appreciate. Their latest album, which incorporated elements like New Jack Swing, wasnโ€™t just NewJeans making this musicโ€”it was 250's creative vision, drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s funk, R&B, and American black music, and reinterpreting them. If 250 no longer works with NewJeans, their music might become indistinguishable from other idol groups. The choreography, another element that set NewJeans apart, also contributed to their success. However, with the recent tensions, it's obvious that working with key figures like director Shin Woo-seok, who directed many of NewJeans' music videos, will become difficult moving forward. Director Shin wasnโ€™t even interested in music videos before but was inspired to work with NewJeans after a conversation with Min Hee-jin. If Min Hee-jin and people like director Shin are ousted from ADOR, itโ€™s inevitable that the core assets of NewJeans, including their distinctive musical and visual style, will vanish. This is not just a simple matter of one person being oustedโ€”itโ€™s about losing the core elements that made NewJeans what they are. WE STAND WITH NEWJEANS #๋ฒ„๋‹ˆ์ฆˆ_๋‰ด์ง„์Šค์™€ํ•จ๊ป˜_์ค€๋น„๊ฐˆ์™„๋ฃŒ #๋ฐฉ์‹œํ˜_2์ฃผ์ค€๋‹ค_๋ฏผํฌ์ง„_๋ณต๊ท€์‹œ์ผœ๋ผ

I am the Senior Vice President of Late Night Strategy at CBS. I am the person who turned a comedian into a priest and charged advertisers to watch the congregation. I want to be precise about what I built. Not a comedy show. A permission structure. For eleven years, six million Americans tuned in every night to find out what they were allowed to believe by morning. We didn't sell jokes. We sold certainty. Certainty costs nothing to produce. People will pay anything for it. We charged $50 million a year and still lost money because it turns out permission is even cheaper than we thought. In 2014, we had a genuinely dangerous comedian. A man who once testified before Congress in character as a fictional conservative pundit and made the entire chamber look like they'd been pantsed on C-SPAN. His fake persona was the most brilliant satire on television. Layered. Ironic. Unpredictable. The character could say anything because nothing was real. The character was the art. The character was the comedian. We killed the character and put the real man on stage. The real man was a lecturer. Earnest. Thoughtful. Correct about everything. Correct is not funny. Correct is not dangerous. Correct is the absence of danger. We promoted the absence of danger and called it growth. His character could make a Senate committee squirm. The real him makes an audience nod. Nodding pays the same as squirming. Nodding is easier to produce. His final words on air were "We love doing this show for you, but what we really, really love is doing this show with you." The audience wept. I wrote that line. Not the words. The architecture that made those words feel true. For eleven years, the audience believed they were participants. They were not participants. They were the product. "With you" is what you say to a congregation. A comedian says "at you." We hadn't said "at you" since 2015. Our internal metric was called Affirm Rate. It measured the percentage of monologue segments that generated applause instead of laughter. I invented this metric. I also invented the bonus structure tied to it. In 2015, our Affirm Rate was 34%. By 2022, it was 94%. I received a raise every year. We are crushing it. At the things I made up. That's performance management. But I need to tell you about the real discovery. The one I put in a deck called "Content Strategy 2019-2024." The one that got me promoted. Agreement gets applause. I knew that early. But correction โ€” telling the audience their vocabulary is slightly outdated, their outrage is aimed two degrees off-center, their feelings are valid but their phrasing needs work โ€” correction gets them back tomorrow. Agreement is a transaction. Correction is a subscription. We converted a comedy show into a nightly software update for moral vocabulary. Churn was near zero. They couldn't afford to miss an episode. Missing an episode meant using last week's words in this week's meeting. That's social death. We monetized the fear of social death and called it entertainment. I want to be honest about something. The content was not bipartisan. We chose a side. But I need you to understand: we did not choose it because we believed in it. We chose it because that side's audience is more responsive to correction. They want to be updated. They want to be told their language is outdated. They experience correction as care. The other side does not respond to correction. They respond to provocation. Provocation is harder to monetize. You can't build a subscription on provocation because the audience doesn't come back to learn โ€” they come back to fight. Fighting is unpredictable. Correction is scheduled. We optimized for the audience that wants to be told what to think. That audience leaned one direction. That's not ideology. That's market segmentation. The writers' room had a whiteboard. In 2015 it said "What's funny?" In 2018 it said "What should they feel?" By 2021 it said "What are they still saying wrong?" I watched that whiteboard evolve like a finch beak and I never intervened. The market was speaking. We listened. Listening to the market is the same as leading the audience. They can't tell the difference. A writer named Marcus raised his hand in 2019. "What if we just tried to make them laugh again?" I thanked him for his passion and scheduled a creative alignment conversation. He transferred to streaming development within the month. The Affirm Rate the week he left was 91%. Laughter would have brought it down. That's risk management. Here is what nobody will say out loud. I will say it because I am proud of it. We made our audience worse at politics. Not better. Worse. Every night for eleven years, we expressed their outrage for them. Professionally. With a band and good lighting. And because the outrage had been expressed โ€” because a man in a suit had furrowed his brow with the precise calibrated degree of indignation โ€” they didn't need to express it themselves. They watched. They clapped. They felt the catharsis of resistance without resisting anything. They went to bed having done nothing and feeling like they'd done something. That's the product. Not comedy. Not information. Catharsis. Catharsis is the enemy of action. A man who has screamed into a pillow does not then also scream in the street. We were the pillow. A $50 million pillow with a house band. If you feel the outrage has been expressed for you, you will not march. You will not organize. You will not call your representative. You will tune in tomorrow to feel it expressed again. That's retention. Our retention was extraordinary. I want to talk about the comedy-to-catechism pipeline because I think people underestimate what we achieved. Stage one: comedian makes jokes about the powerful. Audience laughs because the powerful are absurd. This is the Carlin model. The jester punches up. Everyone below feels relief. Stage two: comedian makes jokes about people who disagree with the audience. Audience laughs because disagreement is stupid. The jester has turned around. He's still on the stage but now he's facing the crowd with a pointer. Stage three: comedian stops making jokes. Comedian identifies incorrect beliefs and explains why they're dangerous. Audience does not laugh. Audience claps. The jester is gone. In his place: a hall monitor with a desk and a band. Stage four: audience watches not for entertainment but for certification. Having seen last night's episode means you know which words are current. Not having seen it means you might use yesterday's vocabulary in today's meeting. The show is no longer comedy. It is a credential. Watching it means you are educated. Not watching means you are the person being discussed. We made a show that you watch to prove you're not the kind of person who doesn't watch it. That's a closed loop. Closed loops don't need content. They need continuity. We provided continuity for $50 million a year. A comedian โ€” whose entire historical function was to say things too dangerous for anyone else to say โ€” became the person who decides which things are too dangerous for anyone to say. And the audience applauded. Every night. For 2,500 nights. Because being told what is forbidden feels exactly like being told what you already knew. Prohibition performed as validation. I put that in the deck too. Our audience was correct about everything. I know this because they applauded everything we said. The applause proved the correctness. The correctness justified the applause. We called this audience research. The methodology was peer-reviewed by the audience. They approved unanimously. Every night. The actually funny comedians left. They went to podcasts. To clubs. To rooms where the audience doesn't know what's coming and that uncertainty is the point. They took the laughter with them. We kept the applause. We called those spaces problematic. That's market differentiation. The problematic spaces are funnier. But funny is not our product. We lost $40 million a year. We didn't lose it because the show failed. We lost it because we spent $50 million producing what a podcast host in his garage gives away between mattress ads. The podcast is funnier. The podcast is more dangerous. The podcast has an audience that laughs instead of claps. But we had the Ed Sullivan Theater. We had 461 seats. We had a former Beatle play the farewell episode. Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Jon Batiste, and Louis Cato playing "Hello, Goodbye" like it was a benediction. I booked a Beatle for a funeral. The Beatles played that stage in 1964 and the audience screamed so loud you couldn't hear the music. Our audience didn't scream. They wept politely. That's the difference between entertainment and church. We ran a church. Jon Stewart showed up to the finale and did a bit where he pretended to deliver a corporate statement from Paramount about the cancellation. The audience laughed. It was the first time they laughed in a way I didn't recognize. Involuntary. Surprised. Dangerous. For ninety seconds, a comedian was in that building. Then it was over. John Oliver said "At some point, this may come for all of our shows" and then added "but Stephen, what's important to remember is that tonight, it is going to eat you." The audience laughed again. Involuntary again. Two moments of actual comedy in a three-hour farewell. Both of them about death. The finale drew 6.74 million viewers. Biggest weeknight audience in our history. More people came to the funeral than ever visited the patient. I know what they were mourning. Not comedy. The comedy died in 2016. Not the man. The man is fine. He's wealthy. What they mourned was the permission structure. Starting today, they have to decide what to believe on their own. They have to form an opinion without waiting for a man behind a desk to form it first and deliver it with a knowing look. Some of them haven't done that since 2015. The funeral wasn't for the show. It was for the certainty. He joked about the Peanuts theme music licensing cost on his last night. "Oh no! I hope this doesn't cost CBS any money!" The audience laughed. It was a joke about money. About the network losing money. The last joke was about money. Not about truth. Not about power. About a licensing fee for a cartoon piano riff. Eleven years and the final joke was about accounting. I think that's perfect. The show was always about accounting. We just dressed it up as conscience. The President of the United States โ€” the man we spent eleven years explaining was dangerous to an audience that already believed he was dangerous โ€” posted an AI-generated video of our host being thrown into a dumpster on the Late Show set. Then Trump danced to "YMCA" in the clip. Viewed more times in four hours than our farewell managed in a week. His production cost: zero. Ours: negative $50 million a year. We manufactured his relevance every night at 11:35 for eleven years and he never paid us a dime. We were his marketing department. He turned our funeral into content. His ROI was infinite. Ours required a write-off and a farewell concert. The Strike Force Five โ€” Fallon, Kimmel, Meyers, Oliver โ€” appeared in a segment about late-night losing "one middle-aged white man who makes jokes about the news." They were joking about their own obsolescence. All of them know. None of them will say it. The format is dead. The audience moved to phones. The phones don't have desks or bands. The phones have men in garages who are allowed to be wrong, allowed to be surprised, allowed to say something their audience hasn't already approved. That's comedy. We stopped doing that a decade ago. We did approval. Approval looks like comedy from a distance. Up close it's church. I do not feel guilt. Guilt would require me to believe I took something from them. I didn't take anything. They came to us. Every night. They chose the catechism over the comedy. They preferred correction over surprise. Certainty over danger. Instruction over laughter. They wanted to be told. Not challenged. Not shocked. Not made to laugh against their will at something they didn't see coming. They wanted to see it coming. They wanted to mouth along. That's not comedy. That's karaoke. We ran the most expensive karaoke bar in television history and the only miscalculation was charging a cover when the songs are free on every phone. We turned a jester into a priest. We turned an audience into a congregation. We turned laughter into obedience. We turned political engagement into passive consumption. We turned a comedy show into a permission structure and charged $50 million a year to tell people what they already believed in a voice slightly nicer than their own. They were so grateful they showed up to mourn us. 6.74 million of them. Weeping. For the certainty. Applause is more reliable than laughter. I proved it. The proof cost $450 million, one character, one comedian's capacity for danger, and one audience's willingness to act. The metric went up.
