Hellsing Ultimate has one of my favorite dubs. The performances are solid all around, but with characters like Anderson I love hearing the accents.

dubs would be 100 times coolers if the people behind them weren't afraid to utilize more international accents/va's

I got the abridged version right here

You know its so weird hearing the offical dub version. Not becuase I've watch it in English subtitles but mostly because of Team Four Stars Abridge series. It's finally good to hear the English voice actor of the OVA.

Sorry but I will only watch Team 4Star version....

I think Hellsing works excellent for a dub is because lets be honest, Japanese people can NOT do a Scottish accent

God, I love all the thick accents in this dub. Gives it a "period piece" feel that just totally fits the gothic vampire+over the top aesthetic

They could never make me hate you Seras, no matter what language

Hellsing Ultimate, Baccano, Black Lagoon, FMA Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop are all anime you absolutely should watch dubbed, because they're stellar and in some cases better than the originals, or at least better fitting - Black Lagoon is a great example.

the abridged version is also peak.

Great dub! My favourite dub is Baccano and the best from it imo was Ladd Russo.

"YOU BROUGHT ME A PRESENT?"-Hellsing abridge allucard

@mah0vany Hell yeah! Hellsing really did nail it with the dubs.

I need to rewatch this i really miss old dubs

Anderson is so fucking cool, man. I wish Catholics were real.

"why don't we make this fight interesting" 🫰 🗣️🗣️📢🔥🔥 "ANDERRSONNNN!!"

My rule has always been based on the setting. If I'm watching something take place in Victorian England or some European-esque high fantasy, I'll watch dub. If it's in Japan or a similar fantasy setting I'll do sub. There are exceptions (that are usually based on performances)

What is genuinely the most hilarious part of this to me is the fact that the abridged didn't even really change anything about this scene. lmaooo The original anime really was just that, unhinged with their hate boners.

This, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, FMA Brotherhood and Code Geass are honestly better dubbed than subbed. There's also plenty of good ones, like YuYu Hakusho, InuYasha, DBZ, JJBA, Konosuba and Kaguya Sama...

I could listen to Crispin Freeman read the phonebook. His voice is divine.

"the abridged version" this "the abridged version" that I never watched the abridged version but is that all people talk about goddamn

imo this period in the mid-late 00s was kind of a golden age of dubs, mainly because i grew up with a lot of them but many of them are still really good

English dubs actually utilizing accents is so underrated

Most of the actors were of British descent and theater trained btw.

I want JB Blanc to read me my last rites

Everyone's talking about the TFS Abridged dub and I think it's sad not a lot of people realized the greatness of Hellsing without having to be intro'd to it through TFS. Nothing exactly wrong with that, of course, but the TFS actors did the replication very well of the OG VAs.

Hellsing is the only anime I watch with the English dub. If they were all this good I'd maybe do it more but usually the English VAs can't act for shit though which ruins the whole experience.

Legitimately, this is one of the few shows for which the English dub is better than the Japanese original. Not that the Japanese is bad, the English dub is just that good.

I think the accent they had for the characters is what made this anime so good.

NOT hearing the Abridged Series voices coming out of these characters feels so incredibly strange now.

Elitist sub watching weeb trash are the vegans of the anime community, because they're the only ones pushing that shit while dub watchers just watch. The fucking. Anime.

I think a lot of people are too self-conscious about hearing VAs sound a bit unhinged in a language they understand. By watching the sub they sand down the weirder edges of the work by abstracting the voicework.

Ever since i started watching Hellsing in dub i realised just how accurate the abridged voices are

I could legitimately listen to Anderson be a complete maniac for hours and it still wouldn’t be enough.

wait so you're telling me the fandub was almost completely perfect

I like some of the older dubs because they spoke like real people instead of using "Anime Voice" all the damn time. Sure the older dubs unironically used Senpai while speaking English which felt cringe, but the voices were grounded and I preferred that
