Helluva Boss is probably the first instance of a showrunner successfully gaslighting her general audience into accepting a retcon as the intended canon and chalk up any criticism or anyone pointing said retcon as "ever heard of character development?"

these kinds of scenes in S2 could work as Stolas being so unaware of the harm he has caused he actively denies any sort of accountability, but the show INSISTS that the one who's fully at fault is Blitzø himself and treats Stolas as the "victim" of their whole situationship

Also in episode 2 we see Stolas show regret for cheating on Stella and blame himself for their relationship falling apart. But then it gets retconned that he loudly and proudly proclaimed his affair to her face. The first half of season 1 might as well be a different universe.

playing devil's advocate this could be really powerful material for miscommunication within a relationship but unfortunately the show rather pin all the blame on the rockiness of this relationship on blitzo and never make stolas take accountability for anything

YOU GET ITTTT

Also accepting a retcon where the one with more privilege is somehow the victim and the underprivileged is treated like the bad guy in a blatantly obvious power imbalance dynamic.

I KNOW RIGHT THATS SO FUCKING WEIRD

Like how am I supposed to sit there and hear that fucking bird LIE and say "I never looked down on you!" As if the PREVIOUS EPISODES don't exist?? Like yeah man I too, refer to the "love of my life" as a plaything. That'll definitely make him think I'm in love with him.

EXACTLY

To be fair, the description of apology tour implies that Stolas just isn't aware of the harm he has caused, and his will probably come back in the next season. I do think that this should've been made clear in the actual story though, rather than portraying Stolas as the victim.

How is it a retcon. First of even if we use the original pilot the fact is Blitz attracted Stolas so he could steal the book. Heck I thought this show was going to be one of those work life balance where evil is the job but after work people basically regular which it kind of is.

personally im a huge fan of how stolas had a whole episode showing how he loved his daughter then we don't see them together again for most of the show

same ! its genuinely guttural seeing how much they cared for one another only for him to go out of his way to sleep with a man, its just so messy even when both sides are fully valid [though not quite on Stolas, he could've done something about it]

RIGHT EXACTLY

This is EXACTLY why I hate Stolas bruh

i actually really like the romance in this show but the way it's executed is so terribly, it has so much potential to be well written but it's just gay men being sexualized stolas is supposed to be the bad guy but he's portrayed like a victim despite being just as bad as blitz

wasnt expecting for this post to blow up, hi do you like hearing people screaming at the top of their lungs?

I don't think you know what a retcon is. This is literally just character development. He was overly sexual at the start of the show since it was new, close to the end of the season two he's not as sexual and wants a real relationship after a year and a half of being with Blitz.

Ist the point that he is being a hypocrite? I could have sworn they talked about it even if just briefly

Also Thomas Astruc also gaslighted the audience too, by making a retcon episode about how Marinette has PTSD from the pool (even though she’s been in the pool many times) mainly to justify her being a stalker towards Adrien, by throwing both Chloe and Kim under the bus

What when they went to ozzies he thought blitz wanted to be in a full on romantic relationship and wasn't told otherwise, they just had an issue with being called out the he relooked at the whole relationship, let people have character arcs ffs 😭

can I politely ask you what is it about Blitzø that draws Stolas in romantically, because he always made it blatant that he is sexually attracted to him to the point of fetishising him

Stolas is a sex fiend but it reaches its maximum around episode 6 Cuz after blitz asked him out on a date it went from agreement sex to an actual date, and then after the argument was radio silence with all their feelings festering until the blood moon, /1

With the flashback showing us how alone he's felt dealing with someone who doesn't love him and verbally abuses him, yes he had toxic views, he still does, but we aren't watching four a perfect relationship we are watching four DRAMA without it it's just a hallmark commercial

Like there's a whole dedicated song of stolas realizing his actions were bad and understanding blitz feelings it's all there

Crazy how none of this answers the question

Then you clearly didn't read idk what to tell you

Genuinely so fucking real

if like it was treated as him just being a hypocrite it would work just fine but no they just have to shove it down our throats how sad and lonely the rich man is

I still don't get why they didn't just go back to the older episodes and edit out these moments,???

Stolas’ and blitz’s relationship AND “character development“ are both this

Viv literally tweeted that he's delusional after full moon came out, but okay? A character saying something doesn't equal the writers agreeing with them
