After a trip to Finsbury Park we rode home. To get home we hve to cross the A10. There’s a bike lane but it’s out of operating hrs so cars can park. Safety is a primary reason ppl are put off cycling. Routes like this need to be safe to encourage more switches from 🚗 to 🚲.

Too many residents feel like the current traffic camera system is predatory and prioritizes revenue over safety. That must change. As I’ve said, cameras should exist to save lives, not to place a financial burden on working families. My plan is straightforward: redesign dangerous roads, align street design with safe driving speeds, and focus enforcement where it actually prevents crashes. Today at San Francisco County Transportation Authority, we voted to make District 5 the first fully daylighted district in San Francisco by March 2026. What is daylighting? Daylighting removes parking near crosswalks to improve visibility at intersections—making streets safer for everyone. It’s a proven safety measure: in Hoboken, New Jersey, daylighting helped reduce pedestrian injuries and contributed to zero traffic deaths over seven years. Right now, many intersections in District 5 don’t meet state standards—they’re only marked at 10 feet. This funding will help bring us into compliance and move us closer to our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries.

How does GPT-5 become GPT-6? Everything on the internet was already trained on a year, year and a half ago. New data is being added but it's marginal and a lot of it is AI slop. There is interesting private data (like JP Morgan's data) but nobody is opening that up. You don't go from GPT-5 to GPT-6 in isolation because that's not how learning works. Every learning that has ever occurred comes from having information to learn. You can't learn no information. cc Ground Zero / pod with Curtis from Handshake AI.

I am relaxed about whatever happens between China and the US. Sad as it is for me personally, it's them, not us, who are the world's biggest economies. People overestimate the importance of economy - it's a matter of living a bit better or worse from year to year. But there are also currently questions if we get to live at all. Periods are natural. Stigma is not. If a girl misses school because there are no sanitary pads, no water and no privacy, it is not her personal problem. It is our collective failure. We live in a country where alcohol and cigarettes are sold openly, but sanitary pads are still wrapped in newspaper as if they must be hidden. Somewhere along the way, society turned a biological fact into a social taboo. A matter of science has been turned into a matter of silence. Menstrual hygiene is not charity. It is not a favour. It is not a side issue. It is a matter of health, education and equality. Above all, it is a matter of dignity. Raised this issue in Parliament today because it affects over 35 crore women and girls in India. A nation cannot call itself truly progressive if millions of girls still face fear, shame and silence for something so basic. The real test of progress is simple. The day every girl in India can go to school, live with dignity and speak about this without stigma, that will be the day we can truly say our society has moved forward.

Donald Hoffman: "Embodied consciousness like ours has a probability of zero." This is a new finding from the MIT trained cognitive scientist. The normal state of consciousness is not embodied. In the mathematics it registers as measure zero with a probability of zero. Hoffman told Jesse Michels the human condition as the worst possible interface. We are like a marathon runner with weights as well as terrible shoes and a backpack. We cannot move a cup with intention alone. We move our fingers toes and arms and from that narrow channel we have to scheme our way to doing anything physical. It feels low bandwidth and high latency. It is sort of like you can play the game of consciousness and move things around but you remain so restricted. This view dovetails with a lot of religious stories around the fall of man. The ideas open up profound questions about the true nature of reality and our place in it.
