I am all for bike lanes. When and where necessary. But in New Orleans, eliminating a lane for vehicular traffic to make it a bike lane when there’s no cyclists is crazy. Like Baronne Street downtown or Gentilly Boulevard, Marconi has this ridiculous set up where a lane of traffic is lost to a bike lane with no cyclists.

On Bike to Wherever Day this year, Mayor London Breed said she’d direct SFMTA to install a protected bike lane on Goodlett Place in front of City Hall, an obvious gap in the network where parking was prioritized over safety. That bike lane is now BUILT! We love to see it.

Toronto is ranked one of the world’s most congested cities. Too many drivers across Ontario are stuck in gridlock for hours every day and bike lanes are making things worse. That’s why we are introducing legislation that would require cities to get provincial approval for any new bike lanes that require removing a lane of traffic. Two-way bike lanes are a great way to start off a bike network because they work pretty well and only take up about one car lane of space. But at higher volumes they can get congested and have conflicts, which is especially a problem on hills.
