I never knew you used Magicavoxel. Seeing this opened up a giant world of ideas I didn't know were possible with the program. Now I think I can finally start making a game I've been wanting to make for 10+ years. Thank you so very much for making this post. ❤️

I’ve had quite a few people ask about how I use the black and white underpainting in my process. Here’s a short timelapse video showing part of the color pas over ‘Chrysalis’. I don’t always use an underpainting, but when I do, I use it to work out the overall values and lighting…especially useful when large areas of the painting are invented…such as the entire background and landscape of this painting. Then I make the color pass in pass in opaque oil and use the underpainting as a value guide…free to focus entirely on the color.
