The upcoming storm system is eerily reminiscent of March of 1995. A snow-moving occluded front strengthened by a 130-knot plus westerly jet stream flowing across the Pacific will be centered over the Central Coast tonight into Friday. This condition will create an Atmospheric River (AR) that will produce moderate gale-force to fresh gale-force (32 to 46 mph with gusts to 55 mph) southerly winds and continuous moderate to heavy rain over a 24-hour period. NOAA’s HRRR (High Resolution Rapid Refresh) model indicates between 3 and 5 inches of rain for most of the coastal and inland valleys; however, orographic enhancement due to the southerly gales will produce between 5 and 10 increase of rain along many of the southerly facing slopes, such as portions of the Cuesta Grade. The Santa Lucia Mountains above Morro Bay, Cayucas, Cambria, San Simeon, and Big Sur could see over 15 inches of rainfall. Scattered rain showers will develop on Saturday, ending on Sunday into Monday. Another storm system is forecast to produce additional rain on Tuesday into Wednesday. At this time, between 2 and 4 inches.

Near the monument to Uladzimir Karatkevich in Kyiv, I saw the building of the Belarusian embassy. Empty, neglected, overgrown with grass. It is difficult to imagine a more painful symbol of what Lukashenka’s regime has done to relations between Belarus and Ukraine. The regime betrayed the true interests of the Belarusian people and destroyed the natural friendship between our nations in order to serve the Kremlin’s ambitions. But this is not forever. We will return Belarus — European, free, and independent. And this embassy will once again become a place of cooperation, respect, and good neighborliness between Belarusians and Ukrainians.
