@ChicagoBears Just kills me when we compare to rookie QBs to HOF’ers. Jesus Caleb struggled in OTA. Just slow down and give the kid a chance. He might be great or, and there’s a really good chance, he’s just another guy.

It’s insane!! But deep ball playmaking isn’t new to Chicago. Nor is it the focal point of Ben Johnson’s offense. If the Bears are going to be great, we have to become more efficient from the pocket. Let’s make that the focal point.. #3 Ben Johnson needs a point guard at QB Efficiency in the pocket, time to throw, and passing EPA are far more important to Ben Johnson’s offense than out of pocket deep balls. I have finally come to the conclusion that the Bears will draft Caleb Williams, arguably the highest upside in a QB since Luck. But then I started seeing legit buzz on a QB I have watched the least. In my head, JJ McCarthy was average and there is no way he is going top 10. I couldn’t be anymore wrong than that. I am hearing he is going top 4 folks, and some believe he could go top 3. I won’t pretend like I have been high on McCarthy, but when I started watching his film, I was surprised at his poise, footwork, arm talent, and athleticism. He plays the game like a pro QB. This guy looks like a grown man playing QB among boys. But, I was puzzled at his lack of production. One thing I am learning when evaluating QBs is the fact that traits weigh just as heavily as production. Teams must factor in what a player is tasked to do and what a player is capable of doing. Harbaugh has coached JJ to play as efficient as possible. He plays far beyond his age and his game should easily translate to the pros. He has the arm talent to throw deep bombs, the athleticism to be complete dual threat QB, and the discernment to make the best use of his talents. He is efficient in managing a game and keeping the sticks moving. Point blank, this guy doesn’t give a damn about personal accolades or the spotlight. He is just a winner. He is tough as nails mentally and physically (he puts extra focus into mental health). He has that “IT” factor where teammates and coaches just believe in his will to win. He won 2 state championships at Nazareth Academy in Chicago and 1 at IMG academy. He led the Wolverines to an undefeated record and national championship. He is a hometown kid coached by a former Chicago Bears QB. Simply put, This is not a guy to overlook folks. He probably wants to be a Chicago Bear far more than any other player in this draft. Back in September, I tweeted out asking if Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson was the most slept on QB in this draft class and with a thinned out crop, he's probably going to be a Top 5 QB in this draft class for me when my big board drops. 6’4, 225 lbs., an arm that oozes talent displaying good touch on deep balls and with the ability to layer the ball over second level defenders. He can drive the ball real well with great velocity, make throws off platform and really, can threaten all three levels. I think he doesn’t get enough credit for his pocket presence and overall feel for it plus he’s mobile enough to create out of structure. Robertson does need to be more consistent with his accuracy and I think that starts with him needing to be coached up mechanically because you see the baseball background impact his lower and upper body mechanics at times on tape. But if you’re talking about taking a Day 3 flier on a QB who you can develop and isn’t expected to start immediately, Robertson fits the bill as one of a few intriguing options in this draft. #PhinsUp

Taylen Green is someone I’ve talked about all season on Phinside The NFL as an option for the Miami Dolphins outside of day one of the 2026 NFL Draft if they want to bet on traits and development. Now with Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley in the building, who both come from a storied franchise of drafting QBs with traits that need proper development and grooming, you have to wonder if they’d be more willing to take a shot on someone like Taylen Green than others. Green is as a fun as he is downright frustrating at times to watch. The traits are undeniable - excellent athlete, prototypical size, absolute cannon for an arm and is downright dangerous when he creates with his legs. Where he needs a ton of work is from the pocket. He needs to become a quicker processor, the accuracy and placement needs to become much more consistent, his decision making does need improvement too, basically consistency will be a big thing for a staff to get out of Green at the next level. That said, he easily has one of the highest ceilings in this QB class and I expect him to rise up boards after his combine showing. #PhinsUp

If he doesn’t I’m not sure it is completed but it has a much better chance to be a TD. Williams cocked his arm, but hesitated and “thought better of it.” Plus, he had a backside target #2 D.J. In the end, the overwhelming urge for Williams to play hero ball again and do something more than just take what was there cost him and his team. Whether it was selfishness and/or fear of missing Loveland and not trusting his 57.9% arm, or a combination of both can be debated, but what can’t be debated is this right here embodies why Caleb Williams is NOT IT in Chicago, ironically in the city where another athlete lived to take the shot. Yes, Caleb Williams is a bust. They invested in finding the right coaches. I see the rebuild of Detroit Lions in the Jets with a QB that is only going to get better. Once the Jets fully buy in to Justin Fields through long term extension and capitalize on the mistake made by the Steelers and the Bears, I see the Jets being consistent playoff contenders as early as next year. Justin Fields matured a lot quicker than a lot of young QBs due to adversity. But because of his upbringing and faith in Christ, he will become a hall of fame Qb.
