I think I’m the only one who doesn’t want speed control back? Why? It adds another manual input that for me, isn’t needed. Like you, I’m a Waze user. But unlike you, I use Mad Max almost exclusively. For me, Mad Max rarely camps because it is actively calculating an optimum path passing slower traffic. But in the off chance it does camp, I use the blinker and it moves over. If Waze tells me there’s a cop ahead, I scroll to Chill and the car slows to the speed limit. I don’t need a third input. When I had speed control in prior builds, I was constantly adjusting it. That equated to me driving by remote control, and I believe that defeats the purpose of letting the car use its brain to determine what’s safest and best without me putting a hard deck on it.

@Tesla_AI True

I still think they should remove the cheesy names and do a 1-11 "volume control style" speed control. 'Hurry' to everyone is different. For me it could be level 8. For you 9. For my mom 5. This was also you'd essentially have 20 speeds to choose from filling in the gaps between current profiles. Just like volume you wouldn't worry about the exact number. Your ears and brain tell you what the right level is and you react. But ALSO use the left and right wheel click for assertiveness (acceleration, lane changing behavior, etc). In general I would probably use 2/3 assertiveness and 8/11 speed. Going a little too fast? Just roll down speed wheel a few clicks. Want to stay in right lane? Lower assertiveness to 1/3. @DrKnowItAll16

Yea, agreed. While there is a human in the loop, I really need to be able to control preferences like left lane camping and max speed per profile. Totally get that their trying to just manage it globally, but they're also not paying for my ticket in hurry mode if I happen to get an officer having a bad day.

FINALLY! I am so glad that you made this post!!! I would say, was about time! 😉. In chill mode yesterday in an 18 mph zone., I was going at 30 mph! Speed profile are not working plain and simple! If I am in Mad Max profile, it doesn’t mean that I want to go over than 20% of the speed limit. So yes, please bring back the speed control. and the car is definitely doing a VIP stop so give us control aggressive stop or VIP mode.

Chuck, I much prefer the discrete modes of Chill, Standard, Hurry, Mad Max, and Sloth. One or two thumb clicks and I’m right where I want to be (76 → 70 on a 70 limit is instant). Percentage offsets demand endless dialing. The old system was worse: new speed-limit sign and it resets, forcing you to re-dial every time. Modes let you instantly override Tesla’s chosen behavior when you don’t like it. And fixed % can’t adapt to traffic flow the way the modes do. Set +5 % on a 25-mph limit while everyone else is doing 40 and you’re the rolling roadblock. Modes + real traffic adaptation are a vast improvement....for supervised....yes we still interact and it helps that I do have to engage that way on long road trips.

@Tesla_AI Good points you make, but I think I disagree a bit. Switching between modes does not directly control the speed as much as it changes the behavior. I definitely cannot get it to speed up when switching to a higher mode until it thinks about it for a while.

@Tesla_AI Your second point is true...I nudge the accelerator briefly to get it up to speed in that senario... a work in progress.

@Tesla_AI This is why Autopilot is still superior to FSD for highway cruising. Need speed control for supervised

I’ve gotten 2 speeding tickets because I wasn’t paying attention to speed zones and neither was fsd. I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket in 20 years until Tesla fails to recognize a drop from 45 to 30 and tries to go 50 in it. Totally unacceptable and easily fixable by bringing back max speed. I had no issues until they took that away.

One thing I finally figured out today on 14.3.7 is the camping behavior. If the highway is 3 lanes wide on standard it will camp in the middle lane. It will pass and then get back over. But we have a part of I-70 that goes down to 2 lanes and in standard it was camping at 5mph over in the left lane to the point where I got passed on the right today. 😭

Absolutely spot on Chuck! Please keep harping on this point! I have been a beta driver for four years now… As impressed as I am with each point update I am still constantly disappointed with this issue. Forgiven me, but her comes a short rant: Look… many small towns are very proud and protective of the safety in our downtown district and neighborhoods, and thus set the speed at 25 mph - or even 15mph you will see in military base housing areas (5mph with children present!) … and that trust in safety gets delegated to law enforcement. Inability to set such speed in such situations eliminates the impression of the autonomous vehicle safety to the mass public. Getting a ticket for going 32 in a 25 is unacceptable when driving in standard mode through a quiet downtown district. And … the issuing officer likely (and shouldn’t) accept the excuse “my fsd was controlling the speed.” @tesla … please (1) return the ability to fine control speed in fsd and… perhaps MORE importantly (2) incorporate the location of such adjustments to default speeds - just as is done with suspension adjustments in many of our fine vehicles. .

It would be great to be able to set the max speed for each profile. In Alberta, if you go more than 9km over, you can get a photo radar ticket, except school zones where you can't go more than 33km/h in a 30km/h. It's different everywhere so it would be good if Tesla had settings for different instances.

@Tesla_AI Like I said a year ago, separate assertiveness from speed control.

@Tesla_AI 1 last addition to the summer update 🙏

Agree, but what I really want is a combination of speed profiles and what we had prior to the advent of speed profiles. I would love to have the ability to set a max “% above speed limit” that FSD would not override unless it was faced with a critical/safety situation. That max for me was 15%. If I remember correctly, you could only use increments of 5, so that was the closest to perfect I could get it. It kept my speed under 18mph in 15 mph school zones and around 10 mph over the limit at highway speeds. I know to each its own, but that was almost perfect for me and it made sense for most people to be able to set a relative or absolute max over the speed limit. I posted about this back in November

@Tesla_AI YES! 100%.

I don’t know if you have this in Florida but in DFW we have suburban roads that have 2 lanes each direction, houses but no driveways (they have them via alley access behind the houses). On these streets, curbside parking is common in the right lane, and so staying in the left lane is most sensible choice. Otherwise you’re going back and forth between lanes to go around the parked cars. It’s common sense to any human. But FSD refuses to go into the left lane. Even if I use the left turn signal, it thinks about it and then cancels it. So we risk coming over a hill or around a curve at 38mph in a 35 zone and rear ending a parked car. It’s this kind of stuff that keeps me at about 95% FSD and not 99%.

@Tesla_AI But did it pass the chain test?!

@Tesla_AI 💯 agree. The profiles are the biggest limiter along with the accuracy of speed limits in certain areas. Having speed control back would be amazing.

@Tesla_AI Well said. FSD is not unsupervised and it's not good enough to take Speed Profiles and Speed Control away. It only gives bad impressions to people who are not familiar with FSD.

@Tesla_AI 💯🎯

why does Tesla force us to stop at stop signs and no other option, but when it comes to highway driving we have speed profiles that can get me thrown in jail for going so fast? I agree that speed profiles right now need the most work. Navigation and parking lots a close second.

@Tesla_AI NHTSA

@Tesla_AI Understand but there is no other DOT agency that says going 25mph over the speed limit is also illegal? My point is why allow people to break some laws but not others? If I’m speeding in FSD, I get a ticket and responsible. What’s the difference with going through a stop sign?

In early 2022, Tesla’s FSD included an optional “rolling stop” function. NHTSA objected and forced Tesla to remove it. Why don’t you give your brilliant ideas to NHTSA (regarding Tesla driver profiles going 25mph over)? They would be more than happy to force Tesla to ban all driver profiles except maybe Sloth.

@ChuckCook @Tesla_AI How is it any different than setting cruise control to go 85mph on any other car?

@pardus87 @ChuckCook @Tesla_AI Because it's not the driver setting it.

@pardus87 @ChuckCook @Tesla_AI Then who is setting FSD to go from sloth to standard to hurry and to mad max?

I know tesla already confirmed that voice input navigation is in the works, but these are exactly the cases that could allow profiles to go away or be fined tuned per user preferences. Users could be in Hurry and "stay out of the left lane or slow down" to have FSD take that input based on on the traffic situation it is seeing. "Slow down" means one thing when the road isn't great and another when FSD is the fastest vehicle in the highway

@Tesla_AI If it’s fsd SUPERVISED it needs speed control. What one person is comfortable with is going to be different than another person.

@Tesla_AI Thank you Chuck!!!

@Tesla_AI I’m still shocked how my car will tell me there’s a speed camera ahead, yet continue to speed 😂. I don’t care what profile I’m in, if there’s a speed camera ahead, override the profile and don’t go over the limit.

@Tesla_AI 100% correct, Ashok needs to listen to feedback, or at least acknowledge the short coming.

@Tesla_AI As soon as wr can have grok control the car. Game over. Control speed, lane choosing, parking, avoid potholes....you just tell it what you want. How long before that happens?

@Tesla_AI Preach it. I love mad max and its aggressiveness. But the speed is out of control.

YES completely agree with @ChuckCook bottom line is not only ticket but it is our insurance as well. If an accident occurs it is still my insurance and my pocket on the line and doing more than 10 over the posted speed could cause problems with license too. There is no reason for standard to be doing over 70 in a 55. Chill only doing 3 over the speed limit is too slow and impedes traffic. Most traffic in my area does 60 to 65 in 55 zone and that is where standard should be. Please give us the ability to set our own offset per mode.

@Tesla_AI Tesla believes we are children incapable of selecting our own speed, so they'll do it for us because they know best, and even worse, there are tesla fans out there that agree

@Tesla_AI User speed control would itself be very useful i out data for Tesla, every time you change the max speed it’s more input data to teach the model where to slow down / increase speed. Kinda obvious no ?

@JoeTegtmeyer @Tesla_AI

@Tesla_AI My cybertruck won’t reach surface street speed unless madmax is on, that’s seems crazy.

@Tesla_AI Chuck Honestly, you are the most truthful person talking about FSD thank you 👍👍👍

@Tesla_AI It’s against the law to camp in the left lane. Therefore it shouldn’t camp the left lane
