El Salvador got Temporary Protected Status in 2001 after an earthquake. That was 25 YEARS ago. The "T" in TPS stands for TEMPORARY. Today, Bukele's El Salvador is the safest country in the hemisphere. They literally put it in tourism ads. A local NBC station is already running sob stories about 170,000 Salvadorans whose "temporary" status expires Sept. 9, and Democrats are already pushing a "permanent residence pathway." That tells you everything: It was never supposed to be temporary. It was always amnesty on layaway. DHS is right to let it expire. A home bought on a 25-year-old emergency waiver doesn't make the waiver permanent.
