For the blender users out there you can achieve preserve uv via edge slide / vertex slide and checking in Correct UVs property. Or via a UV project modifier and linking it to a flat plane with the texture on it. Personally I like the 2nd option a bit more.

this is awesome and how I did foliage for my game, but I'm curious why you created geometry that fit to the shape of the textures and not simply use two planes. Is it for animating in a vertex shader?

Great question! Here's 3 reason to add divisions: 1. Reduce Alpha overdraw which can be heavier on perfs than some extra faces 2. Allows for vertex shader animation for wind and player bending 3. Necessary if the plant is curved (Adjusting the depth makes the 2 stems connect)
