Here’s a video I made breaking down this very impressive Chest X-Ray from the ER #FOAMed

I've had 12 collapsed lungs & I would usually walk myself into the ER & tell them I had crepitus & was pretty sure it was a pneumo, & almost every time I was blown off & told it was impossible to walk in if I had a true pneumo. Ended up needing pleurodesis in both lungs.

Wow! Definitely not uncommon to walk in to the ER with a pneumo, but with a tension pneumo is definitely less common. Glad you ended up OK Elexa!

Thank you! If doctors did this for their patients, it would be very helpful. It’s very difficult to remember what you’re told when you’re sitting on the exam table or chair. It’s almost like the teacher lecturing Charlie Brown.

Haha yeah I show my patients their films and go through ‘em with them often. I think it really helps them see and understand exactly what is going on.

in a smoker, is a pig tail the best intervention? we are discussing a patient with significant risk for cancer and malignant bleed. imo, humble opinion, this should be a surgical tube. i love your case presentation. thank you for your energy dedicated to us discussing

I don’t think there is a need to put in anything larger than a pigtail catheter for solely a pneumothorax these days. So no need for an open chest tube. In fact some of the trauma guys will argue that pigtails suffice for many hemopneumothroraces as well!
