Kenya's Equity Group has revived plans to venture into Mozambique. Equity's Dr. James Mwangi says he has secured an appointment towards this on April 27th following President William Ruto's intervention during the latest visit by Mozambique's President. Equity previously pursued market entry into Mozambique through acquisition of the banking businesses of Atlas Mara, before calling off the discussions on June 23rd, 2020 in the wake of COVID19. Angling for Mozambique signals strong Southern African leaning given that Equity is also pursuing entry into Angola.

So the sacrifices that shareholders made during the transformation period of only taking 30% and retaining 70% has paid and will pay perpetually because the subsidiaries they funded are now joining Kenya in paying dividends by next year And that is when the story of Equity will really be understood because it will be cash in the pocket for investors. It is not a story of growth, it will be growth of dividends every year.”
