You're still trusting that the seedsigner is using your dice inputs correctly which is just as bad as trusting CC's entropy. What you should really be doing is at the very least is inputting the dice rolls into two separate hardware wallets from different vendors to ensure.

To illustrate (also seedsigner is open source)

@FirstDeviation CoinKite also has a simple for this. You could run on an airgapped machine instead of buying a separate wallet. It's simpler than the iancoleman tool. Also in principle there are different ways of mapping rolls to bits, diff hww may not agree

@FirstDeviation Separate machine introduces Separate risk profiles. Especially if you plan to use it for non bitcoin stuff later...you dont want to mix the security profiles like that if possible (dont create or let seeds touch a computer you use for general stuff).

I also had a search on YT for a dice roll video, but not because I did not know how to do it (SeedSigner makes it easy) but WHAT the dice rolls actually represent or perform in the Seed Phrase generation process. That explanation seems to be missing, yet I'm sure I've seen or read it somewhere.

@BTC200Kgang We're basically creating strings of 1's and 0's and then translating those numbers to the indexed bip39 word list. So you're generating the first 11 words numerically...

Shake the dice for a bit longer, and in a large cup. The way you did it produces dependency between each throw.

@BTCsessions I use the Entropia seeds instead of dice rolls to create my seed phrase with seedsigner. Feels mega random but I don’t know if it’s as random as your method. Would love to know which has more randomness (although maybe same-same?).

@BTCsessions They’re really fun to shake around and pick words out of. I think about what the absolutely most random way I could possibly pick a word out of my big jar could be… then I laugh at myself for overthinking.

What is the fingerprint in the end

The fingerprint is like an identifier for that seed. So you know when you see that exact fingerprint, it represents that exact seed. So when I turn off the seedsigner it wipes the device. When I power it back on and load the seed, it shows the fingerprint to let me know if didn't make any mistakes entering the seed. Always save the fingerprint.

@8na3marwan @MicroSeed_io Thank you for your response, let me be clearer. At the end, during the last 30 secs, you get to this got underneath the fingerprint, starting with 22a. That's secured/saved/stamped differently, I suppose. Also not sure I fully grasp what it's for, if you have your 12-24 words.

I'm still not clear, but i will keep working with you - The 22a string IS the fingerprint, and I personally would suggest just stamping it into your seedplate - many commercial plates have a space for that already, and with microseed, you just fit it in after the 12/24 words on the same washer. Store together IMO.

In case anyone is wondering "why the dice, why dont I just pick a random number 1 through 6 over and over" Because the human brain has biases. Those biases shrink the effective search space an attacker would need to explore. Even small, hard-to-notice patterns can matter when the goal is cryptographic security. Inability to produce a uniform distribution over many independent trials. Psychological research on random-number generation consistently shows humans produce sequences that are statistically distinguishable from true randomness and have lower entropy than claimed.

do you have to load the 12 words back into the seed signer every time you want to spend?

Yes.

But it has a very intuitive entry and is super quick. Under 60 seconds to type in a 12 word seed. You never need to type more than 4 characters in any word.

Just for clarification, you are using this method to come up with your own 12 word seed phrase? After doing this you can use phrase for any other hardware wallet you choose (Blockstream Jade, Tangem, etc.) to move funds there?

Yes exactly. Once you have the seed you can use it in any device. The device shown will be able to help you spend and receive over airgap, so its like a hardware wallet, but it wipes the seed as soon as you power it off, so you store the seed material safely

That SeedSigner is bigger than what I'm using (Pi nano). Do you have a regular size Pi in there? If so, can you share the screen and case you are using? I like it!

It is using the new larger seedsigner plus "hat" that fits into a pi, and I got them @btc_hardware . The case is a custom design that im still kinda working on.
