@TheRocSupremacy Was Just Blaze signed with the Roc? That might had something to do with it. But maybe Jay Z like the way Just does his sample music beats more than Kayne

Both were managed by Roc. They were their in house producers. And Jay always had great chemistry with both. The fuck nigga just became a much bigger name because he was also an amazing artist. But TO ME and many others, Just Blaze is a better producer and made better records with Jay.

Next up, letter U: “U Don’t Know” #JayZ30 #JayZ Just Blaze: “I remember when I started the first version of ‘U Don't Know’ ... I just knew it had the potential to be something explosive. When Jay first did his rhyme, I’m like, ‘Alright, this is cool.’ But what really set that record off, for me at least, was when I added the [mimics the piano keys] at the very beginning. He does ‘turn my music high’ … it was just the perfect setup to a great record.” The producer added: “...If you notice, there's a start and stop with his [Jay-Z] rhymes, and the reason that is, is because he did the first verse and then he left it there. ...Every day he would come in to refine and work on a new idea. That was like his gym music, so he would listen, add another 8-to-16 bars, and then pull up the next record. ...That was basically the record [‘U Don't Know’] that would get him hype to record every day, which is why it goes on for as long as it does ‘cause he’s thinking of more rhymes...”

Perfect time to share this clip given some of the recent topics of conversation going on in hip-hop. - Rappers who lack substance in their music. - Jay-Z re-releasing “Dead Presidents” on its 30th anniversary. One of the best scenes from “Fade To Black” finds Jay at Baseline Studios working on “The Black Album” and having a conversation with Q-Tip, Young Guru, and others. The topic of conversation is, should rappers rap about the reality of what goes on in the environments they come from? Or should they ignore it and rap about what’s selling and being pushed by the music industry? Jay & Guru highlight that rappers are scared to be themselves in fear of not being accepted by the public. Jay then goes on to recite a few bars off “Dead Presidents” stating that his lyrics, for better or worse, are based on his real life experiences. The clip then cuts to Jay in the booth recording “December 4th” and in walks his mother, Mrs. Gloria Carter, who is greeted by Jay’s best friend and partner, Ty-Ty. She is there on her birthday to record vocals for the track. A perfect example of what makes Jay-Z the greatest rapper ever. His music has always been based on honesty, regardless of the subject matter or the type of record, he always raps about his real life. And his music has the perfect balance of having substance without coming off as preachy, and still making records that could appeal to any audience.

Next up, letter P: “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” #JayZ30 #JayZ Just Blaze (Producer): “I made the ‘PSA’ beat in the headphones while the engineer was mixing whatever record we were working on. I made the beat in like 10 minutes. ...The next day, Jay is doing listening sessions for the press for ‘The Black Album.’ ...He would come in, drop four bars, do another press run. Come back in, drop four more bars, do a press run. Come back in, scrap the first eight bars and just give a whole new eight bars and add four more bars and go do another press run, which means as he’s doing press, he’s thinking about this beat in the back of his mind, and coming up with the song.” “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” was the very last track recorded — created just one day before Lenny S and Young Guru brought ‘The Black Album’ to Tony Dawsey for mastering. Below is footage of the recording session that didn’t make the final cut of 2004’ ‘Fade to Black’ doc. It depicts how chaotic and stressful things were as everyone, including Young Guru and former Def Jam A&R director Darcell Lawrence, worked to meet deadlines, resolve a sampling issue, and finish the album.

Today is the final day of Jay Cook's tenure at Jersey Sports Zone. Over the past seven years, Jay has been one of New Jersey's most influential journalists with his storytelling and incredible eye for shining the spotlight on countless athletes around the state. We are sad to see Jay leave us and wish him and his family the best in the future. JSZ will work hard every day to maintain the standard that Jay created in covering high school sports in New Jersey. Jay Cook's tribute reel could be a few hours but here's just a small sample of the impact he had at Jersey Sports Zone Jay Cook

A Public Apology To His Wife 8 years ago today, 6.30.17 JAY-Z called the title track “4:44” the most uncomfortable song he ever made. NO ID said when he heard the verses Jay laid, he went outside and took a walk with his wife just to tell her he appreciated her. The song is 4 minutes & 44 seconds long, and Jay texted NO ID at 4:44 AM to tell him the song was done. Which is how they came up with album title.

The original version of "Flex" by Playboi Carti uses the same sample as his song "Pitstop" being "Uwa!! So Holiday". And the final version even uses a legally distinct version of the sample.

On this date in 1988, in a hotel room mid BAD World Tour, Michael hit record on a tape machine and captured his “Earth Song” demo then called “What About Us.” This raw piano demo recorded for Dangerous held back until HIStory. The finished version of “Earth Song” is monumental, this version before the choir and the stadiums is just MJ and a piano asking the question first with the same cry in his voice. He knew it wasn’t ready so he waited, seven years later the planet heard the Environmental anthem.

I’ve never understood the confusion behind this record. Jay loved “good kid, m.A.A.d city” and the original “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” He was inspired by Kendrick’s work. Recorded a verse, had Guru send the verse over to TDE. And during a studio session for ScHoolboy Q’s “Oxymoron” Kendrick came over and they surprised him with Jay’s verse. Kendrick then recorded two verses of his own and they put the record out as a remix. The end. They weren’t sparring. Kendrick had two verses. Jay had one. Kendrick recorded both of his verses after hearing Jay’s. Jay didn’t have that luxury. Nobody got “bodied.” Just enjoy the fucking music, man. I just want them to collaborate again. It’s long overdue. And now would be a perfect time for it.

We are seeing a lot of confusion about "Body to Body", so just to clear things up: Yoongi and Namjoon were not against using the Arirang sample. What they had concerns about was how it was layered in the track. In the earlier version, the sample was much louder and overlapped with the vocals, which made it overwhelming for listeners. The final version we got is different, with the sample more subtly blended into the background. So, to be clear, they were not against the Arirang sample itself. The version we hear today reflects adjustments made after those initial concerns were raised.

THIS IS FALSE!!!! “Feelin’ It” was NEVER a Camp Lo record and Jay never got it in exchange for “Luchini.” It was originally a Ski SOLO record featuring Geechi Suede from Camp Lo and Mecca on the hook. Ski had a verse and wrote the hook. He played it for Jay and Jay wanted it for “Reasonable Doubt.” He offered to buy it and also asked for Ski’s blessing to use his flow on parts of the song. Ski accepted the offer, Jay wrote 3 new verses and kept Mecca on the hook.

Just Blaze is a top 5 hip hop producer & I’m dying on that hill. He was 1 of JAY-Z’s superpowers at his peak. For the longest time I thought it was a woman singing on “Song Cry”, but Just Blaze made it sound like that. The actual voice is a man named Bobby Glen.

Next up, letter C: “Can I Live” #JayZ30 #JayZ Irv Gotti (R.I.P.): “I wanted to add something great to the album ... that people could identify with. When we did the record, I was like, ‘Yeah, this sounds different, and it's a feeling. You spitting.’ This is Jay the hustler; this is his persona ...” Jay-Z: “I didn't have the idea to make a song ‘Can I Live.’ Listening to the strings and the tracks ... brought out that type of mentality and ... where my thinking was at the time. The strings on that was ... mindblowing.” Jay explains the meaning behind some of the lyrics and entendres, describing a hustler's emotions and how his environment and living conditions shaped his risk-taking. Irv then draws parallels between Jay-Z (and those who grew up like him) and the tagline from the 1983 film ‘Scarface’: “He loved the American Dream. With a vengeance.”
