Here's a copy/paste prompt recipe and vid showing exactly how to ask an LLM for an interactive map with satellite/map layers + a georeferencer that lets you see how old maps correspond with modern geography. Today the computer can’t make good print maps (that's your hill to climb ) but it can, with five bucks and twenty minutes, make good interactive maps. No software/GIS knowledge necessary, you just need a few nouns and an LLM. Scroll to the bottom for the repo/live map if you want those. I'm using Claude Code as an extension in VS Code but you can use the Claude CLI, Cursor, whatever. 1) Let's grab an old cadastral map and see who owned big tracts of a city; I found this an 1854 map of Niagara Falls, NY I found in the Library of Congress: , grabbed the .jp2, saved as a jpg from photoshop. 2) Let's ask Claude Code for a map. You can see exactly what I did in the video but my prompt, sans simple "hey it's busted" debugging, is written out in the following paragraphs. I explain the map-specific nouns in brackets. You can likely dump this whole thing in your LLM window and it'll work; I'd try plan mode + skip permissions. THE PROMPT Make an interactive map with MapLibre GL JS [maplibre is a javascript mapping library, a FOSS version of Mapbox GL JS. This lets us display tiled map data and arbitrary images on the map] Add basemap toggles with Esri satellite, Carto Positron, and OSM [these map layers require no API keys for light usage; Carto Positron is a nice road map layer and OSM is ugly but comprehensive] Add a globe/mercator projection toggle [I think the globe looks better at low zooms] Add a layer panel on the left with visibility checkboxes and delete buttons. Add a search box on the map that flies to results, with deletable pin markers [Makes this easy to get to your area of interest] Include an interactive local georeferencer: drop a JPG, pick ground control points on a zoomable/pannable image viewer, place them on the map, watch it warp with a progress bar centered on the map. [The georeferencer uses math ("affine transform"??) to match points on the old map to points on the new map; generally you click road intersections on the old map, match them on the new map, repeat a dozen times and everything aligns] The georeferenced map overlay defaults to 25% opacity with a slider above the control point list. [I want it easy to see the underlying modern geography] Add Export/import control point buttons [this saves the control points as a JSON so you can save and reimport your work] Add a button to export the warped image as a GeoTIFF with a .prj [In case you want to add the georeferenced image to a real GIS program like QGIS] Look up all relevant docs before starting [Claude sometimes uses outdated stuff] Split everything into separate HTML/CSS/JS files [Claude tends to pile everything in index.html, which is hard to read] Use Optima font, base color #FEFAF6 [I just like this style] Let me test with a local server [it serves it on a simple server so you can nav your host to localhost:8000 and try it out] Log all errors [so you don't have to play telephone with the LLM describing what's busted] 3) Once your LLM finishes, test it out in your browser; if it doesn't work, ask the LLM to check logs. Repeat 'til functional. 4) After this works on your computer, you can show it to everyone by hosting it on GitHub: prompt with "write a README explaining what everything does, add it to a new GitHub repo, deploy using GitHub pages, gimme the live URL" Here's what Claude made for me, try it yourself: • Upload the JPG in the repo, which is linked below • "Add GCP" • Click somewhere recognizable on the old map, like the tip of an island or a road intersection • Click the matching point on the new map • Repeat til you have least 3x points • Hit "georeference" • You'll see the old map atop the new map; if you want a better fit, delete bad points or add a dozen new ones, hit georeference again, repeat Repo: Is this map robust? Human-maintainable? Elegant? Performant? Secure? No, but *your* personal web map need not be. It just needs to work for *your* narrow use case, because it’s *your* map.

Interesting times in the maps space, and its exciting there is so much buzz - maps are awesome :) My parents Rakesh and Rashmi Verma pioneered digital mapping in India in 1995, returning from the US after a successful career there with the passion and desire to do something unique for India. And it’s been 20 years for me personally in the mapping space, since I was a 19-year old Stanford engineering undergraduate student and got involved in starting India’s first interactive mapping portal, I realise MapmyIndia is a relatively lesser known company amidst more consumer facing global and local players, so it would be great if this post can be amplified, so that more people can be made aware 🙏 Warm regards, Rohan Verma CEO & ED, MapmyIndia *** A few thoughts on maps: 1) Accuracy and quality of maps is critical. I’d caution folks to check out quality and reliability of maps by browsing those maps in areas familiar to them, and if they notice errors in them, in terms of incorrect places marked wrongly on the map, it should serve as a reminder not to rely on such maps. I’ve personally looked at the maps of various global and local players, and find so many inaccuracies, which confirms my belief that the difficult art and science of map-making is not as easy and people may imagine or claim. 2) What’s exciting about Mappls MapmyIndia, as a home-grown indigenous deep tech digital products and platforms company, is that not just did we pioneer digital mapping in India since 1995, when there were no other digital maps available for the country, but back then, and even now, we’ve always built the most cutting-edge tech to build the most capable maps and empower our customers, users and developers with the most comprehensive and advanced solutions. Over the last 15 or so years, there have actually been many global and local players who have come into the mapping market, yet for some reason or the other, they haven’t sustained or maintained quality. On our side we have continuously innovated in our products and tech - already bringing and making the most advanced featured available into our 4D HD maps covering 360 RealViews and 3D drone and digital twin based maps, immersive views and RealVerses - and focused on solving the needs of Indian consumers and enterprises, and served customers and users with humility, passion and consistency, with a solid and sustainable business model to ensure and provide a long-term reliable mapping solution for customers and the country. 3) Here’s an explainer video of our maps, tech & APIs which focus on how developers, users and customers can leverage our solutions to get their needs solved in the best way. Do watch - you’ll be pleasantly surprised and happy at the offering. 4) To try out as a developer for yourself, visit We’re glad that tens of thousands of developers, and their hundreds of millions of users, benefit from Mappls MapmyIndia Maps & APIs everyday, using both our free plans and our commercial plans. Do try for your own needs as a developer. 5) In one sense, the quality and capability of Mappls MapmyIndia is proven to be better and more useful and valuable through our free consumer Mappls MapmyIndia app (learn more and download from which has gotten love from millions of consumers who are able to navigate safer and better. Dina Zaazaa is a Grade 3 School Teacher for Abraar Elementary School Ottawa, ON. Abraar School is run by the Muslim Association of Canada Muslim Association of Canada (MAC). As a Grade 3 teacher who spends times with young children, we find it disturbing that Dina Zaazaa would create an IG story of the Bibas children in coffins being held by members of 4 terrorist factions who kidnapped them including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the PFLP, all of which are designated terrorist groups in Canada. Why would an Elementary School teacher post such a grotesque display? Is this what she is teaching her students as acceptable in a Muslim school? Do other teachers share this same ideology of dead Jewish kidnapped children being paraded by terrorists? This is not a one off as Dina Zaazaa created a post with the text “Glory to the martyrs” and “Glory to the resistance”, a glorification of Hamas. This correlates to her posts of other Hamas propaganda videos of hostages being released with armed men on full display. Dina Zaaza claims that “punishment” is coming and that we need to be patient. She also posted a separate video where she claims she was leaving the battlefield of Ottawa for a few weeks last summer to another “battle” while acknowledging her “comrades.” Where did Dina Zaazaa go to fight another battle? Dina Zaazaa is a frequent in the Ottawa protest circuit, who was seen at one point calling for the cancellation of Halloween due to the war happening in Gaza. This is a Notice of Public Interest to parents who’s children attend Abraar Elementary School and may be under the education & care of Dina Zaazaa, along with the Jewish community of Ottawa regarding this radical individual who sympathizes with terrorist groups. All materials provided were obtained via publicly available sources and does not contain any forms of private media.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse in Queensland, school parents have been unpleasantly surprised by the government suddenly allowing schools to switch to a four-day week from 2024. At a time when Australian school education outcomes are falling against international benchmarks, and when teachers are leaving the sector in droves, the last thing we should do is shorten the school week. Australia fell from 14th to 19th in the 2023 rankings published by the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment, or PISA, with China and Singapore at the top. Our school kids are two years behind their China and Singapore counterparts on science and maths. And back in 2017, UNICEF ranked Australian school education outcomes 39th out of 41 high-to-middle income countries. We’re in the fifth year of the Gonski 2.0 reforms, a commitment to more than 300 billion dollars in additional spending for education. Yet our standards and outcomes keep falling. Maybe if our schools stopped frightening kids about climate change, or making five-year-olds write apologies for the British settlement of Australia, we’d have better outcomes. Teachers are leaving in droves because of undisciplined classrooms and heavy workloads. In addition to delivering a poor curriculum, they’re taking on the roles of parents, counsellors and babysitters without adequate training or support. Cutting school hours in Queensland will only further dumb down our children. Over the decades we’ve allowed schools to become childcare centres and institutions pushing political agendas instead of real education and useful life skills. What hope do we have for the future? One Nation will fight this change at the Queensland state election, getting back to the basics that are the best foundation for a good education.

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs is observing #WomensHistoryMonth throughout March by sharing videos each Wednesday highlighting time spent in different Knox County Schools Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) classrooms taught by female teachers. Today’s video features a visit with Gibbs Middle School art teacher Dorothy Verbick and STEM teacher Lauren Downs who collaborate often, allowing their students more opportunities to learn and create using traditional methods and emerging technologies. “Even for kids who may not be inclined to technology, when you show them, art is a part of it, I think it really opens up a different world for them,” said Mayor Jacobs. Downs taught math 6 years before achieving a master’s degree in educational technology and media and has dedicated the last 5 years to STEM education. “I like that my students see me in a STEM role as a female. If they’re a girl or a boy, if you have that STEM background, it’s going to let you do more in the future. I don’t personally feel you can have engineering and design without art and creativity,” said Downs. Verbick is a dedicated artist with 12 years of teaching experience and holds a bachelor’s in fine arts with a master’s in teaching. Through a creative STEM partnership, Verbick and Downs work on numerous projects highlighting the intersection of art and technology. “Art teaches creative thinking and problem solving. In every aspect we do there is art. From design and the idea of design thinking to science and engineering, prototyping and things like that. We do a lot of that in our classes,” said Verbick. Mayor Jacobs said celebrating women in STEAM is important for young girls because it shows them that women can succeed in technical fields—industry typically driven by men. The Mayor has already shared his visits with South Doyle High School STEM teacher Kathleen Devinney, Hardin Valley Elementary STEM Educators Jessica Everitt and Jana Yra, and West Valley Middle science teacher Bethany Saunders. Next week, he will share visit with Karns Middle School Math Teacher Rebecca Layton. Background: Women’s History Month became a national celebration when congress requested President Ronald Reagan to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982, as Women’s History Week. Petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress designated the month of March 1987 as Women’s History Month. In 1995, it became an annual recognition. STEM classes aim to equip students with the skills and knowledge to compete in a global economy across science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines. STEAM classes do the same while also emphasizing soft skills and the arts including humanities, language arts, dance, drama, music, visual art, design, new media, and more. Research shows the number of roles requiring STEM expertise is growing at a rate that exceeds current workforce. Additionally, a 2019 LinkedIn report found that skills like creativity, persuasion, and collaboration are some of the most important to companies seeking prospective employees.

It's here! All power assets are now live on my GB Renewables Map ⚡ That's right, it's not just wind farms any more. Now you can see live and historic data for gas power plants, nuclear, grid batteries, biomass, pumped hydro and even a bit of solar. Wind farms are still the default for now, though you can enable as many or as few of the other fuel types and your selection will be remembered when you come back to the website. It's already live so go play for yourself here: There are numerous other updates as well: ⛔ Click the plug button to see a curtailment view, now including turn-up and a better visual representation of turn-down and turn-up actions ℹ️ Tooltips include loads more detail about fuel type and balancing actions ☢️ Each fuel type can be toggled using the map buttons 🧠 Map state is remembered when you reload or revisit the website ✨ Lots of new and under construction power assets are now on the map ↕️ Summary of balancing actions at the top of the map 🚦 Grid boundaries and constraints shown using a traffic light system And I'm only getting started! This update was the original goal of creating the map a few years ago. Now it's here I can shift focus to all the other ideas I have for it… Oh, and there's a new feedback button at the top. Please use it to let me know of any issues you find (there will be plenty) or suggestions to help improve this resource for everyone else. I'd also like to thank you for all the support and encouragement as I build this free resource in my free time (yup, this isn't my job). Honestly, it's been an incredible motivator and the discussions over the years have taught me a huge amount that has only made the map better for everyone. Until the next update!

As Zimbabwe concentrates on and hurtles towards two-year term extensions for President Mnangagwa and his Parliamentarians, Chikwanda Governmemt Primary School, just 45km from the glitter of Masvingo City has 136 pupils and 4 teachers sharing a one squat hole toilet. The bushes around the school are littered with human waste. This kind of squalor is not uncommon in Zimbabwe schools but the irony is that Chikwanda Primary is not only housed on the same place with one of Zanu PF’s most powerful politicians, Lovemore Matuke’s company but dozens of Matuke’s workers are exacerbating the problem by lining up to use the same one toilet. Matuke runs a brick moulding company, Sando, a stone throw away from the school. Parents complained bitterly about adults, particularly men using school toilets. They also questioned Matuke as a Cabinet Minister for having that kind of situation happening under his watch and doing nothing about it. Matuke refused to comment. The buildings at the school, a homestead of a former white commercial farmer are dilapidated posing serious safety risk for children. There is no accommodation for teachers, forcing them to commute from Masvingo at a cost of US$4 per trip. Student teachers attached to the school share accommodation with vegetable vendors who sell their wares at Roy-Zaka turnoff. One teacher at the school takes at least three different classes i.e.; the teacher for ECD A is the same for ECD B and Grade 1 and all three classes are taught from one room. Education analysts said the arrangement where a teacher takes those three classes concurrently is a disaster for the kids’ education. See full story on.......... Great analysis from Sam Bamford in this clip highlighting how Labor does use immigration to harvest votes and that the ABC openly acknowledges this. Mass migration doesn't just put pressure on Infrastructure and essential services. Albanese and the Labor party are clearly selling Australia for votes. Another shameful example of how it's anything but Australia First when it comes to Labor. As the respected business journal Macrobusiness points out, Albanese is recognising subpar job qualifications from migrants in particular Indians, when it comes to work visas and quote: 👇 "The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited India last month to sign a with counterpart Narendra Modi to expand work rights and immigration for Indians to Australia. Under the Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, “Indian qualifications will be recognised in Australia”. This agreement, which was clearly drafted by India requires Australia to recognise all Indian: •Senior secondary education qualifications awarded by a relevant board or council of senior secondary education or awarded by any other authority empowered by the Government of India. •Technical and vocational education and training qualifications awarded by institutions approved by the All-lndia Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and/ or National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and/or its equivalent body and State Councils for Vocational Training (SCVT). •Higher education qualifications awarded by institutions authorised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All-lndia Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), as well as other equivalent bodies. In summary, graduates from Indian tertiary institutions will now be allowed to work in Australia on the same terms as local graduates. India’s tertiary education system is far inferior to Australia’s, with their best university ranked at a lowly 415th in the world. India is renowned for churning out degree shovelware and fake qualifications whose holders will now be able to work in Australia under this mutual recognition agreement. This week, Bloomberg published an alarming report on India’s “worthless college degrees” that serves as a harbinger of what is in store for Australia under Anthony Albanese’s mutual recognition agreement with India."
