Here's the difference a good coach can make Age 53: 335 lbs for 1 shaky rep, needed a belt, dropped the bar Age 54: 335 lbs x 5 solid reps, returning bar to ground each time, no belt The older I get, the more I appreciate leveraging the wisdom... show more

There is no functional purpose to this besides fucking up your back

You're going to get a hiatal hernia. Stick to yoga and swimming.

fantastic work! persistence and hard work always win.

I recently found you and your podcast after getting into precious metals June 2024 and following others in the PM space. Your podcast is great—I really appreciate your attention to detail. To see you also posting about health and strength is icing on the cake. Keep up the strong work! 💪🏻

If you were lifting gold, you would be lifting $20,000,000.00 worth of gold. Twenty MILLION.

This janitor seems to know a thing or two …

WOW - that's real progress!

There is a heavy metaphor in there somewhere... 😊

Good job!

Beast!

awesome progress! Don’t listen to the deadlift haters. Consistency, form, and incremental progression. FWIW, I like to drop hips lower, push chest up, and tension bar at the bottom.

Proper form is more important than big weights.

That's exactly what a good coach focuses on: proper form

The exercise in the video looks more like a stiff-legged deadlift than a conventional deadlift.

You're thinking of a Romanian deadlift These definitely are not that

just do reps with 135 you are joints are not at an age to take stress, think longevity of your hip joints (your trainer is young trust me)

To my untrained eye the new form looks a lot better

Very inspirational. I will lift my 405 on my 50th birthday again... 30 pounds to go. But honestly: Its getting hard...

If I appear tall, a wise man once said, it is because I stand on the shoulders of giants. I had some shoulder issues a year ago. A smart, sensible chiropractor (who happens also to be a decent guy) helped me get through them. Your body has the capacity to heal itself, he told me. It will if we help it along.

I'm sure we all agree, that's why we watch and listen to your interviews.

You should have yeld out, I love silver on that pump.. lol

265lb Adam. 2 years younger than you. Need to catch up!

You got this!

What are your thoughts on statements that in your 50s you should switch out squats and deadlifts to other exercises that are less prone to injuries.

Disagree They are foundational body movements. And at 50, you still have plenty of strength left. As we age, we can get away less with bad form, so focus on getting that dialed in.

Night and day difference. You look like you’re in real discomfort and lifting unevenly doing the 1x. Did you have to psych yourself up to do the 5x or was that you being much more confident? Outstanding work either way, sir.

Much more confident on the 5x

Congrats young man! I can say that. I am 69 years old.

Dude, you are an inspiration. Keep it up. Hopefully I can do the same when I turn 54. Injured myself a couple of months ago, waiting to heal before I can start again.

Nice job. From my experience, consider doing one set of lighter weight for 8-12 reps. If you can do +8 reps add 10 lbs. That’s how I got to >405 lbs. From there I had to switch to 3-5 rep sets to get 495. Just a thought. Keep it up.

Wear the belt Adam- takes just 1 time for your back and/ or balls- :)

Are you training for a power lifting meet?

Outstanding! Tell Lance Roberts to bring it on now. lol.

Goku didnt stop at Super Saiyan. KEEP GOIN!

My back hurts watching this. Still seems like your form isn't great, use your legs more

Do you know the physics of your spine? Not a good idea.

Great.

Congrats! You’re a beast. If I may though…increasing your hip and hamstring flexibility would add many lbs. Too much back, not enough legs. 🍻.

Spine expert here... I take care of individuals who herniate discs with this activity. While, the spine and musculoskeletal system can tolerate this type of activity in our youth, as we age we accumulate micro-injuries. One day things just give out and discs herniate.

@grok would you recommended deadlifting 335lbs for 5 reps at 54 years of age for a male?
