Folks, here's another little design exercise that I spent the last few hours on 👍 This is based on a thesis I had for basically a decade now: Aiming in FPS games with the right analog stick is quite bad. Your thumb has maybe 1cm of travel on a tiny stick, fighting a spring, trying to make precise micro-adjustments AND fast 180-degree turns with the same input. If we're being honest, that's a terrible interface for the task. Your wrist, on the other hand, has roughly 180 degrees of rotational range, uses your entire forearm's muscle groups, and can make both ultra-precise micro-corrections and fast sweeping motions naturally. It's why mouse aiming destroys stick aiming: You're using your wrist and arm, not your thumb. So the thesis is simple: what if we just used wrist rotation directly as the aiming input? No VR headset, no special hardware. Just hold an old Switch1 Joy-Con in your right hand and rotate your wrist. Small rotations for precision tracking, larger rotations for fast turns. Recoil kicks the camera up and you instinctively tilt your hand back to compensate, etc. To me, it just feels right. I built a little prototype to test this. It has 4 weapons with some recoil, cover you can lean around, jump/crouch, lock-on targeting, ammo management, blablabla. The whole point is to see if this input method feels as good in practice as it does in theory. The aiming algorithm handles all the shitty stuff: Dead zones against shaky hands, auto-clutching when you unwind your wrist, asymmetric sensitivity because human wrists rotate further inward than outward, response curves for precision at low speed without sacrificing fast flicks, etc. I made a quick video to show the prototype in action. And if you wanna try it yourself, I put a small zip file up here that contains the executable:

Read 100 paywalled research papers for free every month! You don't even need a university account to do this. Here's how to read paywalled papers on JSTOR for free: 1. Go to jstor(dot)org and click on "Register" in the top-right corner. You can register with your personal Google or Outlook account. Or, you can create a JSTOR account manually. 2. Once you've logged in to your JSTOR account, click on "Workspace" in the menu bar. Then click on "Create folder." Choose a name for your folder and click on "Create."Creating folders in Workspace is a great way to keep your papers organized. 3. Type in the keywords in the search bar to find relevant papers. JSTOR willl give you a list of papers. To read a paper for free, click on "Read online." You will see a preview of the paper. Scroll down a bit and click on "Read Online" again. 4. If you find the paper super-relevant to your project, click on "Save" on the top of the article. Choose the folder you just created in your Workspace and save the paper in it. How I’d get good FAST as a baseball player: First get in the gym and commit. 6 days a week: upper / lower / arms, repeat. 1 full rest day. Do this for 6 straight months minimum. Build strength, durability, and discipline. Second the baseball work has to be intentional. Hit 5–6x/week with a plan. Not just swinging… purposeful reps. Work with a coach who gives you structure, routine, and adjustments. Then put in the REAL work on your own. Extra swings. Extra reps. Extra time. This part matters: You are NOT going to develop at practice alone. High school, travel, even college practice isn’t enough. The jump happens in the hours nobody sees. Third fuel your body like an athlete. Eat enough protein to recover and build strength. Hydrate consistently. Add electrolytes. Recovery = performance. If your body breaks down, so does your progress. Fourth train your mind daily. Eruption - Van Halen - Violin Cover by Nina D My journey to learn Eruption began a few years ago, when I only had access to a 5-string fretless violin. I learned a small bit of it, and quickly realized that I would need to compromise the octave range, and the finger tapping in order to perform it. There are a few covers out there of violinists doing just that, and they are very impressive. Anyone who knows me, knows that I did not want to do that. I wanted to sound like Eddie. Thus began my journey with the 7-string fretted violin. Pretty much the entire reason for having this instrument custom-made (thanks Wood Violins crew!) was to see if I could play Eruption. At the time of purchase, I wasn’t even sure if it would be physically possible to do the finger tapping, even with the new instrument. Upon its arrival, my first task was to learn how to play the darn thing- it’s like a completely different instrument, the neck is huge, I am tiny, and the low strings are super thick. (I also had to buy a special bow to properly play it). If your bow arm falters by a millimeter, you will hit the surrounding strings. Once I had this part somewhat down, I knew I had to dive into the hardest part right away- to answer the question, “but will it tap?” I began with transcribing this beast of a solo into notation. If you play guitar, and you want to learn how to play pretty much anything, you can go to YouTube and find slow note for note tutorials on EXACTLY how to do so. This doesn’t exist for trying to translate guitar things to a violin. You’re on your own. I tried it out with my normal rig. Pretty much dead sound. Nothing happening but noise. I had a few ideas for specialty pedals. Since you can’t really go to the store and try pedals any more, I bought one, it didn’t work, shipped it back, bought a different one, didn’t work, shipped it back, etc. ad nauseam. Months went by. It seemed for every step forward I took in achieving this technique, I took two steps back with new problems. For months, my poor family listened to what sounded like a train wreck falling on top of a car wreck falling off the Empire State Building. Brody even said to me, “it ain’t gonna happen.” So I locked myself away until it did. I struggled and fought the limitations of the instrument. I had some hard practice days, but the best motivation for me is “it can’t be done.” It took a combination of newly learned left and right hand technique, played precisely, practiced slowly for clarity, FOREVER to even make the right sound. The spaces that you need to hit, quickly, on a fretted violin are much smaller than that of a guitar. I tweaked the effect chain and technique right up until the 11th hour on the very final day of doing this. One day near the end of it, I was practicing in the studio and Brody was taking a shower. When he got out, he said to me he thought I was playing the recording of Van Halen. That was my breakthrough day. I knew I was close. I haven’t worked this hard since my masters recital on classical violin. I’ve ripped up my fingers to shreds, they bled, they blistered. Eddie Van Halen was in a class all of his own. His sound, technique, rhythm, and musicality changed the game for all guitarists (and this electric violinist) that followed. I am a far better performer, a far better violinist, with a much larger range of abilities, thanks to the months (or years) I put into dissecting his style and taking the time to do this on a violin as close to how he did it (so effortlessly) on a guitar as possible. Eruption - Van Halen - Violin Cover by Nina D My journey to learn Eruption began a few years ago, when I only had access to a 5-string fretless violin. I learned a small bit of it, and quickly realized that I would need to compromise the octave range, and the finger tapping in order to perform it. There are a few covers out there of violinists doing just that, and they are very impressive. Anyone who knows me, knows that I did not want to do that. I wanted to sound like Eddie. Thus began my journey with the 7-string fretted violin. Pretty much the entire reason for having this instrument custom-made (thanks Wood Violins crew!) was to see if I could play Eruption. At the time of purchase, I wasn’t even sure if it would be physically possible to do the finger tapping, even with the new instrument. Upon its arrival, my first task was to learn how to play the darn thing- it’s like a completely different instrument, the neck is huge, I am tiny, and the low strings are super thick. (I also had to buy a special bow to properly play it). If your bow arm falters by a millimeter, you will hit the surrounding strings. Once I had this part somewhat down, I knew I had to dive into the hardest part right away- to answer the question, “but will it tap?” I began with transcribing this beast of a solo into notation. If you play guitar, and you want to learn how to play pretty much anything, you can go to YouTube and find slow note for note tutorials on EXACTLY how to do so. This doesn’t exist for trying to translate guitar things to a violin. You’re on your own. I tried it out with my normal rig. Pretty much dead sound. Nothing happening but noise. I had a few ideas for specialty pedals. These quick workouts are for people who want to improve their postures. The exercises target the weakened foundations pulling your body out of alignment. The sessions are short yet effective. Use the workouts to raise yourself to the next level before the new year starts. Instructions: - Do the exercises as a circuit, or one at a time if you find the circuit format too challenging. - Repeat the circuit or each exercise 3 to 4 times. - The sessions are light enough that you can done daily. Follow the sequence from Day 1 to Day 7 in order. - Ideally done at the start of your day or at the end. Day 1: Kneeling T-Spine Stretch (0:06) [ 10 reps/side ] - Start: Kneeling, one hand on the floor. - Slide your straight arm under your torso. - Reach as far forward as possible. - Keep your hips squared throughout the motion. PRONATOR TERES IN THE THROWING ARM The Pronator has 2 insertions on the inside of the elbow 1) To the Medial Epicondyle through the Common Flexor Tendon 2) To the medial portion of the Ulna (Deep) In 83% of arms, the Median Nerve Runs right between those two heads Due to throwers commonly having hypertrophied and toned up Pronators, this can become an issue with compression of the Median Nerve which runs down the forearm and into the thumb, index, and middle fingers When tight, it can limit Supination and Elbow extension With Pronation and Supination, it is important to test both Range of Motion and Strength in both the Elbow flexed and extended positions as this will affect the muscle lengths of each Trigger points here typically refer deep into the wrist and Anterior Forearm In chronically “tight” Pronators, check the opposing muscle groups (Supinator and Biceps) as you may find they are significantly restricted and essentially forcing the Pronator to “Drive with the E Brake on” with every contraction OR You may see excessive weakness that allows the Pronator to Bully it into living in the Pronated, shortened position This is a non exhaustive list of some quick nuggets in regards to the Pronator Teres as there are a ton of global and external issues that can play a huge factor here

An entire empire was overthrown over a two percent tax on a breakfast beverage. Look at what you tolerate now. You are taxed when you earn it. Taxed when you spend it. Taxed when you save it. Taxed when you invest it. And when you die, they tax whatever is left. That is not a system. That is a harvest. You commute in a car you paid sales tax to buy. You drive it on roads you were already taxed to build. You fill it with gas taxed by the gallon. When you sell that car, the next buyer pays sales tax on it again. The same car. Taxed every time it changes hands. You arrive at a job where your salary is cut before it ever touches your hands. If you work for yourself, you pay both sides. Two people on paper. Neither one keeps what they earned. Then you go home. Every bill you open has a government standing behind it with its hand out. You buy a house with money they already took their share of. Then they charge you property tax on it every year for the rest of your life. You want to renovate your own kitchen. You need a permit. You want to build a deck on your own land. You need a permit. You pay for the property. Then you pay for permission to use it. Stop paying property tax and they seize your home. Not because you missed a mortgage payment. Because you missed a payment to the government for the privilege of keeping what is already yours. You do not own your home. You rent it from the state. If you leave something behind for your children, they are taxed on what you were already taxed to earn. The same wealth. Taxed at every stage of your life. Then taxed one final time because you had the audacity to die. They found a way to monetize your absence. We are told this is the price of civilization. It is not. It is architecture. The most effective prison ever built is the one where the inmates believe they are free. They did not take your freedom. They priced you out of it. If you kept the full value of your labor, you would be free within years. Not decades. Years. The system cannot allow that. A machine built on consumption needs a consumer that never stops. You did not sign a social contract. You were assigned one. Now pay attention. They spent decades perfecting the extraction of your productivity. Now they are building the technology to replace you.
