How does someone start to make something like this? Any insight into how does the process look like or what tools are being used

To get specific it was using Autodesk Arnold for rendering and cinema 4d for the 3D. It took me about 4 months of manic learning before I realized I don't like spending that much time on the computer. So now I have a team working with me and the next vid is made with crayons. (literally)
