Hey After Effects users: Today I decided that everything on Motion Fun will be free from here on out. This means Petals (which I used to charge $39 for) is now free. Oh, and I've got a crap ton more tools in the works, coming soon. Also free.

I love it when ui is fun. The easy solution would have been to just show a bunch of buttons, but this seems like a joy to use.

Copied response to someone who asked that on reddit: There's truly so many reasons, the leading being giving back. Mograph folks have been so awesome and kind to me over the years, and I've made a decent living building tools for them (FreqReact & Atom). I was planning on making paid tools for Motion Fun, but the software industry is changing so fast thanks to LLM's, and we are trending towards all offline software being free in 10 years or less, so I'd rather get ahead of it. It's insane how fast I can build tools compared to how I used to. I mean, take FreqReact... I taught myself ExtendScript and labored over that thing for probably 2000 hours before releasing v1.0 8 years ago. Then put in another 3-5k hours maintaining and updating it over the years. Compare that to AEbar which is arguably 5 times more complicated, yet only took me ~20 hours of active work to get v1 out. And it's not "slop", plenty of people rely on it and I get next to zero bug reports. That was a bit of a tangent, but the point is, even since starting Motion Fun a few months ago, things have changed so much and I've been branching out away from Mograph. I could of course just abandon the Motion Fun project, but it's more fun making these little tools and giving them away, so I'll keep doing it until it stops being fun. Thanks for the question!

That's an interesting take - I think its still early, maybe people won't want to pay high prices for things they can vibe code but there's still value in not having to do that work and having someone who did it well give you the solution. I host a podcast about Creativity, AI..

I'm definitely early on it, mainly because like I said I'm branching out into other tools (agentic coding & productivity) so that's a bigger market and it allows me to give back to the mograph community. Really cool of you creating a podcast, thanks for the invite. I'm not one to chat about my work, I'll barely get through 5% of my ideas before I die so I'll have to pass so I can keep working haha
