Israel has not collaborated with the United States in a productive way for decades. It refused to sell Iron Dome batteries to the U.S. Army and has never committed boots on the ground in conflicts that it initiated. Amid growing concerns about the U.S.-Israel relationship, Congress is now attempting to advance NDAA Section 224, a measure that would create unprecedented military integration between the two countries. Granting Israel expanded access to American technology and requiring the U.S. military to incorporate Israeli defense systems into critical parts of its own supply chain, giving Israel significant leverage over America’s defense priorities and long-term military planning. We discuss this and more with Ben Freeman.

Massie: I think what’s even more concerning is, in the NDAA, Section 219, which is going to start commingling our military supply chains and technology with Israel’s. It doesn’t make sense to do that with a country of 10 million people. But they’ve got that in the NDAA. I’m told that’s not coming up this week, but we know it’s going to come up sometime—probably soon. So I’ve offered an amendment to strip Section 219—it was called Section 224—from that bill.

Foreign leaders don’t usually thank Congress for provisions they don’t consider important. Section 224 creates a “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative” focused on joint weapons development, data sharing, and deeper military coordination.
