The National Irrigation Commission manages irrigation water for farming. Rural Water Supply Limited builds community water systems to improve access in areas outside the utility network. Each organisation serves a specific purpose, and it is important that we understand those roles when discussing the future of Jamaica’s water sector.

🚨BIG DEVELOPMENT IN LAKSHADWEEP Union Minister for Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh visited Kavaratti, Lakshadweep, to review progress of India’s Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) powered desalination plant. This pioneering project uses the temperature difference between warm surface water and cold deep sea water to generate clean electricity and convert seawater into fresh drinking water for island communities.  The system will provide continuous renewable energy while producing potable water, reducing dependence on diesel and strengthening energy & water security for the islands. Once operational, India will join a small group of nations experimenting with OTEC technology, positioning the country at the forefront of ocean based renewable energy solutions.  A major step for India’s Blue Economy, island sustainability, and deep ocean technology leadership.

Today is a historic day. The industrial ecosystem of Vizag, and specifically the data centers, will get water from the Polavaram Left Main Canal. The people of Visakhapatnam need not have any apprehension about water availability. While all five proposed data centres together would require only around 5 TMC, the scheme we are implementing can deliver this and more. Today, we have commenced bringing Godavari water through the canal. With the completion of Polavaram, water will flow to Visakhapatnam by gravity, ensuring long-term water security. We will ensure that development and water security go hand in hand.
