Converting the infidels at Christmas markets across Europe. I worked for a global Christian organization for 15 years. We proselytized tens of thousands of Muslims across the Islamic world, but we were always driven by love, not by the supremacy of our religion. It was love for the person. We believed our message carried hope and redemption to the individual. In Islam, proselytization is about quantity and supremacy. It doesn’t matter what a person’s needs are; as long as they recite the shahada, that is what matters. When I was six years old, someone from my town was studying in Yugoslavia and married a Christian girl who converted. I remember how that felt like a triumph over the infidels. Proselytization in Islam is political, not spiritual.
