History has been made! Ghana has officially secured Geographical Indication (GI) status for Kente cloth, protecting it globally as a true Ghanaian heritage. This means only authentic Kente, woven in Ghana using traditional methods, can bear the name “Kente.” Just like Champagne must come from France, Kente now belongs,... legally and proudly, to Ghana. But behind this global victory stands the heartbeat of it all, Bonwire, the home of Kente. Generations of master weavers from this historic Asante town have turned threads into stories, patterns into pride, and craftsmanship into culture. Last year, Afroculture being the production house for Shattafest came with a bigger responsibility than ever before. We weren’t just there to film an event. We were tasked with documenting what was described as one of the largest gatherings of people in Ghana — 500,000 people. And it was anything but easy. We faced immense challenges — losing our drone, navigating intense pressure, fighting our way through the crowd, and pushing our equipment and team to their limits. But through it all, we kept shooting. Because we knew this wasn’t just another concert. We were documenting history. Every frame, every aerial shot, every moment captured became part of the visual record of a day that will forever live in Ghana’s history. The challenges were real. The pressure was intense. But the result was worth it. We etched that date into the history of Ghana through our visuals. This is what production means to us. We don’t just capture moments. So let’s support him in whatever way we can. Our country is at a crossroad now and so I don’t care if you’re NDC or you’re NPP. What we must focus on now as citizens of this country is the development of the country. If you’re indeed a Ghanaian who wishes well for Ghana, this is the time. This is the time to fold your sleeves and get your hands dirty. We’ve got a country to build. We’ve got a nation to set on the path of success not just for our generation but for those to come. Watching the Zambia 🇿🇲 – Ghana 🇬🇭 fugu banter, I realised it was never really about the cloth. What Ghana defended so strongly and with such unwavering confidence, was not just fashion, but heritage and a clear sense of who they are as a people. That reaction quietly exposes something about us too. Sometimes it feels like we either have not fully defined our own cultural identity, or we do not carry it with the same pride and certainty. Not because we lack history, but because we have not yet agreed on what binds us together beyond tribe, politics, geography etc. To our good people of Ghana 🇬🇭, please don’t take offense. This was just a friendly cultural appreciation. In many ways, it was a lesson in what it looks like when a nation truly knows itself. 🇬🇭🤝🇿🇲

In 1956, British Togoland's people voted on joining independent Ghana or remaining separate; 58% chose Ghana, forming the Volta Region on March 6, 1957. Many Ewe wanted to stay separate to reunite with family in French Togoland.That vote never fully settled. Calls for a separate Western Togoland still surface today. The Ewe people have a profound history in this region: their escape from tyrannical rule in Notsie is commemorated annually at the Hogbetsotso Festival. This celebration also recognizes their unique kente tradition, Agbamevo, which has been woven along the Volta River since the 17th century. Africa's borders were established during the colonial era by European powers. The continent's future direction and identity are still being determined by its people.

With a heart weighed down by sorrow, I have received official confirmation from the family of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, confirming the passing of our beloved Daddy Lumba. This is more than a personal loss; it’s an irreplaceable wound to the very soul of Ghana. He was the voice of the Ghanaian story. In our moments of joy, his music lifted us. In our seasons of pain, his songs wept with us, giving words to emotions we couldn’t express. He gifted our beloved party the NPP an anthem of hope, yet always remained a son of Ghana first. Something is seriously going on in Ghana, but many people have not yet realized the potential danger. A section of Muslims and some Imams are increasingly embracing or promoting Wahhabist teachings, and this development deserves serious attention from our security and intelligence agencies. I am not saying that every Muslim or every Imam subscribes to this ideology. Ghana has millions of peaceful Muslims who have lived with other religious communities for generations. My concern is specifically about the spread of extremist interpretations that can promote intolerance, hatred, violence or rejection of Ghana's constitutional order. If we fail to identify and address genuine signs of violent extremism early, Ghana could face serious security challenges in the years ahead. We must not wait until we experience the kind of insurgency and terrorism that has devastated parts of Northern Nigeria before taking preventive action. This is a national-security warning, not an attack on an entire religion. Ghana must investigate extremist activities, strengthen intelligence gathering, enforce the law without fear or favour, and protect the peace we have enjoyed for generations. The campaign has ended, but the mission remains. We must wrest control of our country away from the corporations and back into the hands of people. And the only force capable of doing that is a movement of people unlike any we have seen in generations. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported this campaign, to all the young people who got involved in politics for the first time through this campaign, and I hope you will stay in this fight with me.

On our second day in India, our delegation travelled by road to visit the Taj Mahal, a journey that was truly worth every moment. As the Taj Mahal came into view, you could hear the collective “wow” from our delegation, a moment that captured just how breathtaking the experience truly was. Standing before one of the Seven Wonders of the World, we were all struck by its beauty, history, and the remarkable craftsmanship that has endured through generations. We also had the opportunity to visit the nearby village, home to descendants of the original builders, who continue to care for and preserve the site today. It was a powerful reminder of how heritage is passed down, protected with pride, and kept alive through responsibility and stewardship. My sincere thanks to our tour guides for thoughtfully bringing this history to life and enriching the experience for us all.
