History has been made! Ghana has officially secured Geographical Indication (GI) status for Kente cloth, protecting it globally as a true Ghanaian heritage. This means only authentic Kente, woven in Ghana using traditional methods, can bear the name “Kente.” Just like Champagne must come from France, Kente now belongs,... show more

@DAWNCommission @swdcgov @DapoAbiodunCON @OndoStateOnline @oyostategovt Do something like this for Ofi, Fila and Adire? Protect our heritage. Protect our culture.

Congratulations again Ghana. Nigeria, let's take an example 😊

Thank you. I wish you all the best 🙏

Now y’all should make a significant investment in the Bonwire community.

Kente or “k3t3” is a Ewe invention. Know this and know peace.

Well done to you and the great folks of Bonwire.🫡🫡🫡 As we felicitate with you, we also hope that someday, the Yorubas will similarly get recognition for Aso Ofi, Adire and Aso Oke. Good one for Ghana and Kente. 🥳🥂🥂

The funny thing is the people at Bonwire will refer you to Kpetoe for the authentic Kente. Even the one the Head there is wearing is from Volta. 🥰

The fact remains that Kente or Kete is from the Volta Region.

Bonwire, the home of Kente......yet the town is stuck in the 80s. 'Atta-Kwame' dan nkoaaa

When was the last time you visited Bonwire?

The Ashantis are probably the originators of the beautiful distinctive “Gold threaded cloths” called “Kente” not the originators of the entire cloth weaving process. Northerners use the same weaving process for their “Smocks”, the Ewes as well do same

Some criminals from the Eastern part of Nigeria, claimed their forefathers & their people are the owners of Kente and they weave it in the East. We know they are culture thieves. Nothing they lay claims to is theirs. Make sure you keep an eye on them. Congratulations.

@ThinkYoruba_1st @AKakanfo @EbiriGbonka how can we also do this to protect Yoruba cloth ans culture. Where do we go to also get the GI. Can thinkyorubafirst work on this.

@BTLizle come and see something nice

Ridiculous and laughable claims! Kete cloth is Ewe heritage with empirical evidence tracing back to our forefathers' migration from the Nile Valley. You've adopted Kete dance from the people of Kete Krachi, yet you claim ownership and pride yourselves as its custodians

Is good you mentioned Kete. Because we are talking about Kente cloth. Stick to your “kete” and let's stick to our Kente. Is that difficult?

Now, this should impact and reflect the livelihood of the people in Bonwire.👍

I build a website n used the kente style and patterns

Asanteman to the world 🌍

Bonwire, the home of kente? Well, those in Adanwomase are also claiming they're the owners of the revered kente cloth

Hmm. I thought Kente originated from Volta ohhh, from the word "Kete". Are we twisting history?

What does Kente mean? Please give credit to those who created it. Akans made it popular but you are not the originators of this fabric. Let's tell history the right way. No need to glaze yourselves when you know it ain't so.

Lol Market a fallacy consistently and it'll become the truth We all know here Kente originates from bur let's carry on with this one

🥂🤣

Cc @OYSGTourism for Aso-Oke, thank you xx

Fr

We need the Otumfour Kente Awards. Desperately in Kumasi

This is great news !

Agbozume isn’t the home of kente?

Beautiful 👏🏾

Piawwww 🔥🟡⚫🟢

Congrats on the GI status! ✨ Use traditional suppliers for authentically woven Kente. The quality is on point! Let's share more tips!

#Word -Its Rhema Everyday #fyp

Dey play Congratulations Ghana on this massive win

Big Question How & Why is Kente making a Male dominated field @grok
