History is made: Fine structure mystery solved? /🧵 UPDATE: My model may have solved an outstanding question in physics: the origin of the fine structure constant. I found a robust source and it works even with some tuning within -3% to 7% over a massive range of non-linear fields.... What is the fine structure constant? Watch the video below and you'll find out. Essentially its a mysterious constant that occurs in atomic and subatomic physics that has no unit. Countless people have tried to find a reason for it, and most have turned to numerology. I did something that only could work in this age of LLMs and someone who is a motivated expert in the field. Did a massive paper search, found the material in 10 minutes, aligned everything, then had it double check for me. Note that I wasn't looking for it. It occurred to me by accident when I was developing my bilinear principle of electromagnetic interaction. Within an hour, I had a value for it. My idea was simple: apply my non-linear soliton model to the electron in a way that makes my current x current interaction make sense not just at the atomic level but the subatomic level. Look at E = mc^2. It's the same as E = (sqrt(m) c)(sqrt(m) c). If sqrt(m) could be scaled to a charge, then you could interpret it as two scaled currents multiplying against each other. This is almost identical to the equation for the energy contained within an inductor L with a current I running through it: E = 0.5 L I^2. So far, sketchy right? Here's the thing, vortexes are solitons and they can exist in superfluids -- they even have quantised "Noether charge". They acquire a mass from their vorticity, have an energy associated with them and can move at any speed inside the medium with a different speed. Exactly like electrons! So my idea was to map the electron exactly to these vortices. If I could predict the mass of the electron, I could actually finally connect mass to electromagentism properly (Planck's argument is elegant but indirect). I used dimensional analysis to do this. It took a few tries to get it right and I had it checked by 10 different instances of the highest powered LLMs. With this first order approximation I got within 1/4th of the mass. It was almost exactly 1/4th... so I realised, I had to use a double cover to make it like SU(2). After another half an hour of research, I felt confident in using something like Dirac's scissor to do it. A kind of knot within the electron. It got me within 1.2% of the mass of the electron... but there was a problem, the mass of the electron occurred on the other side of the equation. I cringed at myself. Such an amateur mistake, I thought. But the LLM (Opus 4.5) actually corrected me and told me I had just accidentally derived the fine structure constant. Why? Because the mass terms cancelled out, or if one prefers, leave behind a correction ratio. Set that correction ratio and you get a function that implicitly defines the fine structure constant through two "parameters": 1. The actual geometry of the soliton/vortex. 2. The non-linearity of the medium and how it changed the vortex core. I went back and found an equation from friggin' Lord Kelvin, derived in the Victorian era. I then found an analysis from 1970 on the Non-linear Schrodinger Equation (NLSE) applied to exactly this domain but for a larger scale soliton in superfluids -- it didn't matter though because a superfluid and the medium of space are scale free as I had proven in the superconduction part of my paper. In any case plugging these two approximation in got me within 1.2% of the fine structure constant by solving the following implicit equation: 1 = 8 * pi * alpha (Log_e(8/alpha) - alpha_core) Where alpha_core is 1.615 in the NLSE. The most incredible thing? It was a ROBUST value for thin ring vortices. Even if you adjusted the alpha_core from 1.5-2, the values for the fine structure constant only changed between -3% to +7%. I cannot emphasise how incredible this result is -- it means that the actual non-linear equation and the other candidate geometries that reproduce SU(2) can actually get the exact value of the fine structure constant. I don't know of anyone who even approached this problem in this way without making ansatz or postulates. I'm still checking through the math in disbelief. If it's wrong it's going to be beautifully wrong. All LLMs I've ran it through agree with the math, just not the foundations which is expected due to their QED bias. This will be in chapter 11 of my paper. I've already sketched out the full derivation. This SIGNIFICANTLY strengthens an already game changing paper. I promise it'll be the last discovery I include and thank you for your patience. I wrote this full update out because of the significance of this development. Paul Sorvino, who played Paulie in Goodfellas, nearly backed out of the film two days before production. The self-described “softie” had spent months agonizing over the role, convinced he didn’t have what it took to play a mafia boss. He explains… “I didn’t think I could do it, because it was not the kind of role that I felt I really had an affinity for. The externals were easy: middle-aged Italian man. The difficulty was in the lethality that I felt I didn’t possess. And so even though I wanted to do it, I was sort of faking when I went to the meeting and giving Martin the impression that I knew exactly what to do with it - when I had no idea what to do with it. But I wanted so much to be in a Scorsese movie. I guess he just figured I was capable of it. It was about two months of preparation to try to get this quality that I knew it called for. I was kind of agonizing over it - I was thinking, “I’m gonna ruin this movie.” I was looking for something to get out of it till two days before we started production. By virtue of constantly searching to find that kind of quality that killers have, I was preparing to go out one night, passed by the mirror to check for spinach in the teeth, and I jumped back. I literally frightened myself. I saw a look in my eyes that frightened me. ‘Who was that?’ I said, ‘That’s Paulie.’ And once I found it, the role became just a duck in water. It just was so easy to do.”

STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

“This year you won Monaco, you won Silverstone, and you won the World Championship. What else is there left to do?” Lando: “I mean, they're really the best ones. Just downhill from here. I would have loved to make my life a bit easier and winning just earlier next time. But it's always more exciting when it kind of goes down to the final race, final few laps. It's more exciting for everyone, for you guys most of all. But I won ones that, again, people have dreamt of winning. There are some of the most incredible ones. The lap I did in Monaco in quali was the only other time, probably in the last 10 years, that I cried a little bit over something. Because there I proved myself wrong. It was one other moment this season that I proved myself wrong. Because I had that bad run of results. I just couldn't perform in qualifying. Qualifying has always been my strong suit, my best. Yeah, it's been my strength since I was in karting. All my qualifying results are my thing and they weren’t at the beginning of the season. So, when I went to the hardest track to do a qualifying lap in, I turned off my delta for the first time that weekend. So, I couldn't see if I was on a better lap, worse lap, whatever it was. It's not been my best track in the past. For me to then to go there and put that lap I put in at the end of qualifying was one of the best moments of my career in a way because it was the time I almost doubted myself the most ever. In the most important season that it turned out to be. So, but that one lap, 1 minute 9 seconds was all it needed for me to flip everything and turn that thought of ‘I just don't know if I got this’ to ‘oh, I can definitely do this.’ And that was a pivotal moment for me up here.”

🐹Even though the feeling of love is gone and.. I get confused every time I try to talk about it. Even though they suffer because of love, they just can't seem to let go of each other. Tbh, it's an emotion hard for me to understand so it was challenging (to be immersed into it) when I was singing the song. But this song was the easiest to listen to so it was stronly recommended as the title track. Actually, this wasn't the title track I originally had in mind. There was another song I was hoping to go with, but many people told me this one felt the most comfortable to listen to and was the most suitable for a title track. So I took another 2 or 3 days for me to really think it over and in the end, I realized this song felt the most naturally comfortable and I thought a lot of people would enjoy it. That's how we ended up choosing it as the title track, the reason behind the title selection. I think it deserved to be the title. That was right the decision. And I felt like booking the best hotel for her to sleep in, so I did. That day, she kept looking at the view from the hotel, and I saw her reaction. She said, “Mama has never slept in a hotel like this in my whole life. Mama has been working since the age of 14, performing Chinese opera to provide for the family. I never thought I’d have something like this. Never thought I’d have a beautiful home or get to ride in nice cars.” And it resonated with me, especially since Pa passed away. When Mama says things like that, (it is) true. What I had planned was just one (more) year until Pa and Ma could retire… (but) it was too late. Even if it was just one year or one day, it was too late. Success can wait for tomorrow, (but) if they are not there tomorrow, then it is too late. So, I felt like, “Hey, when can I make her happy?” To be honest, the new house that I built for her, where she can do this and that, is finished. The renovations are all done. The cats have moved in. (She?) has a role as the pillar of the house. So, I feel that the car… I had bought one before, but that time, I had to thank the fans. But this time, it came from (my own) hard work. I want it to be something that makes Mama happy. I know that I bought a car, and she can’t drive it, but I want her to see that I am starting… I want her to see that I have succeeded.

Might of found a way to use this mechanic in comp. I've seen people do this on the floor a couple times but not really on the wall in this way. I do think this could be used in comp because of the sharp change in trajectory of the ball and it could seriously bait out players. Not to mention it can be done on any part of the wall so even off the ceiling. I'm already getting fairly consistent at it on one side and I've practiced it for a day. It feels like doing the breezi flick for the first time but this could be a more practical mechanic. If it can be done on command consistently it has ridiculous potential for passes and other stuff Not saying this is a new mechanic btw nor is it guaranteed to become meta but I love the idea of seeing innovation and new things in the game because there isn't much of it these days so I hope people aren't closed minded about it. Would love to hear opinions on it

Hate to be that guy but it needs to be said. Tesla has not yet solved FSD and there is no guarantee it will be solved by June Don't misunderstand me, I'm not predicting it won't be ready. I'm simply reminding a specific group of people that seem to be operating under the assumption it's already a done deal If it was truly solved, we would have Unsupervised. Yes, it's incredible 99% of the time but cracking the code for the final 1% is excruciatingly difficult While we're on the subject - does FSD pull out in front of people and then take its good old time for anyone else? This is a behavior I'm really not a fan of and seems to happen regularly for me on 13.2.8 and 13.2.7 (AI4) We still don't have answers for sun glare - I watch an unhealthy amount of FSD videos and I still see this happening more than I'd like to Yes, snow is another story but initially this isn't really part of the rollout plan for TX and CA. Makes sense to solve for better conditions first Lane selection is still an issue where I'm at as you can see in this clip. Wish I would have had my camera ready for this but I was using FSD and the navigation just needed to go straight through the intersection. Instead, for no reason, it got into the left lane (left turn only) and stayed there. When I got the green arrow it just sat at the light (luckily no one was behind me so I stayed for a bit) and I eventually took over and just made the left turn You'd think basic things like this would be solved by now. Maybe it's the map data but even if it is, that's still a problem This will undoubtedly get misinterpreted and that's fine, but I've felt like some caution around Unsupervised would be healthy for certain pockets of the $TSLA community I'm still as confident as ever that Tesla will be the first to solve for generalized autonomy and I don't think it's close (especially in the US), but there's at least a non-zero percent chance it happens later than this June

I went to take a look and there was a baby kitten. So I went out to see and this tiny little kitten was standing in front of the food bowl. At the time, the rain wasn't heavy, so I figured it would manage to eat and get by and I just kept an eye on it. Suddenly, it started raining really heavily so I went home to grab an umbrella and came back out. I was crouching down and holding the umbrella over Cookie the whole time and they weren't running away. I think I stayed like that for about an hour or two? Then the rain got so heavy that I thought something bad might happen to it so I just ended up taking it with me. My mom scolded me a lot but I just couldn't leave it."

Claude and I got a live sodium atom simulation! lightcell energy 🔆 I've long wanted to be able to visualize what is really happening when a neutral sodium atom is excited in a flame or a bulb. Classical theory teaches that the single outer electron orbits the nucleus and full shells, and forms a dipole when this gets "wanged" but, physicists have long wondered, what does it look like when the electron gets wanged? is it like ringing a bell? i thought that this was the perfect time to really push what is capable of, in terms of building artifacts. grabbed zig to compile wasm and webgpu to make it super performant, and work with it for a bit and ran the REAL TIME-DEPENDENT Schrödinger equation on a 3D grid in a potential in the browser. and you can kick it! what!! it's soo beautiful... this is going on the website overhaul for sure here is the artifact. i don't endorse that it's exactly right, but i feel it is probably spiritually a good sodium simulation. it certainly rings my dipole!

Alejandro Amenábar on the non-linear structure of 'Open Your Eyes' (1997) & the challenges he faced because of it: "Interviewer: What did you want the puzzle structure of 'Open Your Eyes' to accomplish? Amenábar: That was something I had rejected in my short films, because I'm not very fond of jumps in time and flashbacks and flash-forwards. In this case, it was inevitable. I could have made the movie in a linear fashion, but I felt that would have resulted in three stories that were not integrated. So my co-writer Mateo Gil and I decided to mix them up so we could have the whole puzzle integrated. Then the task would be for the audience to put all the pieces together. But that wasn't really my style, playing with time. While I was shooting it, I decided that my next film would have the same kinds of questions for the audience to answer, but in a completely different form, with a very simple line through the narrative. Interviewer: How do you keep viewers disoriented while still holding their attention? Was that the big challenge of making a film like Open Your Eyes? Amenábar: Yes, but I don't know if I actually achieved it. [Laughs.] I know the film made a lot of money in Spain and struck a chord with a lot of young people. In 'Open Your Eyes', it wasn't as easy to play with suspense as it was in my other two films. I tried to create a hypnotic atmosphere in every single scene that would lead the audience through a deliberately confusing story. Also, the film is strongly tied to the main character's point of view. mc: during wlgyt, a poster with chungseob's back reveal and i ask staff who was that but they didn't answer me. they didn't tell us until the end even we ask who is the actor behind it but no answer, it is bcs it's was a spoiler that needs a tight security? seonho: the director talk to me during our last team dinner that they made something like an album or something "i didn't include chungseob because i was afraid it would be a spoiler," he said. mc: your first appearance was during the closet scene right? and i was like oh? i know that actor is let me find it later but still i didn't recognize you. seonho: back then, it took almost 4 hours each time just to get the makeup and styling done. they had to attach each strand of hair one by one. so we put an incredible amount of time and effort into it and in a way, i was actually happy that people didn't recognize me. mc: and during the time that you asked permission for marriage you made a cute scene like- jungie: abonim~ mc: i heard that there's a lot of adlibs. seonho: it was bcs the director instructed me where to where to walk as other actors need to be seen on camera angles, so ofc the actors need to be on angle and while having their scene i came in while thinking 'i need to be close to my father in law while smiling' and then i started to walk towards them so i did the slapstick to fill in the gaps.. just like we do during rehearsal and the good thing about this is we filmed when IU said the "omonim~" first and i remember it to clearly and do it the same.
