The Undercroft beneath the Lincoln Memorial and it’s a fascinating story that’s suddenly in the news because the public can finally see it. The Lincoln Memorial sits on what used to be swampy, marshy land (the Potomac Flats) that was reclaimed from the river through dredging and filling. When construction started in 1914, engineers knew the soft soil couldn’t support the massive marble structure and the huge statue of Lincoln without it sinking. Their solution was to excavate down roughly 40–50 feet and install about 120–122 massive concrete pillars (sometimes called piers or piles). These were driven all the way down to solid bedrock. The pillars support the entire weight of the memorial above. The huge open space they created underneath, a cavernous, roughly 50,000-square-foot structural chamber (nearly twice the size of the memorial itself) is called the Undercroft. For over 100 years this space stayed hidden from the public. It was basically a giant concrete forest of towering pillars holding everything up, with some original construction graffiti still visible on them and even stalactites from water seeping through over time. The National Park Service has turned part of it (about 15,000 square feet) into a new museum and exhibit space. You can now walk in and see the actual massive concrete supports that were put in because of the swampy ground, along with interactive exhibits about the engineering challenges, the memorial’s construction, and its powerful role in American history (including civil rights moments like Marian Anderson’s concert and MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech). It officially opens to the public on June 25, 2026, with timed-entry tickets required (free admission, small service fee for advance reservations). It’s already getting a lot of attention in the media as one of Washington’s “best-kept secrets” finally revealed.

🇹🇼 SPACEX JUST LAUNCHED TAIWAN’S FIRST HOME-BUILT SATELLITE SpaceX fired up its Falcon 9 rocket from California and gave Taiwan’s brand-new Formosat-8 satellite a ride to space. This isn’t just some shiny tech toy. It’s the first fully built-in-Taiwan satellite meant for serious business: watching Earth, tracking disasters, and showing the world that Taiwan’s space game is no joke. The satellite, named “Chi Po-lin” after a famous Taiwanese aerial photographer, is the first in a planned constellation of eight. It’ll orbit at 561 kilometers above the Earth and snap high-res images for everything from urban planning to spotting deforestation. And no, it’s not just science class stuff. This thing helps with disaster response, climate monitoring, and yes, national security. About 84% to 86% of the satellite was built using Taiwanese-made tech, a huge leap for a country trying to grow its space independence. Taiwan’s space agency (TASA) plans to launch a new Formosat satellite every year until 2031. When it’s done, Taiwan will have its own sky-eye network scanning Earth like a sci-fi movie come to life. While some countries still rent satellite time or import the tech, Taiwan is doing it DIY-style. This is not only about building cool hardware, it’s about making sure they’re not depending on anyone else when it comes to critical data from space. And props to SpaceX for being the go-to launch partner for countries that actually build their own satellites. The last "modern" game I ever played was World of Warcraft, from 2004 to 2010, the end of Wrath of the Lich King. I know there were MMORPGs before (and after), but when the original World of Warcraft launched in 2004, it felt closer to "perfection" than any game before or since. Nothing has changed that feeling to this day. What changed was the game itself after the death of Arthas in Wrath of the Lich King. The original WoW felt so vast, so open, and so alive - it’s hard to put into words. There was no min-maxing yet, no speedruns, no parsing records, no gear score requirements. If you were really "pro," you connected with friends or guildies via Ventrilo. There was no WeakAuras, no threat meters, no Questie guiding you. You quickly learned that even the most expensive vendor gear was trash compared to quest rewards. You had to walk from Elwynn Forest to the Redridge Mountains - and if you dared peek across the river into Duskwood, the spiders there would one-shot you (I’m sure we all did that). The first time you equipped a green item! The first time you swapped it for a blue! And the envy of seeing someone with purple gear, omg! Saving up for a mount and the catharsis when you could finally afford one! The first time you entered the Deadmines, the foolish solo attempt on Hogger only to realize instantly it was a death sentence, stepping into Alterac Valley battlegrounds and being in awe of its size, wiping on Ragnaros again and again before finally killing him, and the sheer joy of celebrating together with your guild. The excitement and awe of entering Naxxramas for the first time, struggling to down Patchwerk, the teamwork, the slow progress, seeing Sapphiron dead on the frozen ground and being moments away from Kel’Thuzad… so close! It truly felt like a massive world - not just in size, but in stories. The announcement of The Burning Crusade and the Dark Portal appearing in the Blasted Lands; you couldn’t wait to walk through it. Then the ultimate climax when Wrath of the Lich King launched, eventually facing the most badass character in gaming history: Arthas. World of Warcraft was magic. Until it wasn’t. Just like Blizzard was once the greatest game studio of all - until they weren’t. Warcraft used to be tough, glorious and epic... now it's pink Disney fluff. Nothing has recaptured that feeling from 2004 to 2010. I wonder if anything ever will again. I sometimes watch the trailer of the original WoW. It still hits close to the (gamer) heart…

Humbled to announce the successful firing of our single piece Agnite engine. Agnite engines power Agnibaan’s booster stage. These engine chambers are a full meter long, fully 3d printed as a single piece of hardware and made of Inconel. Agnite engines are driven by pumps that are controlled and operated by electric motors. Thanks to ISRO & IN-SPACe for their constant support and to IIT Madras for being our home turf from which this kind of technology is built. This Agnite engine was printed, depowdered and post processed in the same machines that we inaugurated as a part of our Large Format Additive Metal Manufacturing facility (LFAMM) towards the end of last year. This milestone is also significant for us because it completes one end-to-end cycle of design, manufacturing, assembly and testing of our larger engines, in-house. Amazing work by the team in pulling off a few world firsts here. - world’s first single piece engine of this size being fired - world’s largest inconel only engine - world’s only electric motor fed, semi cryo engine of this size and the list continues. However, this is not a race to be the world's first, it is a race to be the world's best & to be the world's most useful technology for launching small satellites to orbit. This comes right after firing a cluster of 3 semi cryogenic engines that happened last month.
