We know this kind of thing happens- it’s one of the very reasons I stopped being a the organ donor. In the event of an accident, having that designation on a DL could cause bad actors to limit lifesaving care. Being on a list of registered donors could, in the wrong hands, be used to target-those fears used to be considered ridiculous but knowing what we know now, it’s not worth the risk.

In 1999, I interviewed at UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) for an IT database job. There was a 6 person panel basically interrogating me on security and ethics. But the whole vibe was very dark. They were hiding something and worried about new hires having the keys to all the data.

Literally just had to renew my DL in Ohio and specifically asked to be removed from the organ donor list. The girl at the counter agreed with my decision and then told me DMV workers in Ohio are NOT allowed to ask if you want to change your status from donor to non-donor. She said they recently did a whole 2 hour training class on why they should NOT ask if you no longer want be a donor!

Sounds like the right move. This story about the guy waking up and showing showing signs of life and they kept going until it became impossible to ignore...suggests they have probably harvested organs from living people who weren't so lucky as to show so many signs of life.

Mother was elderly-put in a medical coma then brought out. Husband was badgered by repeated calls to harvest. Son states she was responding to things being spoken. She was then disconnected - team waiting outside then skinned her alive - because of her age that was all that was "Useful" This broke the Son mentally, he never recovered.
