Really the main thing is running Yaak's SQLite db layer in browser. Super cool that's it's possible now

@RichJDSmith wait can't ordinary JS do browser sqlite stuff natively already? I guess WASM would give you more control tho

@xlab_os Ya there's a hosted proxy running which everything goes through. Streams progress as it goes.

JavaScript, react native, webview mobile apps, electron, etc shouldn’t be used anymore for greenfield projects. Rust+trunk and especially crux make cross platform across web, desktop, mobile a much nicer experience

WASM is the future of web development. Much faster, more flexible but still needs a lot of work to push it to the limit from low level perspective...

Is this a Postman alternative?

the moment it clicks is usually seeing a real native codebase, an emulator, a database, ffmpeg, run at near-native speed in a tab with no install. wasm quietly turned the browser into a universal runtime. the demos still feel like magic because the constraint we all internalized just isn't there anymore.

Yepp it's awesome, built a fully local note taking web app yesterday with SQLite WASM

As far as I know, in WASM you won't be able to choose any folder on the disk to save files, only the downloads folder from chrome://settings/downloads.

I'm just saving in browser storage. Chrome is the only browser with a FS API and I'm pretty sure the user can select whatever folder they want, but I haven't tried yet.

Quick sharing between coworkers without having to install the app. Also might do api doc hosting, so this would basically integrate right into that

Honestly not terribly sure but it's something people have requested for a while and it forced some large architectural changes I've been wanting to do for a while
