This is what a computer assembly plant in 1970s Silicon Valley looked like. San Jose, 1978. Back when America actually built its own computers, IBM was doing it right here in San Jose. That campus is now a Lowe’s Home Improvement. Manufacturing operations continued there into the 1990s, including the assembly of large disk drives in clean-room facilities. Over time, IBM gradually moved manufacturing overseas, primarily to countries in Asia such as China, Malaysia, and Thailand. Key manufacturing buildings on the Cottle Road campus were closed by 1996. A few years later, IBM shifted its focus from manufacturing to research and development, and its current San Jose-area presence consists primarily of research labs rather than production facilities. Today, the former Cottle Road location is occupied by the Lowe’s Home Improvement store at 5550 Cottle Rd, San Jose. Look it up on Google Maps. The pitcher catches the ball near home, up the line a little bit and the runner bulldozes her over. But the little pitcher holds onto the ball. Runner is out! While the pitcher is down in pain, the following runner who reached third on the play decides she is going to try and score while the pitcher is hurt. But, the pitcher gets up and tags her out too! Two outs at home by the pitcher! I love tough kids! 💯 Do you think that first runner should have been ejected for running the pitcher over? Or do you think it was a clean, hard, play? Finally got around to watching the entirety of Roki Sasaki’s outing from yesterdays loss. Overall, not as bad as people are painting it out to be. A 6 inning quality start despite the home run ball and hard hit contact sprayed in, but this outing in particular marked a huge improvement. The dual action on his splitter was quite interesting to see, with it ranging from 86-92 mph on both variations (forkball ?). After the three-runs given up, you could see Sasaki’s body language settle in and feel comfortable, as he managed to retire the next 10 straight batters. 6 strong innings from Sasaki (without the help of the offense) but it could only be up from here.
