The Trump administration is reallocating federal dollars to tackle the root causes of homelessness like drug addiction and mental illness. This plan could cripple so called Housing First programs that do not require people to find jobs or enter drug treatment. Many of these understaffed facilities under Housing First also trigger the most 911 calls in cities, allow drug use behind closed doors, and attract an inordinate amount of crime to neighborhoods. California and WA are ranked in the top three for overall homelessness in the nation. But elected officials in these states are suing to keep the status quo. The County just doesn’t get it. Homelessness won’t be solved with temporary parking lots. It won’t be solved by throwing people into hotels. The real solution is tackling the root causes: drug and alcohol addiction and untreated mental illness. Until we address those, nothing will change.

Clearing encampments and reducing homelessness is not rocket science. We need to enforce the law and treat the root cause homelessness which is drug addiction and mental health. The only reason we have this problem in LA is due to corruption and politics as usual!

Under Tina Kotek’s leadership homelessness has increased by 35% statewide. Her outdated philosophy of housing first has resulted in billions spent on ineffective programs that fail to get people off our streets and into recovery and long-term sobriety. F#ck drug dealers and F#ck addiction. As many of you already know, I struggled with addiction for many years. As many of you know, I believe I eradicating drug addiction minimizes all of the rest of our issues. Human and child trafficking, sex trafficking, poverty, crime, homelessness, on and on and on.
