The County just doesn’t get it. Homelessness won’t be solved with temporary parking lots. It won’t be solved by throwing people into hotels. The real solution is tackling the root causes: drug and alcohol addiction and untreated mental illness. Until we address those, nothing will change.

We clearly need to shift the dial to prioritise helping the nearly 1m NEETs into work. This is a point I made last week in the in the House of Lords. It is a pity that the King’s Speech didn’t include legislation to address this – the crisis won’t be solved through tweaks alone.
