You aren't wrong but clearly they have a tell a lot because even when they do tell, general audiences have just become too stupid to pick up on extremely obvious symbolism and complain that they weren't spoon-fed the message

i agree but even then i still feel that it shouldn’t be an excuse for bad writing that’s honestly why i enjoyed the backrooms film, even though it’s def not perfect it still gives you plenty of shit to think about without spoon feeding you literally everything

Another favourite of mine is the whole "Treated like cartoons, not animated movies" with how bad Illumination’s Grinch was

you mfs couldn't even clock that Jax was a trans character until they had to spell it out for you, I do not want to hear it.

You guys don’t know what the “show do t tell criticism” means beyond “characters talk about things using dialogue because humans generally communicate with their mouth and vocal cords”

for me talking about their problems isn’t an issue by itself but it’s when almost every single time a character is feeling a negative emotion they fully explain every single little thing to the point where it genuinely does feel like spoon feeding

I know I say a shit ton of times, but the problem with a lot of these Indie cartoons is that the people creating them have the art skills but not the proper writing skills. They would really benefit if they hired an experienced writer.

@Argentenuem Gangle never explains her problems. She actively refuses to talk about it when given the chance.

Unrelated to the tweet itself but Where the Wild Things Are is genuinely one of the best and most beautiful children's films ever made

I have yet to see a scene from a glitch project that actually has this problem

Which ones? TADC never says Jax is trans or that Gangle tried to kill herself, Knights of Guinevere never actually tells you there's a disease going around or that Frankie had her teeth yanked out whenever she misbehaved. These details are shown with context clues.

In fairness to me I have aspergers and getting this kind of symbolism, metaphors etc I dont pick up on sadly it has to be explained to me otherwise I won't get it

I mean, they try to, it just becomes subtle foreshadowing that will eventually lead to something, which is at worst a bad therapy talk

They also somehow do this in reverse by keeping some cards too close to their chest that nobody could even know and it just feels like plot holes

I think Monkey Wrench is better about this. They let you really take in the world more and you can figure out things before they're explained if you're observant.

This was a 2013 episode of the Nostalgia Critic when the show was good and still is even after a controversy.

The scene is just the cookie dad eating a cookie that tastes bad and the cookie mom is there for him and they walk away together happy, it’s not only what Max wants, fir them to be happy together but also the dad not liking the cookie is from earlier, I don’t see any issue

I don't understand why people try to act nonchalant when they are fixated on some point

Doug turned out to be a rather one note character, but I always found his film analysis very good and insightful. Not sure if people give him the credit he deserves as an ACTUAL critic.

This clip sucks because I am a salty Sharkboy & Lavagirl defender. Who caaaaares if it’s redundant if it’s entertaining I don’t watch movies for stories nostalgia critic I watch movies to see things blow up and weird special effect creations

Part of the issue is that the people making shows like the therapy show have no intentions on making good art. They want to spread their ideology and vices and nothing else. They never thought about what makes something good, outside of what they feel is good.

Wasn’t shark boy and lava girl based nearly entirely on the creator’s son’s dreams? I’m not defending poor writing decisions since some plot points probably were added but still, these are dreams, they’re not supposed to be coherent
