It is that time of year when hornbills nest in the Anamalai Hills of Tamil Nadu, and the valleys reverberate with their deep calls and the powerful whoosh of their wings, sounding like a helicopter in flight. They are truly the icons of this landscape. It was truly magical for me to capture a Great Hornbill mother feeding her chick, an indication that the chick is nearing fledging and is almost ready to leave the nest. During nesting, the female seals herself inside a tree cavity, remaining there through incubation and early chick development, completely dependent on the male for food. As the chick grows the female eventually breaks out of the sealed nest. From this stage onward, both parents take part in feeding, signaling that the chick is in its final phase of growth before its first flight. In this fleeting moment you are struck by one of nature's most extraordinary stories ❤️🙌 #Hornbills #TNForest #wildlifeconservation #AnamalaiTigerReserve

Show me a more beautiful love story than this on #ValentinesDay. The male #Hornbill feeding the female, who has locked herself in nest to raise the kids. This he will do for few months, daily. Hornbills have partners for lifetime. When they are expecting they search for a cavity or old nest. After finding one, the female enters into the nest and seal from inside with whatever material is available. Now the time tests them. Male keep searching for food and keep bringing that to the nest. While female remains locked in the nest for next 3-4 months. As the kid is growing the male has to increase the frequency. With this he has to feed himself and also need to protect the nest from predators. If the male is poached on the way the family dies waiting in the nest. Isn’t it the loveliest love story !!

The egg belongs to an emu. Here's a video of it. Here in the video, it is the male that's brooding over the eggs. Once female emus lay eggs, they leave it to the male and start looking for another male. After mating, they lay eggs for that one to look after too. They keep doing this as much as they can till the mating season is over. It's the male that'll look after the eggs and the chicks when they hatch. The female only lays egg and move on. Tainkyu ✌🏾

BREAKING 🚨🚨 JACKIE AND SHADOWS EGGS ATTACKED ‼️‼️ #BigBear / #California A crow attacked the nest of Jackie and Shadow today around 330pm, as seen on the nest live stream camera. Both eagles were out of the nest at the time. The crow appeared to severely damage atleast 1 of the eggs. It appears that only 1 viable egg is left.

In a Historic move, Government of Tamil Nadu announces pioneering initiatives for Hornbill Conservation in the State Assembly today. TN Forest Department is set to enhance hornbill conservation efforts, marking a significant move in protecting these keystone bird species. The Great Hornbill, Malabar Grey-Hornbill, Malabar Pied-Hornbill and the Indian Grey-Hornbill crucial for forest ecosystems are under threat due to habitat loss. As part of this initiative, the state has announced 1. A Centre for Excellence to be set up for Hornbill Conservation at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. 2. Identify and protect nesting trees, including those on private lands, and recognize landowners as “Hornbill Protectors.” 3. Fun fact: When a Cuckoo finds a suitable host nest she removes one of their eggs and lays her own egg in its place. Then, when the Cuckoo chicks hatch they push the host eggs or babies out of the nest, allowing it to eat all food brought by their new mom. 🐣🪺🥞
