explained why housing the Homeless without any preparation or support is about the worst thing you can do. She called it cruel that the system does this. The HIC though has doubled down on this model and insists it’s effective. I vehemently disagree. Under the philosophy

of Housing First a person is not required to make any changes whatsoever in order to receive housing for life. This graphic explains the components of Housing First. I circled ‘Voluntary Personalized Services’ which translates to the client is not required to make

any changes that sent them to the streets or kept them on the streets. Services are completely voluntary. How many do you assume volunteer for services if it’s not tied to the requirements of the housing they were given?

“You can’t take someone that is free and put them in a cage”. I met a homeless man that does not believe in the housing first model. He said it is a money driven program that doesn’t help them the way they need to be helped. He said “it shows they don’t

understand us”. He believes and I agree you need to prepare a homeless person for housing to assure they will be successful.  I have hundreds of interviews directly from the Homeless

that have told me near identical things. Yet the HIC refuses to listen to them because if you end homelessness and they all lose their jobs.

@tarafaul503 Housing first doesn't work. Counseling, drug rehab, community engagement then housing is showing promise in our area.

@tarafaul503 And it uses our tax dollars failing to deliver any real therapeutic help along with encouraging lawlessness and enabling jobs of HIC w/o defined metrics.
