I have a few ponds and bird baths, all fresh water, I use large copper coins and the large pond has a copper “filter” you can buy at most pond stores. It’s basically a tube with copper that water flows through with a small charge. All work incredibly well but terrible for frogs.

In the old days, pools used to be made out of copper.

I've had my pool for 6 years. That's all I have of done. And in the beginning of the season, when I started up, I take a copper coil.And put it in a turkey pot hot water and heat the pool up that way. So it gets the copper and it warms the water in the pool in the first startup.

I'm lucky. I live off of well water thats full of minerals and All my water pipes in my home are copper. When I taste the city water it has an weird taste like something is missing from it.

I stripped some extra wire and put it in my coy pond. So far, not much of a difference. I put it near the intake to the filters as well. Maybe I will put some into the filter housing to see if it helps more. I think the biggest issue I have is my ducks though.

Think about all the new homes, switching from copper pipe to pex plastic pipe now and your hot water runs through plastic. Keep the copper in your homes if you can because it’s most likely killing bad bacteria while running through copper pipes.
