If you have to expand and sum, then use (10+1)^2 instead of (8+3)^2.

I am old skool math. My daughters came home with the " new math ". I have no clue how they do it. So I go to the skool and talk to the principal and their teachers. 2 + 2 = 4 what ever it was they taught my girls made it four times the work for the same correct results.
