ROSALÍA talks about what it was like to learn 13 languages to sing the songs on her new album “LUX”. “I speak a little Catalan because it’s my mother tongue. I speak a little Spanish and barely any English, but, you know… I love learning. I love learning things. So I wanted to learn different languages for a long time. I’ve been practicing on Duolingo, you know. But sometimes I’m like, ‘I need to do more.’ So while I was trying to figure out what the concept would be, because I was curious about learning from other cultures and how spirituality can be understood in many different places around the world in different ways, I was learning about different saints from all over the world. And I was reading, reading, reading so many hagiographies, hagiographies. Then I thought, ‘OK, let me put a map on the wall.’ Let me pin different stories, different women from around the world. And if I was making a song inspired by Joan of Arc, then I would do it in French. So depending on the story I wanted to reference, I would use one language or another. And then I would write about 20 different verse options and send them to a translator, a proper translator, get them back, tweak things, record, and then send them to people who would correct the pronunciation, all of it.”

For many Europeans visiting the U.S. for the World Cup, one of the most noticeable experiences is seeing the level of American patriotism. Flags, national pride, and support for the country are visible in many places, creating a unique atmosphere for visitors. Culture is expressed in different ways around the world, and seeing how people celebrate their country can be a powerful part of travel. For some visitors, it’s a new perspective on how national identity is shown in everyday life. The World Cup brings together more than just soccer fans, it brings together different traditions and ways of showing pride. What other small cultural differences do travelers discover when they visit a new country?

ROSALÍA talks about the saints who inspired her to sing in each language on her new album “LUX”. “And then, when I’m singing in French, for example, in Germany, there is inspiration from Joan of Arc. When I’m singing in Mandarin, there is inspiration from Sun Bu’er. When I’m singing in Hebrew, there is inspiration from Miriam. When I’m singing in Ukrainian, for Saint Olga of Kiev, there is inspiration from Saint Rose of Lima and Saint Teresa. I mean, the list is long: Rabia, Adawiya, this woman who was so significant in Sufism, etc. So I was thinking: why not use these languages to, in some way, channel a bit from there?”

I like learning about different religions and cultures from their respective leaders. From this Imam in California, I learned that Islam isn’t just a religion, it’s a complete political, ideological and social governance replacement system with the aim of world domination.

Why are American calling football soccer? Why does Americans football call in football? One of the funniest cultural differences in sports is the name of the game itself. Many people around the world call it football, while Americans call it soccer and use the word football for a completely different sport. The history behind the names shows how languages and traditions evolve in different places. What sounds confusing at first becomes an interesting example of how cultures create their own identities around sports. The beautiful game brings people together, even when the words are different. Why do you think the same sport can have two completely different names around the world?

🗣️ Martin Odegaard on whether Arsenal will be more direct this season: “I don’t know. I think it depends on the games, the opponent. I think we can play in so many different ways. “We can score in so many different ways, and I think that’s one of our strengths, that we’re so versatile.“We can adapt and create problems for any team in many different ways, and also defensively. “So yeah, just looking forward to getting going now and hopefully having a good season.”
