How do people foster dogs?

Bro, i just paid $7k in vet bills for my cat, and my rescue dog, Tsunami, i got after the alaska earthquake is still my bff.. you're my tribe. 🤣

we're a 4x foster "failure" but we know people that do it allllllllll the time.

I'm right there with ya, I don't have that kind of self-control either, 😂Bless those that foster and then give them up. But I do suppose it makes the foster parents happy to know the pupper or kitty is going to a good home and that they had part of that journey❤️

I have fostered over 15 dogs. I failed on the last one. My mindset going in is I am watching this dog for a friend I have not met. After meeting the potential family and seeing their home, Every on who wanted one of "my" dogs were people I could have been friends with.

😝. My son did this. He successfully fostered 2, ended up rehabbing and keeping 4 that were deemed too dangerous to adopt out. I’m very proud of the work he put into those dogs, even lost the tip of a finger to one of them and that dog turned into the biggest mush. Saying goodbye to those 2 were heartbreaking for us, our dogs and the fosters. Never again. Can’t do it.

I couldn’t do it either. They would all be mine.

Same with cats. That's how we got our last 2 cats and our last dog.

Fostering is just like test driving an animal for a lot of people. But sometimes it pays.

Exactly! That’s why I have a house rabbit rescue! Currently we have 11 bunnies! And now I’m in the business of rescuing cats because the neighbor doesn’t want to have them spayed or neutered so I’m ending up with them! And I get so attached that I can’t see straight!

I got my 'foster' dog when she was 6 months old. She's 12 years old now, and she's never left my side ♥️

A few years ago I wanted two chihuahuas. I went there to get my two chihuahuas , and they said we can't keep this one, so do you want her to? My daughter had a stray come up to her house and start having puppies.Only four puppies survived, guess where they live now

I think you have to have the mindset that you're assessing, training and socially immersing them for their forever home. I've done it countless times with feral kittens. I felt like the patron saint of wild kittens for a long while, LOL! You're kind of like a loving teacher, if that makes any sense.

Had 3 dobies and a German shepherd….right now….they all passed…..but if I go to the humane society…..I will not leave any dog I see behind…I won’t be able to sleep seeing their faces,knowing I left them….so as of right now….im dogless……

We saved a dog that we saw stranded. Our neighbor agreed to foster it. That lasted 3 days. Guess who has the dog now.

I have been a part of fostering over 100 dogs, even though most were good dogs, many I knew were not a good fit for me. Fostering also a better option than the alternative the dog living on the streets, in the shelter or worse.

Never fostered any, rescued a few, and I just dog sat my grand dog for a week. It was a long week. 😂😂 I’m the same though, I’d be hard pressed to just pass them on after they integrate into my pack.

My 9m old foster, who's ready for a new home. Rescued him @ 4m old. It's easier knowing there are SO many more dogs out there needing help. Sadly black dogs (&cats) have a harder time getting adopted. I've had only 1 rescue I couldn't let go, she was my heart dog. RIP Reni 💔

💯! I never thought I would love a dog until I owned one… Then to say goodbye would kill me. We had to put down our standard poodle after she went into anaphylactic shock from being stung by a bunch of hornets, almost 40 stingers found on her face and in her mouth. That was one of the hardest things I have had to do! But, they are our best friends for a part of our life, we are their best friend for all of theirs!

I fostered GSD‘s total of six. My contribution is the faster them to a home they were meant to be in. I already had two dogs so you help train them acclimate them so they can have a better life somewhere else. It was the greatest joy that I had that I could contribute.

I’m a 3 time foster fail but a 2 time foster success. I cried everytime I gave them up but I knows it was best for them,

Bro for me its any pet, a cat, bearded dragons what ever. How can you fall in love with something then give it up. Its mind boggling.

I feel the same way! I always adopt rescue animals, but I’d have hundreds if I fostered.
