I meet a pastor once who had an amazing philosophy. Once his church grew past a certain point, they planted a new church, rinse, repeat. He quickly recognized that churches need to be "small" and local.

Same pastor, same worship, same church. I disagree with Voddie, but everybody gets to have an opinion.

that's interesting, but what do you think of this?

I agree

While it may be an issue, the "church" has much, much larger issues to contend with!!!

I think what Bachum is getting at is one service tailored for the younger crowd (Christian pop music & hipster pastor) and one tailored for the older crowd (Hymnals and exegetical preaching). But even two identical services diminishes the communion of the saints.

Yep. Completely agree. Multiple services really are not one church.

I can tell you we went to a church with 1 service. When it went to 2 it changed things. Previously we were in church with my parents & kids. Then they split everyone’s Sunday school time so we didn’t get to attend service together anymore. The church we are contemplating attending soon is about to go to 2 services because it’s growing so fast. But I suspect they will be very intentional about gathering the church for meals together & other things.

The church is not a physical entity it is the Holy Spirit filled people of God sealed in Jesus Name the Body of Christ. People from all over this world before and after us.

I agree and the churches that have “traditional” and “modern” services is an example of people going to church to be entertained instead of worshiping as a body.

Semantics. Non-scriptural. The church is the body of Christ. Full stop. Whether you meet as ten in a one bedroom house or a thousand in a warehouse.. Jesus is the head of the Church.
