We loved animating young Noodle for this sequence! Nailing her performance was key. It’s really common for animators to film a real-life performance as a reference to capture the realism and mechanics required. We thought this was especially important when trying to depict Noodle as a young child. The way children carried themselves is very nuanced, and we really wanted to animate her in a believable way. Max, one of the directors, shot reference footage of his son playing on an obstacle course in his garden. Game devs, did you know you can use Unreal's Sequencer and rigging to edit animation from Mixamo, Fab, or the Unity Asset Store? Then you can import those animations into Unity, Godot, or Unreal! Animators, if you want to learn how to edit mocap, this is a great introduction. The workflow and concepts I show can be used in Blender and Maya. Full video on my YT.
