They work like this all over Europe, most commonly used on windows, but some doors too

It's the same all over Europe.

The insect prevalence in the US makes this generally useless. The US is more ecologically active than all of Europe combined.

They don't that in the USA? It's not just Germany, I have this in the Netherlands and had it in Poland too. Seems to be pretty standard in these parts in Europe.
