Jerry and I did everything that we could to try to keep it independent, but SEC rules forced the board to make a decision to have the company sold because Unilever offered so much money for it. Only the older generation will recognize this one. Beach-Head, published in 1983 by Access Software, is one of the tougher C64 games I have played back in the day. I was 8 or 9 when I first gave it a shot, so maybe that was part of the reason but even in my teenage years I still struggled to get to that final mega-bunker/fortress monstrosity at the end. Beach-Head was commercially successful, selling around quarter of a million copies, an excellent number for that era. Bruce Carver went on to also make Raid over Moscow one year later - another classic of 80s gaming history, and one that was equally hard (the hangar sequence still gives me PTSD). I think in terms of design and gameplay you can see how the 2 games are related, the vibe feels similar.

The Game Boy was launched in 1989, sold almost 120 million units, and was eventually discontinued in 2003 - an incredible lifespan for a handheld console, the longest ever, unless I am overlooking another? One of the games that was availabe with the launch was Super Mario Land, and it became one of its highest selling titles (18 million cartridges), being part of the early and massive success of the Game Boy. By the way, all this with a mere 8 KB of RAM. That's 1/8th of the good old C64. Super Mario Land was essentially a perfect game, getting the absolute maximum out of the Game Boy at the time. I remember that even my mother and sister playing it, while before that computers games were really not their thing at all.
