It was encouraging to see Oregon’s Supreme Court focused on the original intent of Oregon’s right to bear arms. This was a large improvement from the questions that were asked at the Court of Appeals level. “The people shall have the right to bear arms for the defence (sic) of themselves, and the State, but the Military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power[.]” Oregon Constitution Article I, Section 27.
