How long should dating be?

My wife and I dated only three months, then got married.. Still married. 40yrs now!! 😃

His advice ASSUMES that the other person is mature and honest enough to have those conversations. When someone is deceitful out who they are, I can tell you it takes a minimum of 2 years to know who the person really is. This man's advice is naive about the real world.

Agreed. Met in April, with numerous one month deployments, a month long each, we married by mid-December. I knew after the second date. Still going 40 years later. Decision, not emotion. The emotion comes after decision. Covenant, not a legal arrangement. Judges 11:35. A covenant with God cannot be withdrawn.

I tend to agree that people overthink this decision and take too long to "figure it out." But anyone promoting a particular timeline as "right" is doing so arbitrarily and to the detriment of people who find six months or a year more comfortable. Why not four months? Why not two? Why not a week? How about 247 days?

My father used to tell us do not date someone more than twice if you do no think they would make a great mother or father for your children. Amazing advice that is so true. So people just end us "stuck" with someone because they are comfortable and settled. Usually ends poorly.

Given the society we are in right now, deciding to spend forever with someone after just a few hours is irresponsible. You could meet them on their happy day or week not knowing that their crazy other dominant personality is suppressed for that period.

Such valuable advice, it’s a shame western culture doesn’t have this knowledge at its core. We believe that the past is archaic and wrong and that these post modern ideas is the way.

You both hav to live together at least that 3 months,without him or her knowing you want to make this exact decision within that time (minus how long it takes for it to finally happen)they will certainly show evry little sign for you to get that answer,minus the future outcome
