How many hours do teachers ACTUALLY work?👀

Teachers that also coach sports/athletic directors, etc or are in charge of other high hour extracurricular commitments that number often swells to 80-90 hours a week or so at times

Police and firefighters make time-and-a-half when they go beyond their contractual time. Teachers should too.

No lies detected. $15/hr is a relatively safe number too. Because when we factor in education, experience, and other roles that teachers take on, it really should be much higher.

Love this breakdown!! Also thank you for putting in that this does not mean we think other ppl in other professions aren’t deserving of being paid their worth! Huge misconception I feel is thrown around way too much

Teaching is a 24 hour a day job and you can do any amount less if you want. 😏

That year we all “took extended vacation” (2020-2021) I kept track of my hours. I regularly did 60+ trying to do basically 3 versions of class: the group who came 2 days, the group who came the other 2 days, and the remote group. Plus virtual day.

So true! Also most credentialed but least appreciated.

Great video but your hours in your calculations are too low. Every teacher I know works 2500-3000 hrs in 9.5 months. Also, valuing an educated professional such as a teacher at $15/hr is waaaaay too low.

I wrote about this for @WeAreTeachers a few years ago. At the time my math was correct for my district- but the day is longer now than when I wrote it!
