Discussed diplomatic efforts to bring an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine and Europe’s role in this process with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb Alexander Stubb. Transatlantic unity on the path to peace is essential. We coordinated our positions on the next steps. Importantly, during our meetings, partners note Ukraine is now in its strongest battlefield position over the past year and has become a reliable security provider in Europe and other regions. Our teams are already working on preparing a Drone Deal, and we expect a prompt result. Special attention was given to Ukraine’s European integration. A necessary window of opportunity has now emerged to open all six negotiation clusters. I thank Finland for its support of the PURL initiative, which is helping greatly protect lives in Ukraine, especially in light of massive Russian air strikes like the one we are seeing today. I am grateful for all of Finland’s support, and personally to Alex for his principled and consistent position on supporting Ukraine.

During a meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, I informed him about the negotiations aimed at achieving a just peace. We need a long-term ceasefire, reliable security, and lasting peace. We are also ready for the next round of trilateral meetings. We also discussed the Ukraine Recovery Conference, work on good-neighborly relations in the region, and contacts with partners. I am grateful to Poland for its support of Ukraine’s European integration. We hope for the opening of negotiation clusters for EU accession in the near future.

I met with Emmanuel Macron. We spoke primarily about security and the winter support package for Ukraine. We are also ready to secure additional SAMP/T air defense systems and missiles for them using the financial resources available through the EU loan. We continue working on the possibility of producing these air defense systems and missiles in Ukraine, as well as on the joint FREYJA anti-ballistic program with our partners. We expect to see the first results this year. We are doing everything we can to strengthen the protection of our people. Thank you, Emmanuel! Thank you, France!

I met with representatives of the American think tank Hudson Institute and informed them about the consequences of Russian strikes in recent days. In light of these attacks, it is particularly important to bolster Ukraine’s air defense, and we are grateful to the United States of America and to all caring Americans for their support of Ukraine, which we have felt throughout all the years of this full-scale Russian aggression. During the meeting, we discussed cooperation with the U.S. Congress, diplomatic work to achieve a dignified peace, and the importance of active U.S. participation in the negotiation process. We are counting on an end to the pause in the negotiations and the reinvigoration of diplomacy. This is important for saving the lives of our people and restoring security in Europe.

The front line, and the fight for freedom, now await them. Tomorrow marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The current blockages are purely political, and I am grateful to Germany for its support.
